Subject: O2 Season 8 (9??)
Posted by: Eustacio
- [594161920] Fri, Jan 05, 11:16
I think that Season 8 may have been wiped out by some sort of strike, but I'm not sure. Anyway, here is our brand-spanking new thread, all shiny and ready to be used. Will the Rangers make it back to the World Series, or shall one of the powerhouse AL East teams knock them off of their throne? What will happen in the ever-changing NL West, and can the Great One pull out another title in the NL East? |

Eric, thank you for such a post. I enjoyed reading it thoroughly. In fact, I printed it out and taped it to my desk for all to see.
I'm not worried. In the least. My team is good and getting younger. I'm not terribly threatened by my divsion, although TB has made some good moves.
Of course I am finding people to trade with. I have many good prospects, and other owners want these prospects. So why wouldn't they trade with me?
As for Sveum, he is readily available, since I have Hayes, Koskie, and Huff fighting for PT. In fact, any of the four can be had, for the right offer. Obviously Huff and Sveum are going to take a little more.
Also, Romano is quite available, with Hardge's advancement and Hul's playing right now.
I'd trade it all to be 25-3. Well, some of it.

8 pitchers on the top prospects list , wow I ahve something to look foward to now. I still will get some hitting for the future though , but with all this pitching I should be able to trade some to get some big bats down the road.

This is the best draft I've had in this league yet. I still can't get over grabbing a quality pitcher so late in the first round.

Hmm, 4 games @ San Fran, 4 games @ Cleveland, 4 @ Chicago, 4 @ Texas, 4 @ Seattle, 4 @home vs. Yankees, and 4 @ Orioles for the rest of the season. I'm 15/24 against those teams this year.
Of course, Bean Dip needs to go 17-11 and I have to go 28-0 for the rest of the season to force a 1-game playoffs and with the Indians sitting at 33-3, well, umm...

Hey, I tried. I don't think I've ever been swept in a 4 game series by 5 runs. It made for tense watching.
I'm fairly satisfied with the draft. I got two of my top six. Not quite as good as last year when I got 5 of my top 7. Looking to make some deals to shore up my lower minors. Particularly my older prospects (AAA) for younger ones.
2 pitchers on the top prospects list , wow I ahve something to look foward to now. I still will get some hitting for the future though , but with all this pitching I should be able to trade some to get some big bats down the road.

We're getting too low on the list. I had to post to get us back near the top.
On a side note, anyone in need of starting pitching might wish to consider one of my relief guys since they're pretty much all starters. I'll consider offers for Flohr, Pena, Johnson, Bradford and Damaso Marte. I'm looking for top tier prospects at all positions (as always) and infielders with high averages. Thanks.

Ladies and Gentlemen... (do we have any ladies in O2?)
I would like to introduce you to the Four Horsemen. Three of these men have been scouted by the Rangers since high school and all three rated exceptionally high among Ranger scouts. The fourth is Kaipo Spenser. Obtained in the Jason Shiell trade several years ago, Spenser has been the brightest pitching prospect in the organization since. Now he has some company.
A couple years ago, Jeff Harris and Keith Glauber debutted for the Rangers, a great culmination to years of cultivation. Ever since Glauber and Harris have led the team to many division titles and, at 24, are still entrenched at the top of the rotation. But few players can play with the same team for their whole careers (excepting Nick Johnson, of course). As Harris and Glauber become older and more expensive, the Rangers will need other pitchers to replace them.
That process began with the acquisition of Spenser and took a major step forward last week at the O2 Amateur draft. With their first two picks, the Rangers selected Rick Krivda and Jeff Sparks, two highly touted pitching prospects in the Ranger tradition, with blazing fastballs, and exceptional control.
The final piece came immediately after the draft, when the Rangers unloaded future star Calvin Pickering for Mike Hampton, who had been taken by the Cubs in the first round.
So there you have it. The current group, consisting of Keith Glauber, Jeff Harris, Melido Dotel, and Phillip Norton, should be around for at least two or three more seasons. Sometime soon thereafter will be the debuts of these "can't miss" prospects.
Kaipo Spenser - 23 years old, 463 FB, 4-1-4
Jeff Sparks - 23 years old, 462 FB, 3-2-4
Rick Krivda - 19 years old, 494 FB, 4-1-4
Mike Hampton - 19 years old, 495 FB, 3-2-4

Wow,3 out of 4 from the Rangers , and now I don't have the worst record in O2. Wow maybe there is a sunny side on the other side of the cloud. But in bad news Detmers , who has been solid all season , has been injured and probably wont be back. Oh well , there is always next year for him.

You took 2 of 4 from me too. Good work.
On a side note, the White Sox and Astros owners (OWNER) have been removed by the commish. I'm trying to lure some good managers from other leagues I'm in to take them over.

I saw that you caught him the GSB boards. Did he get removed from your other leagues as well?
BH- I would still trade with you. I didn't mean to offend you, just makes me take a little closer look at the players ivolved. Like you said, though, your farm system is pretty loaded and I don't have much to offer anyways. Judging by the players you have dumped this year I doubt you had been using GRT much more than one season. Of course, that is still plenty of time to know where all your players will end up rating wise.
I know this post is a little late but I loved the draft. I got my 1st and 5th ranked player. Several more in my top 20-30. I cannot believe that Bean Dip got Grieve drafting so low. Several teams had some really good drafts. For the record, I chose Molina over Phelps only because of stamina and if we ever happen to see a health rating mean anything.
I forgot who got Sele, maybe the Mets? Did anyone else happen to note his stamina rating for an RP? I had him ranked up there as well.

Yeah, my top 6 pitchers were Molina, Phelps, Sele, Hampton, Krivda, and Sparks. The latter half of that bunch sounds a bit familiar...

I had close to the same order for pitchers. I changed my ratings and moved Phelps second, but liked Sele better. Phelps just has more "trade value"
I also had Sparks before Hampton and then Krivda. I don't really remember why. Probably had to do with Stamina seeing how Hampton has higher initial ratings. I am also not a big fan of having one of the stars being a one, but Krivda could end up with a great fastball, BB, and control.
I do know I had a lot of hitters before any of the last three pitchers, but my minor leagues have many need areas. On a stronger team I probably would have rated them higher.

I tried to log into http://basketball-game.com and had no luck.
I already have a gym at WeBL and I enjoy that site. I have a few good boxers but have devoted a lot of time to GSB. I retired all my fighters except one, to concentrate on this game. Looks like I might end up bringing a few back from retirement.
I do have the number one heavy weight contender in the SE division. King Kong Dingo. If he wins his next fight does he go to contenders automatically?
Didn't understand "GRT" comment because it couldn't have been used on this draft. I will not keep this team come pay time. Does anyone blame me? I have two stronger teams that are much more competitive. I would like to move one of my better teams into a league with those who will remain.
Maybe I will go post a "home wanted ad" on the GSB boards for my other team.

What a coincidence.
What does the future of O2 look like? Any idea how many we are losing? Are most people joining the big merger of all gurupie leagues. If that's the case my O2 team may have to go. I may put a team in that league but not this one. Teams in weak leagues will be stacked and I may not be able to compete, I'll see. Is it definite that all leagues will be 30 teams? I think it'd be nice if we could keep O2 together and fill in the holes with other gurupies/solid GM's. Since we built our team for a 16 team league I'd rather keep it that way and keep the teams we have now.
I think we need to figure out where everyone is standing right now.
BTW, Since we're talking about the draft...has anyone else had ranking problems? The rankings I put in aren't used correctly, I'm positive. There is nothing I can do about it though because the commish doesn't keep your draft rankings. It's happened to me every single year too. Nothing huge but for some reason guys get passed up. Does this just happen to me.

It's happened to me in other leagues too Dev. I make a final copy of my draft rankings and post to an excel file. I list who was drafted by what team and a couple of times I have drafted a guy while there was still one ahead of him that I had ranked higher. It's never happened from the ones I have ranked into my first grouping, though.

I don't think I am going to keep this team. If I keep any teams it will be my team in X which is so damn stacked. I have 3 SSs in the majors with 450+ in AVG and 5 in AAA with 400+. That is just a sample of my domination in that league. I have been trying to dump SSs for awhile now and no one seems to want them.

I will probably give up my stacked team in Z2. Isn't as fun as competing against "friends" in competitive leagues.
Speaking of domination, congrats on your easy division title Blue Hen. My team is still years away from competing and nobody else is any closer. I wonder what kind of owners came in here and dismantled the Sox, Royals, and Mariners. The Royals are one of the better clubs in every other league I am in. The Mariners are pathetic in every league I am in. Must be some dude going league to league just messing up the Mariners.

Not with this team I wasn't but you are more than welcome to add your "powerhouse" to our P2 merger league. That has been a competitive league and my Orioles team isn't stacked like my Royals are. I did just win my second Championship there but it is a very balanced league.
I am not proud of my O2 Mariners but I am not embarrassed either. I just took over this team and have had one whole season to improve them. It's not like I have had a lot to work with, lol.

I'm going to be keeping my O2 team, my M3 Royals (my best team by far), my C3 Dodgers and most likely my J2 Astros. I also want to get involved in a start from scratch league as well.
I could care less for mergers, I'll go where I end up unless some people from this league all want to move our teams to a new league to stay involved with each other.

Now that a respected and longtime O2 manager(The Great One) has signed Rangel to a 5 year 170 million offer I wonder if it was still a gay bid?
Lol
Knowing that you are giving up your team when it goes to a pay site I know exactly why you bid. I felt the same way. Why not spend what you have and try to win a series on the way out. I guess I felt bad because I haven't had time to establish myself in this league and didn't want a bad name here at the message forum. I still wish I grabbed him, though...lol.
Oh well, I guess I can be Blue Hen's punching bag for another season.
BTW, I am looking for a stud SP (or four) and any stud hitters with high average and speed to trade for prospects and cash. I am plenty full of RP who can't pitch worth a darn and some average hitters who are slow as dirt.
Molina, Burns, King, Matranga, Bordick, Giles, and every other prospect I have, except for a couple on my AAA team, are available for trade.

From what I understood, the commish will be merging every active team into new leagues.
The teams and/or leagues that do not come up with their own merger plan and present it to the commish will be randomly merged with other active owners.
I could be wrong, but the commish stated that he wanted less leagues and filling each one with active teams makes sense.
Then again, there is that outside chance that the Braves from O2 are put in the last filled league as a random team until an active owner comes along. I doubt that happens.

I assume that most of the O2 owners that haven't said otherwise want to at least stay in the same league, with 20 or so managers joining us. So we should say something along those lines to the Commish.
I want to say that it was a very fair trade between Eric and TB. Eric got 4 tremendous prospects that will help him many years into the future, and TB got the best deal he could while making one last run at it. Under ordinary circumstances, I would say that Eric got the best of the deal, but TB really didn't have any other options.
I probably could have given him a package of Henderson, Robertson, and Bravo for those prospects. However, that makes him almost as good as me for this year... better at shortstop, better at 1st outfielder, and coming a whole lot closer at catcher. With a little luck, TB could even beat me for the AL West championship in what will probably be O2's final season. That, of course, goes directly against my philosophy of winning every year, which has been my goal.
That said, TB is much improved by this trade, and should put up more of a fight than any of the other teams. I look forward to doing battle with you, sir.

Well I would like to stay in the same league as any O2 managers who are going to stick it out when it becomes pay for play. I enjoy playing in the same league as everyone who is active in O2. This includes Blue Hen who people somehow think I dislike. This certainly isn't the case. I respect him greatly as an owner and he's done a great job with his team. That being said I look forward to kicking his ass for years to come.
Without rivalries and politics, where would we be? Yikes, I almost sounded like Brian Koontz there for a sec..LOL
TB and I had a decent trade. He proposed that he wanted to contend this year and I offered him the options that I had for the here and now and helped my future team at the same time. Great One benefited a lot from this trade since it pretty much guarantees him the title this year.
On one final note, in the latest note of the Commish's he says most leagues should get 2 more free seasons in before the site turns pay to play so let's see some really active 2 years. Good luck everyone!!!

I liked the trade for both teams. Catchers that I draft never seem to reach their "potential" for me in any league I am in. Seems like I have to rely on FA or trade to fill that spot. Burns has horrible speed for what I like in my fielders and was tradeable. Wommack should be a good player but is older and isn't a need player for me.
I hated giving up Molina but then again, he is a prospect. I got 5 players that improve my team in every area. My team isn't as good as yours, yet. We still have a draft coming up that might help me make a trade for another good pitcher and if we happen to get another season in, maybe I can prevent you from reaching that goal.

I will now defend my heterosexuality....lol.
I wasn;t aware that O2 was merging with another league. If that is the case, then somebody really should say something. I had been paedaling my teams on the GSB board for other managers to take over and had no takers on this one, so if this team was going to be used by someone in the future, that is something that I should have been made aware of.

I think every abandoned team will just disappear and only active teams who pay for the site will be merged.
Anyone else ever notice that you can see next years schedule on the last day of free agency? Mine sucks. I get the Red Sox at home and then 6 weeks on the road. Blue Hen, you get two weeks at home then 6 on the road so ours is pretty similar.
Always kills the ole pocketbook not to mention the winning percentage.
