0 Subject: Alternative to GSB...

Well guys I know some of you are going to pay, and some are not for GSB. I'm still debating what I'm going to do, but I think I've found an alternative to try for a while.

CSFBL Is a game like GSB, it looks a little less advanced graphically, but it has much more categories for hitter stats (such as powerhitting, discipline etc.)

Now I know a couple people from the Chatroom have signed up for "Homeless Division V" So if you want to join us trying to figure this out you are more than welcome.

I looked at it for about 5 mins. just started a team in an empty league to see what it is like. i will look at it for later in the week and over the weekend, but i doubt it is as good as gsb. we will see though. I did like the extra skills that the pitchers and hitters had. gsb could add something like that though. those of us who are going to play could give the commish ideas, and now that he isn't spending so much time on maintaing the site, he will probably focus on those kind of improvements.

I joined the Homeless V league with my team, I have no clue how to manage the ratings, now what they mean, but it seems cool so far, when i get more time on a weekend I will look into building another dynasty as in GSB hahahah...

I haven't seen anywhere dealing with any kind of transactions (trading, Free Agents...)

I don't think it has the aspect of player improvement or farm systems or drafts. It does have some pretty cool features though..

I got this email from the commish....

-------------------------------------------------
Your unwanted teams were deleted.

Thanks for the kind words. Just so you know, I will never charge for
this
game. (That doesn't mean there won't be advertising, it just means I
won't
charge for accessing the game.)

The difficulties creating teams in the current game will be greatly
replaced
in the next version. Here's a sneak peek to some features you may like:

* Experimental team creation, allowing you to experiment with test
teams
before making real ones.
* Teams are not automatically active - they must be activated by you
before
they join a division.
* Divisions are dynamic and geographic, based on your region.
First-come
first-serve ensures that a division fills up quickly and starts its
season
as soon as possible. (Currently, there is no explicit "season" mode...)
* Exhibition games (before your season starts), regular season games
(160
game seasons), and two weeks of playoffs (two 5-game series) determine
the
winner of a division. Top team in a division will jump to a new league
-
Amateur, SemiPro, Pro, All-Star, perhaps. The idea is that every time
you
win your division, you get a bump to the next higher league, offering
more
competitive play. (It'll take a while before we get THAT far, but
that's the
idea...)
* Complete aging, retirement, team news, strange happenings, and other
weird
stuff!
* Free agent lists and the ability to trade players with other teams.
* Better sim engine with more realistic baseball occurrences (double
plays,
balks, wild pitches, tagging up, all that fun stuff).
* "Defensive overrides" and errors - defenders have a chance to make
errors
(outs becoming hits), or overriding a hit to an out (stealing a hit).
* "Color Commentary" - instead of drab play by plays, you'll be able to
read
stuff like this:

Top 1: Davis singles. Gossage flies out. Martinez strikes out. Smith
flies
out.

OR THIS:

Top of the first.
-----------------
- Davis hits a soft blooper over second base - he's got a cheap single
on
that one!
- Gossage hits a hard fly ball to right, but O'Neill's under it for the
out.
- Martinez looks foolish taking that called third strike!
- Smith hits a rocket to dead center field! Williams is on his horse.
He
dives! Holy cow, what a catch!

Makes things more interesting. Occasioally the color guys will say
silly
things, too:

- You know, the last time I saw a catch like that I was knee deep in
skunk
scent.

Just to keep people paying attention... :-)

Anyway, lofty goals. I'll probably be asking people to contribute color
commentary ideas when I get to that point, so stay tuned for details.

Hopefully I'll be able to get back to working on the beta next week (my
"real job" has been busy, and I came down with the flu this week, so
I've
had to slow down a bit), but I have lots of work done on paper which
should
make things easier in the long run.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy the highlights I've
mentioned
above!

Sounds like this game is still in the infant stages, but looks like he has it headed in the right direction. Do you guys think I should steer him over to GSB before it becomes a pay site, so he can get some more ideas?

How do I find this Homeless V league? I only see Homeless leagues II, III, IV? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It should be there, just at the bottom of the league list....

Perhaps it is full? Maybe I am looking at a different page? I see a page with say 10 leagues I can choose but none being Homeless V...my bet is it is filled up already. If this is the case, anyone interested in starting another league?

No matter what names I choose I keep getting this message.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'

Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'UQ__teams__30F848ED'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'teams'.

/fnc_createteam.asp, line 56

I'll keep trying later.

I got that message too, but repeated trying got me in. Email the commish over there. He responded within 2 days with a lengthy email.

Games started in League V, and my squad is 3-1 so far. Game looks pretty cool, but I don't think it is near as complex as GSB. This game is in the early stages though.
