Any input on following trade would be appreciated. I am perplexed with what to do on this trade. My uncertainty lies in evaluating how much of a difference is an HR rating of 459 vs an HR rating of 498.

Stats of players giving up:
Player A: SS - 463, 459, 345, 453
Player B: OF - 473, 282, 293, 471

Sats of player acquiring:
Player A: SS - 446, 498, 395, 343
Player B: OF - 480, 395, 312, 287

All other factors are fairly equal. My team has 7 players with Avg over 470, but only two players with HR over 420: the 459 above and a 479.

It seems that my team should be scoring lots of runs, but it hasn't the last few seasons. The guy that has won my division has a bunch of guys with 440-460 avg, but big HR numbers.

Not knowing any other data, like OBP and SLG, I wouldn't make the trade. You are giving up speed at both positions and the higher average SS.

Again, this is without knowing all the details and just my 2 cents, but you can find a better trade to make.

Well, the real question is do you value speed on the players, if you think speed isn't that big of a deal I would swing the deal, if you do I would reconsider.

Looks pretty even to me. depends on age and contract lenth to me. those two players together seem pretty equal to me

You know, a lot of teams don't think speed is a big deal. Take a look at the teams leading your league in stolen bases. Take a look at runs scored. There is a very good chance that they are leading the league in both.

The OFers in the deal are a wash. I wouldn't give up the speed to increase a HR rating that is still below 415.

I also wouldn't trade SS for a difference in HR rating when they are both above 450.

Wammie is correct, though. Age, contract value and length should sway the ultimate decision if speed is not your concern. Personally, I don't like to have more than one or two guys in any line-up that are below 300 in speed.
