Just wanted to get a new thread going for our season. Which should hopefully begin tomorrow. I also updated the website today, finally, just with a little blurb.

Nope, sorry. All of my guys are content to stay with the organzation. The last "stud" I had that wouldn't resign was Negrette...good numbers, bad performance.

By the way, I'm doing my early scouting of the minors for my roto leagues this year. I'm reading John Benson's Future Stars: The Rookies of 2001-2002. I read in one place in there about a player named Derrick Gibson. To quote: "Body by Bo Jackson, swing by Dave Kingman." I about spewed coke when I read that. ;)

Later.

i think something went wrong with my draft card. i picked up a 1 star player in like the 3rd round and a 4 star avg player in the 4th. oh well, my team is performing how i thought it should and i hope in the next couple of years i can get the team together.

While there hasn't been as much talking on the boards this season it is shaping up to be much more competitive. Alot of teams are hanging around near the top of their respective divisions. Here are the latest rankings:

1.Mets(8)
2.Redsox(10)
3.Astros(11)
4.Giants(13)
5.Padres(14)
6.Whitesox(15)
7.Orioles(18)
7.Rangers(18)
9.Indians(28)
10.Royals(31)
11.Cardinals(33)
12.Yankees(36)
13.Cubs(39)
14.Mariners(40)
15.Dodgers(44)
16.Braves(47)

So there is a jump between the top 8 and bottom 8 teams. And the top 8 is pretty bunched up.No team seems to have even one dominating stat. Last season at least in the begining I had by far the top pitching and I think (not sure) that the Mets had the best hitting. It seems to have been another bad draft pool. But considering what was available and being that I had the last pick I am pretty happy with what I got. I am sure the Braves are regretting last seasons trades. First with me he trades clemens to free the salary and gives me $45mill and then clemens retires. Then with the Red Sox he trades this seasons #1 pick which happens to be a 12 star prospect.

That is not fair to the new Braves owner. He absolutely needed to rid himself of those 100-125 mil pitchers whether thru bankruptcy or trade. The Clemens deal didn't work out but who could guarantee Clemons would retire? Again he had to be rid of the contracts. Clemens was only 35 wasn't he? Which reminds me my 39 year old Caminiti is available if anyone needs some extra pop going into the playoffs.

David, we aren't saying that he didn't do something he HAD to do...it is just that the deals his hand forced on him are surely a bitter pill for him to swallow right now. I know that I would be pissed off at having to trade Valent. The Clemens trade isn't that big of a deal to me. So he lost some money. I have a team in another league that is almost as bad as his that I am rebuilding. I have about 140 mill right now, after building it up for a few seasons. The money is a non-issue. What we are all collectively wincing over is the fact that he HAD to make these deals due to the former owner being a screw-up who ruined his future. I feel for him, and the position he is in, but it says a lot that he is hanging in there.

We are dying again !!! I will now have made 4 straight posts. I am still in the running for the playoffs but it will be tough. I am 3 games back with 8 games left. Both the White Sox and I play the Royals and Mariners so it will be hard to gain 3 games. Anyway here are the latest rankings. I will go back to the old way of posting it.

1.Redsox(9)
1.Padres(9)
3.Mets(11)
4.Whitesox(13)
5.Astros(15)
6.Giants(17)
6.Orioles(17)
6.Rangers(17)
9.Royals(27)
10.Cardinals(29)
11.Indians(34)
12.Yankees(36)
13.Cubs(39)
13.Mariners(39)
15.Dodgers(43)
16.Braves(48)

We have a tie for first between the Padres & Red Sox. Both deserve alot of credit. The Red Sox were the power house team 2 seasons ago and after a 1 season break (which they were pretty good anyway) they are back on top of their division. The Padres have been steadly climbing and in a year of weak pitching they have the #1 ERA in the league. It seems like there are really only 2 races left. Me and the White Sox in the AL West and the Padres and Giants in the NL west. Though only the NL East is mathematicly over. Good luck to all in the final two weeks. Also for those looking at the Free Agent list for this coming offseason it looks pretty bleak. No one it seems will be able to improve much if they were depending on that.

What a series! Taking 3-4 from the METS! Wow! I didn't even think I would do that. I was rather worried when they took game two, but I was able to put together a good series. Not only that my pitching was able to get 2 shutouts out of the deal.

It's too bad we're not finishing the season with each other like we did last year. Instead, the Royals and Mariners indirectly decide our collective fates! Time for the cream to rise to the top, and the Rangers to watch the playoffs from the sidelines!

I would only pay for this game if everyone in this league stays. This was my first league I joined and it is the one that I enjoy the most. I feel that over these past couple of months that I have gotten to know some people and make some new friends. It sucks that this will be the only way to keep the game open because I feel that it will turn a lot of members off and most will leave. However, the game needs to be improved for it to be worthy of paying a monthly fee for. Again I hope that everybody will stay in it.

I am definitly in. I had a team in another league which I dropped so I can devote more time to this team. By the way congrats to Joe Harper.... barring a total collapse he will win the division. It looks like we will be expanding the 30 teams and would like to take the Marlins when they come and just transfer all my players to that team. Hopefully that will be possible. I also hope that everyone here stays. One good thing is that with people paying you know they will stick it out and not just drop teams. $18 for 6 months is only $3 a month which I can definitly handle.

I'm staying. I might drop my O3 team, as it is a major rebuilding project, but that is dependent on what kind of price break I can get for multiple teams. However, I will be very unhappy if we can't take our teams with us. I think we all need to watch and agree not to make any lop-sided trades with folks who aren't going to continue. That could hurt all of us down the road. I intend to be here, and hope the rest of us make as well.

Depending on what happens with pricing, I am leaning towards staying. I will probably drop my P2 league since it requires so much rebuilding. But I enjoy this league and this team to just throw it all away.
What will become of the webpage. :(

I am defiently staying, have to see how my top prospect pans out.... seriously, i dont mind paying for the site because if something is really good, then i believe in rewarding the creator... I think it would be cool if our league got expanded? and we brought in another 14 managers... but i defiently want to keep our group together, and keep the webpage alive. You watch, a year form now we will be telling the new managers that this once used to be a free site, I love grandslam baseball, so much i dont play smallworld anymore, so i am defiently in... I hope our league stays together.

another point, is that we can ask the commish to halt trading till after the pay site is in affect, or we can just agree to keep the trading fair, im sure we will think of something.

There should prolly be a system whereby really bad trades got protested, with enuff protests nixing the deal like Sandbox has. [except not enuff owners actually protest in sandbox to make the system work]

Had I not become addicted to GSB I definately would not have joined it as a pay league but I am on the fence leaning towards paying.

It remains to be seen how GSB works as a pay site as it seems to me the turnover on bad teams will lead to chaos.

LTA

No question Valent was a plum. On another topic that is one loaded farm system you have there. I'd offer you some trades if I could identify a need on your team. 8] Hard to believe that farm system was not singled out when the top ones were mentioned by the commish. Being the egghead number cruncher who obviously figured out the system before I did, to what do you attribute the fact that the true top prospects do not match the ones the system identifies?

Thanks for the congrats.

As to the disparity between the top prospects and their rankings on the league prospect leagues, I can only assume that the sim ONLY looks at the stars. They value Gap equally, even when that is not all that valuable. Also, I tend to like to look at FB for pitchers, and it takes none of that into account. I haven't run any kind of analysis on how it does rate, but that is my opinion. As to my needs, top rate SP's are always welcome. ;)

Thanks to WiddleAvi for the congrats on the division - you had me worried all the way until the end!!! Also, I'll probably be staying with the site as well. It would definitely be nice if we could all stay together as a group when things get changed over to 30 teams...don't know if anyone noticed, but Bill Everly (AL ERA leader) was injured for 3 weeks during the final series, so I'll be without him for the ALCS. Darn the luck!!!

Best of luck to all playoff teams!

Talk about ugly.....I had an outside chance of making the playoffs if I could gain 3 games on Joe Harper's White Sox in the last 2 series. Well my team crumbled against the Royals & Mariners going 2-6 including being swept in the Finale !! I don't expect much of a change in my team for next season. There is possibly 2 retirements but I am ready for them.

I want everyone to prepare for the greatest post-season comback in M2 history. Down 3-0 to the Red Sox without our staff ace, the White Sox come back to dominate game 4. Now, with that momentum, and converted closer Jon Adkins taking the starter role for game 5, the Pale Hose are poised to reel off 3 more in a row to make the World Series!

Well, maybe. Anyway, congrats to the Mets, and if I lose the ALCS to the Red Sox again (that would be 0-4 in ALCS against the Red Sox) I think I'll cry...

I was thinking, since this might be one of the final seasons we have in M2 as we know it, I propose that we come up with an M2 Hall of Fame. We could induct present and past players into the Hall so that they could forever be known as the M2 Hall of Famers. What do you guys think?

Good question about critera. Maby we should ony do the players that retired since we started the webpage, or only do stats for players that have finished there carers after we started tracking them. If we are doing ALL players then John Hernandez (Who was stolen from me by Sanfan!!!) should be included....he is only 23 and he is second on the career list in HR when he retires he will hold the all time HR record for a career in a 64 game season !! He is always on top in SLG and probally has a career BA over .300

Robb Nen is the all time saves leader. Anybody who has been around long enough should remember Mark Clark. He was at or near the top in Wins, ERA, and strikeouts I believe his career ERA was somewhere around what's Downs's is now.

Clark should be in there for certain. So should Mel Rojas, who was close to Nen in saves for his career. As far as players that I, for certain, remember (which is off of my team...), I think that Mike Lyons definitely deserves consideration.

Ok, I can't get the damn mail program on the GSB site to work, so I'll just post it here. Please ignore the html tags:Guys,

I seem to have found myself with an overstocked system, and I need to trade some players. Take a look at these folks and see if you would like to make me some offers on them.

2220Jason Romano
Romano has been my 2b for a number of years. He is not flashy, or all that spectacular, but he is cheap, defensibly reliable, and a good #9 hitter for those of you who need a 2B to fill a hole. Plus, he is only 30, so he will be around a few years.
375Mike Remlinger
Remlinger...well, he has good stuff. Just not a lot of control. He is a decent mop-up pitcher, and I have used him in both middle relief and long relief with some success. He tends to have a couple of good games sandwiched in between some truly atrocious ones. A decent pick for someone who needs bullpen filler.
2037Adam Pettyjohn
Pettyjohn is a decent bullpen guy, but I would still like to move him to make way for some folks coming up.
1428Brian Sikorski
See Pettyjohn.
2013John Nicholson
Nicholson is a decent candidate to start for a lot of clubs...but not the Mets. I have too many folks in front of him on the rotation depth chart for him to ever even *sniff* a starting rotation job, barring catastrophic injury to a lot of folks. He could step in and be a #2 or #3 pitcher on most teams in a heartbeat.
53John Olerud
Olerud was going to be my 1B this season, splitting time with Bierek in a platoon situation. However, with my trade for Nick Johnson, he is going to languish in AAA. Anyone have a use for a 457 AVG 1B? I've got one to trade.
507Chris Peterson
Peterson, and the next two SS's too, were all stockpiled against the fear of Larkin retiring on me. It seems that Barry has been eating his Wheaties, because at 38, he's still going strong and has signed on for another year in Blue and Orange. So, Peterson is available. He is a decent hitter, for a middle infielder. He's not ARod, but he will help you fill out a hole in the middle that might be causing you a problem.
160Jose Vizcaino
See Peterson
788Julio Lugo
Lugo is a legit prospect with no place to go. He has been passed on the organizational chart by Nicholson and Clayton, and therefore is languishing in the minors. Anyone out there want a 4/1/4 SS, who is in the low 300's in AVG after only 3 seasons? I like him still, but he is not in my long term plans any longer.
1933Jose Soriano
Soriano was a flyer that I took waaaay back when. He has been sitting at AAA for a couple of seasons now, blocked by my 4 OF's, Burnham, Ramirez, Light and Hunter. He is a legitimate power and speed threat, although his AVG leaves a little to be desired.
103Randy Velarde
Velarde could make it to be a useful ML backup, and as a 4 star AVG player, I was willing to give him the shot to develop. Now, I need the room in my farm.
1032Roosevelt Brown
Brown was another flyer that I took that may pay off yet. It is still too early to tell for sure. However, what is certain is that his progress to the majors is blocked by my current outfielders, making him expendable.
130Shane Andrews
Anyone need a decent 3B? Andrews could be what you have been looking for. He is still improving in AVG, and is FAST. Oh, and don't let the fact that he is in A ball throw you. I just put him there to free up some room at the upper levels.
530Tom Quinlan
Quinlan is a VERY speedy third baseman. He is done improving, but still, a 442 AVG/494 SPD 3B is nothing to sneeze about. I've seen worse starting before.

Anyway, if you are interested in any of these players, please send along some trade offers. I would make some, but my work schedule has gone to crap lately, and I simply don't have the time to sort through everyone's teams to look and see who needs what, and what I need in return. I will consider any trade offers submitted, but please, be reasonable. :)

I tried to do this three times on the site, and finally gave up. So, anyway, look over this, and let me know.
