Plenty of league emails lately but no posts.

I guess I would like to restate my take on free agency. No hard feelings at all, but we each manage our teams differently. Most teams have overpaid for a guy in one way or another. I myself have done it by trading away young talent for the likes of Stovall or Hollandsworth, just to make my WS run. Had I won it that year it would have been easily justified.

I don't like getting beat at at sim time. I don't always have the time to be hanging out and refreshing either. I would like to see the time come when the right offer is given, the player signs right away. None of the free agents I bid on are going to go for less than 6 million a year so starting off with 5 years 20 million is actually a low bid. Five years 2 million is never going to fly in this league so I have no idea why some of you even bid it. Not knocking, just keeping it real.

I make my initial bid less than what my full offer would be but high enough to get a feel for who else might be bidding on a guy. Some owners get scared off by high price and other owners would rather wait and try to get him right before sim.

Most of us have noticed that by the third day, these guys get real expensive. Usually that's because they are all that is left. Most free agents I have aquired have been on day one or two at 75% of what my full bid would have been. I am not giving away any secrets here or even teaching some unknown trick.

Why mess around and bid less on them? I don't want to keep the prices low for competing managers. Might sound good for you and your teams plans, but I have the money to pay for them and bid based on what I deem their value to be.

My true intent is to get the players I bid on. Either to upgrade my team, fill a need area, or to use for trade bait. I come in with strong bids on the players that deserve and will receive strong bids for that purpose only.

I do know that I have decided that if I cannot get the player I want, he isn't going to come cheap to my competitors because they beat me at sim time. It usually makes everyone prioritize what FA they are shooting for and that also helps my team. All my bidding and all the energy I put into my team is for one purpose only. To win the WS every year.

I wouldn't want to ruin the league while improving my team, but apparently there are enough owners that are willing to pay those high prices or I wouldn't be outbid. When someone else overpays for a player, that turns out good for the other owners. He no longer has the cash to bid high on good NL players. He becomes more susceptible to trading players or prospects for cash.

The emails generated several different views and I agree with a couple of them. I don't come in here and bid on Saturdays just to make myself pay more in the long run. Trust me, the cheaper I can get them for, the better I like it.

Teams like the Cards and Mets who have 5 and 6 major league outfielders on their teams, respectively should like to see those guys prices go through the roof. It makes their excess that much more valuable.

Had the Royals owner not jumped ship or made some trades, only Norton would be a FA this year. In most active leagues free agents are non-existent. Supply dictates demand. With only a couple players available and many teams needing them, their value and eventual contracts will be much higher than they should be. That is free agency.

The top 5 reasons was pretty funny but I think my list of demands might have been a lil funnier.

Hey, anyone notice the ChiSox haven't logged on in a long time? Looks like they may be gone soon. That just paves the way for the Rangers to WIN IT ALL!!! YEAH!

Hmmm...Norton goes 5-9 with a 4.68 ERA, he's 33 years old...I think it makes sense to sign him to a 5 year 105 million dollar contract, don't you?..yeah, there is no problem with the free agency format.

I was thinking along the same lines Whitey. I was willing to give him a one year 15-20 million deal or even 2 years 30-35 million and see if he could act like a hired gun. I just can't justify more than that according to my team needs.

I was thinking about the teams that aren't going to stay when it becomes a pay site. If they want to overbid right now there is nothing we are going to be able to do. I don't really need any of the FA and they have all exceded my "value" limits.

Forgot to add:

Welcome back Pimpster.

The List of Demands was very funny Timing. A lot of what we said was funny. How they reacted was entertaining but kinda sad too. It makes me wonder what the ages are for some of them. Then again, many youngsters show better judgement, at times, then adults.

It doesn't really matter if a guy offers Norton a 5 year deal, other than the signing bonus. He will retire after a couple of seasons most likely, so any one willing to give him 20 mil a year must have a ton of cash, so the signing bonus doesn't mean much.

The problem with free agency is that in MLB teams don't want to run in the red. in gsb you can be in the black for 5 seasons and then in the red for five seasons. I like it better that way though. usually there aren't many fa's so there are going to go for a lot of money, because every one stock piles their money. if people didn't want the fas to go for so high, the only way to make if fair would to have players resign for much more money. in the end people are going to spend the same amount on players. 9 of 10 are going to be 7 mil or under, and one is going to be 20 million.

TB, you don't have a guy over 7 mil a year. how many teams win a ws rign with out having some expensive tallent these days? none. so he gets to save up all his cash with such a low payroll and what for? so he can dump all kinds of cash on fa's and NLers.

J- I don't know about the rest of the gsb managers, but if I was going to trade away a staff ace, I would want asleast two hitters who would start on any team in the league. I would not even trade a staff ace for the best hitter in gsb. an ace is just too valuable to me and most gsb managers.

I think that Brock made out pretty good on that trade. PP, you do get some cash, and maybe that was important to you, but I think that Harris is better than Thomson. Time will tell. I could be wrong about that though.

So what's the deal with the player's fielding rating not improving when you bring him up to ML? I brought a couple pitchers up and their fielding rating improved, but the OFers I brought up stayed right where they were when I brought them up. I have a couple infielders I want to bring up, but I don't want to if their fielding ratings will stay where they are...

It's funny you should say that worm because that's the very reason I took this approach to rebuilding. When I first joined in I had a couple of good players, Castilla, Brogna, and Gabe White. I could have spent on free agents and probably could have been decent for those 5/6 season. My whole goal though was to rebuild my whole organization from the bottom up so that every year I would have a chance to win the World Series. I think my team is close to being in the position to achieve the goal I set when I joined the league.

I don't know if I can make it to the Series this season, but if my team plays well I should have a shot.

I think Worm and Wammie have been hanging out because Worm is starting to sound like a crack fiend too. Timing has a damn good chance to make the Series. Norton doesn't help him that much. He's just an average pitcher but all his other talent does. Norton hasn't been the same pitcher since the sim changed.

It would be interesting to draft a ton of good minor leaguers though and just not draft any good major leaguers at all. Hmmm, ya could build a dynasty that way.

I'm doing some stats on P2, I'll post some numbers soon hopefully, but here's some stuff I found a little interesting...

Hitting
-The Orioles have the oldest hitters (31.3) and the lowest AVG rating (455.8).
-The Rangers have the youngest hitters (26.4) and the highest AVG rating (469.0).
but
-The Orioles have the best hitters (when you average all 4 categories) 1,610.2
-The Giants have the worst 1,445.8
-The Giants are incredibly SLOW 268.1 for SPEED average.
-My Mets are the fastest club 409.3

Pitching
-The Padres have the oldest starters 31.8
-The Indians have the youngest starters 25.4
-The Braves have the best average control rating with a staggerring average of 471.5
-The Dodgers have the worst 379.0
-The Royals have the best starters 1,723.0
-The Mariners have the worst 1,484.0

Bullpen
-The Cubs are the youngest 26.0
-The Padres are the oldest 31.5
-The Mariners have the worst pen 1,456.3
-The Rangers have the best pen 1,730.0

And remember - numbers never lie!!!! (except in GSB)

Worm is on a bit of a mean streak.

Timing, it wasn't whining I was doing, just making a negative vote for the Rangers. We all know that I don't like the tactics you used.

Just a quick question, will Gerald Eday be the highest paid hitter ever in P2. If I am not mistaken Norton now has the largest contract in p2's history.

Any body remember Matt Nokes? This is from the Chicago Trib.

Nokes to Flyers: Matt Nokes, a former All-Star catcher with the Detroit Tigers, signed a one-year player-coach contract with the Schaumburg Flyers of the independent Northern League.

Nokes, 37, played in the Northern League in 1998 and 1999 with the St. Paul Saints.

Flyers manager Ron Kittle, also a former major-leaguer, said Nokes will catch and be a DH.
