Season 9 is here and it might be our last one. I am now reconsidering keeping my team after the game becomes a money game.

Can the CUBS recover from the suprise retirement of Pedro Martinez? I think so, just look at thier minors and you can see that they have plenty to trade for a SP.

Can the METS make a run in the NL east? It should be the best race of all 4 divisions.

As for my dodgers, I'm coming off a season that I rather forget being swept by the Cubs in the playoffs, my 5th straight. But now some of my youngsters are about ready and I am ready to become a powerhouse again.

I curious about how my team stacks up. My teams average stats are 463BA 380HR 351GAP 347SPD.
What are your averages (Starters only)?
And my pitchers average 1748 points each starter if you add up there FB, CH, BR, CTL.

Sorry about that Dave. When I scanned the final standings somehow I got this league and my other one confused in my mind. I guess I thought all the divisions were pretty much settled a few weeks back, and I didn't realize there was such a close race in the NL West. Hopefully you won't put a curse on my team like the one you've got on the Cubs. ;)

Had we simply played .500 ball against the Astros, we would have reached the 50-win mark. So close, yet so far. Hark, we shall reach the promised land... ;)

Shall we vote for awards this year? I know we didn't do it last year(Ethan Fagget and Mike Bell are still complaining to me about it), and the lack of participation was made it less exciting as it should be:)

No problem skineej, looks like the curse held off as well as you head to the WS against the Cubs, good luck to both of you in that. With regards to the H2 message board, i assume the Hated Koontz post is the one Synocco is talking about, i think it is probably just someone trying to make trouble (altough probably not Brian Koontz himself). Also whats the deal with the team ownership, the same person has 7 teams ??.

Two teams with .750 winning percentages... I'm salivating just thinking about the gate revenue. I'm predicting a Cubs win in 7, though I might be a bit biased. But if past history is any indication...

Season 1 : Mariners Defeat Braves
Season 2 : Cardinals Defeat Mariners
Season 3 : Royals Defeat Cubs
Season 4 : Cubs Defeat Royals
Season 5 : Cubs Defeat Yankees
Season 6 : Yankees Defeat Cubs
Season 7 : Dodgers Defeat Yankees
Season 8 : Cubs Defeat Royals
Seasons 9 : ???

Season 7 was Dodgers over Royals unfortunately. This will be the Royals' 5th trip to the WS and hopefully they can bring home their 2nd crown. Yeah, the gate revenues should be enormous - as long as one team doesn't sweep it in four. I don't think we've ever had a series go less than 6 games, though.

Actually, even if one team does sweep, we still get paid the gate revenue for the second sim. No refunds on postseason tickets!

Well, it should be no surprise that the Cubs and Royals split the first 4. However, I don't expect the Royals to score 9 runs on Carmody again, just as the Cubs shouldn't score 6 on Downs either. Also, Dixon had better start putting it together as he is Bohanon's replacement when he retires. 7 runs in one inning of relief is pathetic.

Prediciton: Cubs win game 5, 3-2 as Carmody regains his form and outpitches Bohanon. The Royals take game 6, 4-1 with Downs shutting down the Cubs hitters. Game 7 will be close but Scott will pitch a little better than Ohka giving the Royals a 5-3 win to take the crown.

I'm not a big Dixon fan. I would project someone with his ratings to have an ERA just over 5.00 over the course of several hundred innings.

I wish I had another alternative, but I am weak in starting pitching at AAA. I traded Wagner away, but his numbers were about the same as Dixons and he was a year older. Dixon has a had a few flashes of brilliance, but I expect he will be over 4.00 most of the time in ERA. Although, with my lineup he could still win 8-10 games!

This just in!! The Cubs have just successfully defended their World Series Title
Many thought all hopes were gone after Carmody blew up for the second time in the series. But the Cubbies hang on as a team and really showed what a championship is all about.
Now the season has ended, many veterans decided to call it quits and began a new life on the Links. Guys like Matt Williams(One of the best hitter ever), Richard Negrette(One of the best relievers of all time) along with other fan favorites like Wonderful Monds and Brandon Reed (boy, look at all those yankees) wanted to form a new golf league, anyone interested please give Matty a call.

OK, regarding the matter on the H2 message board. Coglin and I are the ones that the accuser has named as being the GRT-users. I guess I'm a little stunned. The accuser's "informant" is apparently someone who is still in L2 or has recently left. Actually, I guess it could be one of you, but I still would like some input.

Throughout these seasons I have tried to stress fair play and the spirit of the game. I have tried to be helpful and supportive of other managers whenever possible. I once emailed the Mets when he forgot to sign his draft picks. I once emailed the Giants when he left Robinson Cancel off his 40-man roster. I've tried play by the book. OK, there was the Carmody incident back in Season 2, but I believe I have explained that to the best of my abilities.

I knew about the GRT before Brian Koontz announced it. Did I use the GRT to rip you guys off in trades? No. Did I use the GRT to assist drafts? No. Should I have told the world about the GRT? Maybe, but it's too late now.

I guess one thing that amuses me about the accusations that I have received is that the accuser cites Wilson Sido as one piece of proof that I'm using the GRT. However, I traded for Sido 8 weeks ago... after he had stopped improving. Over the past few seasons I have made some good trades. Some have turned out great (getting Zosky from the Royals). Some have turned out bad (getting Pratt from the Yankees). Some have yet to be decided. For every 3 good trades I have made, I can name a bad one. A good manager will make more good trades than bad ones and I feel that Coglin and I are a good managing team.

I hope this matter resolves itself. I hope there has been some misunderstanding. For now, Coglin and I just wanted to let you guys know. Please do not discuss this on the H2 message board as the matter is still being looked into by Chief Rum and he has not made anything public knowledge yet. Thank you.

For what its worth the informant is not me, i remember you saying that you had knowledge of GRT before it became general knowledge (or at least before Koontz made it general knowledge) and that you had used it to estimate your minor league player stats, for me this is not a problem as with the way the old formula was set up it was difficult not to have an idea of your minor league stats if you simply had the time to check them a couple of times. I personally have not noticed or ever thought that you or anyone else in this league had ever used GRT knowledge to assist them in making unfair trades (although i haven't been here long enough to know about all of the trades i.e the Carmody one which you mentioned). I personally think that the informant may have seen that you knew about GRT and taking into consideration how good your current team is jumped to a wrong conclusion, but as they apparantly had no evidence to support this they used Sido to back up their claims (a player who i know was not aquired unfairly as it was me who you got him from, something i will be more than happy to tell Chief Rum if it comes to that). From what i know of the Chief he will be fair and thorough when trying to substantiate these claims and so you should have nothing to worry about.

When I first saw this on the H2 board I thought to myself Joe McCarthy. Let's start accusing people of being commies and drag their name into the ground. I was guessing they were accusing me since somebody already claimed my P league Royals were so good and there is a dominant Mets team in my league that probably used the GRT.

Scott Pratt I forgot about him. Hey, he has decent numbers what did I get in return?

I didn't know what the GRT was for so long that I don't know who used it or who didn't and I don't even care. From what I understand it can't be used now so what does it matter? Accusing teams and pitting teams against each other is a lousy way to start a league. I personally am having second thoughts about continuing to play this game. I'm not paying money to deal with this crap.

Dave: The Carmody situation goes as follows:
Manager of the braves quit the league, while not having Carmody(rookie at the time) on the 40 man roster. So Carmody become a free agent. Back then there is a trick in which you can sign a rookie player for one year, demote him to AAA immediately and hence void the contract(this trick/bug have now been fixed). Chris, the ex Astros manager, knew this and started bidding for carmody like wild. We noticed this and eventually figured the trick, decided to bid against Chris. Before you know it Carmody's contract started to look very suspicious(in the 100+M/year range). Synocco and I decided that we should inform everyone in the league whats going on. So he mailed other managers. At the end, Chris got the highest bid(325M/1 year or something) but forgot that the signing bonus is 15% instead of 10%. Note, Chris did this trick to 2 other players as well, them being Jim Mann and Rich Amaral, added up to over 70M in signing bonus. So he went bankrupt, and Carmody was later acquired by us Cubs from the waiver wire for thirty some odd million in cash.

Damn Yank: I think we traded you both Wonderful Monds and Brandon Reed for Scott Pratt.

No, no, Yanks got Wonderful Monds from the waiver wire. We traded Brandon Reed, Rich Amaral, and Ryan Klesko for Pratt. Both Reed and Amaral were stars, but Klesko looks like he's turning into an uber-stud. Pratt is ok, but he's not going to crack my lineup before he turns 30...

As for the other matter. We want to thank everyone for the show of support. Dave: if you could email Chief Rum and confirm the Sido trade, that would be great. What disappoints me the most about the whole matter is that the "accuser" is a manager who has been in L2 for a long time, yet chose not to come to us directly with his concerns. Please, if "you" are still in L2, lets establish a dialogue and clear up whatever misunderstandings and illfeelings that remain.

To everyone: have a great offseason! May your trades be fruitful and suspicion-free. ;)

Personally, I don't think anything will come of this. Once the situation is explained, I feel it will all just blow over, and rightfully so.

However, if it does not, I think that we should all back Coglin and Synocco and take L2 elsewhere. I propose that we stick together, and I do not intend to participate in this merger if Coglin and Synocco are not there.

However, if you are not supported by all of H2, and all of the rogue particpants from other leagues and subsequently kicked out, I am following you to whatever league you end up in, and I would suspect that our league mates have the same sentiment.

I do feel the need to speak to Chief and aware him of this. Don't worry, you two make L2 what it is-and everything will work itself out.

Hey BV, just checking in for the first time in awhile, and I see my old Astros are quite the popular topic of discussion ;)

FYI coach, I was here for 4 seasons, and gave the team to blue hen, a very active member of O2 and a baseball enthusiast. I'm sorry it didn't work out for ya, but it seems Dave has brought this team under solid ownership. Oh yeah, and I won 2 div titles(seasons 2 and 4, NOT season 1 ;))

BV, how did that World Series end up going? I only left because all signs pointed to that being the last season. Plus, I have SmallWorld and College Hoops teams to run :) If I'd have known we'd get another season, I would have stayed for sure. Sorry about that.

I'm glad to see the fighting didn't stop after I left ;) Also nice to see this league's intensity and activity has picked up...it was fairly dead for awhile there...probably because I was stopping the amicable discourse with my imposing presence ;)

Hope to see you in the chatroom during baseball season, Synocco...

I remember you guys saying that you were aware of the GRT, but I never saw any trades that made me think you had used it to gain an advantage. I figured the accuser would name the Cubs or the Royals as the evil GRT users since we have been the best teams for several seasons, but I like to think we have kept our teams competitive through good managing, trading and drafting. I know you guys put alot of time into this game, as I do, and I take pride in keeping my team at the top. It never fails though, someone will always accuse the good teams of cheating.

LOL! Believe me, it's not pride I'm feeling! Damn Yankees is not far from the truth when he says that some of the crap is hardly worth paying money for. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed GSB immensely. But the last day of feeling being "on trial" has put a damper on things. I should be celebrating my World Series win and rejoicing over the fact that Carmody will remain a Cub. Instead, I spent time poring over my minor league roster, wondering if the guys who look like they're overachieving will be used as "evidence" against me! Worrying if there might be a 3-star hitter in there who will crack 450 and damn my reputation. Joe McCarthy indeed!

I've been thinking about the Martinez bid and it does seem feesable that someone could bid 21M, if he was a minor league player then it would be acceptable (although still a very high price),so i guess that him being a ML player doesn't make that much difference, simply 21M + signing bonus over a season or a straight 21M if in the minors, a bit too high for me but clearly an acceptable price for someone.

Some teams have upward of 200,000,000 so 21 million barely makes a dent.

Has anyone heard anything from the commish on when the site is switching to pay. He has been next to invisible on the boards due to his project I would assume.

I am definitely leaning towards taking my C3 Mets in favor of my L2 team because I just can't get the starting pitching I so desperately need.

Major offseason move between the Cubs and the Orioles

A huge deal between the Cubs and the Orioles have just shook up the once quite offseason. The trade sees Jason Baker, a hot shot RP prospect and second round draftee Edgar Renteria coming to the windy city. In return, Orioles receive a long time Cubbie, Jim Duffy, veteran 3B Will Polidor, and OF prospect Gregg Jefferies.

Duffy:"I have heard some rumors about us getting Baker from the Orioles, it just suprised me that I was part of the package. I will miss being a Cub, but I got a job to do in Baltimore. Hopefully I can help them reach the playoffs." Some critics argue that trading home-grown fan favorite Duffy is a very bad PR move, but the Cubs GM believed that its a move they had to make. "we felt that the need of a good RP that can replace Negrette is critical to our future success. Baker is the man that can handle that type of responsibility."

Duffy and Polidor were instrumental players in the past Cubs success, but after the maturation of Zosky and Hamilton they became expandable.

Baltimore is trying to take advantage of the "group retirement" that the Yankees have just experienced and end the dominance streak the yanks have held for the last 7-8 years.
