0 Subject: M2 Season 9 The Koontzless league !!

Well tonight free agency should be over and we will be ready for another exciting season of M2 baseball. If you have been reading the boards then I'm sure you are aware of the merger of whoever is staying in M2 with I think P2 and some other teams. From what I know it's me, Sanfran but might not be his M2 team, LTA, Shoeless Joe Jackson, David Helson, Buchster, Baldwin, St. Luis Psychos. If you are staying please let us know !! I think I have a great chance to go to the playoffs this season. My Hitting has gotten better and I had no retirements there. I had one retirement in my SP Milicki but he was going to be a FA anyway and I replaced him with someone my my Minors. Hopefully my pitching can stand up cause I am sure my offense will be able to score some runs. If anyone has a Stud starting pitcher I will give up alot for one. So lets get ready to rumble in what may be M2's last season before the merger !!

I'm glad that there are a few people in that league with morals that are voting against the others. The person that's pissing me off the most is Timing. First he wants to hang LTA for using GRT, and now he makes lopsided trades and wants to trade other members his prospects so that when the new league starts they can trade them back to his other team. What a f***ing hypocrite.

Howdy all, I am not going to comment much on what Timing proposed. I don't know if he was even serious because I couldn't and wouldn't consider it for a second.

You would have to go back to our second thread of season 9 to understand the trades. I don't think that thread says P2 in it, just "Season 9 and no merger talk" or something like that. It all started when I signed on and had a huge trade proposed to me by the Dodgers. After I accepted what I thought was a fair trade but definitely one in my teams favor, a couple guys moaned about it. Then the Dodgers sends out an email telling everyone he will trade any of his prospects and/or cash for stud players to help him win the series.

The Psycho One can attest to that.

By and far they have all been "fair" trades for a team trying to win the series and others deciding to rebuild. The one that still has me shaking my head was mentioned in this thread, but Timing also explained that in our third thread of the season. Norton's contract is outrageously high and he was going to recoup some of his money or something like that.

As far as I know he doesn't even plan on bringing his P2 team, so it could have just been strategy on his part to insure the rest of us didn't "milk" anything else out of the Dodgers.

WiddleAvi, post #98......we will kick their asses anyway.....really has me laughing. We talk like that in our threads too. Once the merger happens we are all of one league and it will read, "TB will kick all of our asses"

hehehe

I wish the commish would just *poof* end all seasons at once and make the merge happen. I am pretty excited to get it started and see how it plays out. Even with my smack talking, I know I don't have a great team. I look forward to making some trades and getting to know all the "new" managers in our merge.

As we get closer to this happening we need someone from each league to keep tabs on everyones final record. We can let the commish know how we want the first draft to be set up. In all fairness, I suggest the team with the worst record from the division with the most teams coming in, then worst record from division with second most and on and on. All rogue teams can be put near the end of the pack with WS winners and losers from each league.

Trust me, I will be drafting near the bottom to start with and in extreme humility, I imagine that trend to continue each year.

=)

Forgot to add:

Yearly: $48,550,333
Weekly: $3,034,395
Highest Salary Player: Randy Brown
His Yearly salary: $5,652,000
His Weeekly salary: $353,250

I know I have two players going to FA, bringing my salary down to 45.3 million and have two guys at age 35 who could/should retire bringing it down to 36.14 million. That would make my weekly salary just under 2.26 million.

I have a couple so-so SP that I am using for RP. I should sign them to long term contracts just because I think there will be a need for 5th starters in the league. I think I will hold off and just hope this is our last season.

"By and far they have all been "fair" trades for a team trying to win the series and others deciding to rebuild. "

The thing that bothers me most about this is that the Dodgers owner is not keeping his team after GSB goes to a paysite. Therefore he doesn't care what he gives up, as long as he can get some people that will help him for the next season or two. This is exactly what the commish did not want to happen, people trading their players away before they quit. Honestly, look at that trade and tell me how the hell that is fair to everyone else going into this merger. Let's see, we give up an overpriced pitcher for a better, younger pitcher, 3 good-very good prospects, and $45,000,000. Yeah that sounds fair.

I won't argue it. I don't agree with that particular trade but I also don't think Timing is even bringing that team. I think he is doing the same thing St Loius Psychos is doing by not making trades. Making sure nobody else gets those players or that cash.

Go read the entire thread if you want to understand it better. I BUTTed them up into order.

......Let's see, we give up an overpriced pitcher for a better, younger pitcher...That is yet to be proven. I normally always trade my prospects for proven vets. Great prospects look good on paper. Great MLB players win championships.

.....3 good-very good prospects, and $45,000,000... What prospects look good to you other than the SP? 45million is a drop in the bucket for some teams. You and many other teams spent their money on NL players, in trades, Free Agency, or signing big contracts. The Dodgers owner is shooting his wad to win one on the way out. Whether or not you and I think that is fair is debatable.

I have two teams I am not keeping and I have made many trades to bolster my line-up and make a run for it. Knowing that I will not have that team in a season or two made that decision easy. Would it be better if I stuck to my 5 year building plan knowing I will get to rebuild for maybe the next two years before I lose the team?

You have your best interest in mind and the Dodgers owner has his. It would be easy for me to agree with you and run to the commish and complain about it. I said I wasn't going to argue it and looks like I just did. Do you think I should transfer one of my teams to the one in this league and make sure I sign Sims to a long term contract so he doesn't become a FA?

We gotta play the hands dealt to us. Personally, I am not worried about how it all falls out. If it becomes completely unfair or there are stacked teams then you or I or anyone who wants to quit, is out 3 bucks. I just spent ten times that for dinner tonight.

I forgot to mention that the "old overpaid" pitcher that he obtained has the 7th best ERA in the majors for SP's that aren't currently on that Dodgers team. His 3.73 ERA goes along with giving up 64 hits in 70 innings and 55k's. Two of his three losses were to my AL East leading Orioles prior to being traded to the NL. That means he is 4-1 against other teams. If I was that one player away from winning it all, yes, I would make the same trade.

Lol. I get a bit cocky when my Raiders have a good season.

I posted this on our newest P2 thread:

Since I traded Magee and Negrette to the Dodgers four weeks ago his record is 12-4. Magee has accounted for 23 runs/rbi's(I was counting seperately but then mixed them up) in that time frame and has the second highest average on his team year to date. His .401 OBP and .463 SLG are up there with league leaders and are both second for team highs as well.

Negrette has even outplayed Magee. He has had 11 of his seasons 21 appearences with the Dodgers with 3 wins and 3 saves and 4 other appearances were he preserved the lead in fine fashion. He had one appearance where his team was losing and he had no effect on the game. A total of 26 innings pitched. He is currently second in the league for qualifying pitchers with a 2.93 ERA.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I made a fair trade to the Dodgers and one that I will regret if I don't win the WS. In every league I am in I see several teams with beautiful farm systems. In a perfect world, you have a great minor league system and win championships. If I gotta choose between the two, I would trade a bunch of prospects for the players I need to win a championship today.
Heck, I tried it before with that same Orioles team. My salary has been up to 80-85 million and as low as 35-36 million. I lost in the play-offs to the Royals in 6 when I tried to buy a WS. I also lost both "studs" acquired to retirement. I just missed out on the post season with my "best" GSB team, Z2 Royals. Stacked from top to bottom and a 90 million payroll. It's a weak league and I have built a monster team that tends to underachieve every 3-4 seasons. No matter how great your line-up is, the games still gotta be played.
Wow, has this board gotten active the last couple of days. Dang. Yes, the Dodgers in P2 did send out a message saying he would trade any of his prospects for MLB Talent in order to win this seasons WS, because he is not playing in the merger league. God, I so wish he wouldn't have done that.
Season salary: 50,593,666
Weekly Salary: 3,162,104
LOL! Apparently some M2'ers are too STUPID to recognize the difference between GRT and trading of prospects. I'm not surprised actually since some of you dummasses allow GRT without knowing the vast damage it causes a league. Talk about morals. Let's see, we're discussing different things and ideas while you people have actually been doin this crap for who knows how long. Morals... pffft. Some of you have built up monster franchises with cheap ass free agent contracts in your weak ass league while we have a much more balanced league where free agents are bid to death. Okaaaaaaaaaaay. "Dumbass M2 league! lol I can't wait to join those dumbasses and start kickin their ass. Not only are they dumbasses but they're stupid too... who knew!? I do fear we're joining a bunch of weak ass leagues. We have more dialogue in 2 days then they have every stinkin month. Buncha ninnies... "
This is so funny, first they impose a double standard, then he or she insults or league because we have lifes and don't sit our fat asses on the computer all day and think of ways to rant and rave about grandslambaseball which must be there life because they take it wayyyyyyy to seriously. Maby spend less time bitching and running your mouth and more time enjoying the game and you wouldnt lead such a sorryfull meaningless life. But hey he'll come back with some witty remark and claim we all cheat when M2 rules supreme in the new league. I came into League B3 and started working on it. But I was in M2 first and decided that I only wanted one team. Nothing to do with backing out or anything. I came into M2 and had a horrible team. It tooks me about 7 seasons to build this team. I have no problem taking on a bad team I just didn't have time to manage 2 teams !! Timing you keep talking your trash We'll just see what happens when anyone from M2 plays you
That's the same question I have been asking about anyone who is already in P2, M2 or R2. Especially those who have had their team for 5 or more seasons. Doesn't matter really, good managers will build winners and bad managers will continue to draft high or quit.
Yeah Widdle but who runs B3? C'mon, say it man. Who backs it up?
The pricing will probably decide whether I bring my P2 team. P2 is basically still a rebuilding team and I have other teams that I enjoy much more. That's the really funny part about this whole noise from M2. I'm probably not even bringing my P2 team so the trade most of you are crying over doesn't mean a thing to the team I'll be bringing.
Timing.....I have no idea who was good in B3. I was in it for a short while but never really kept up with it. I would pop in, see how my team did and rank the draft. I never payed attention to who won the WS or anything. You may have been the best in B3 but I really don't know. I have one question for you timing, Had you been able to figure out GRT would you just have ignored it or used it ?? Honestly. There is only 1 guy in M2 who did use GRT and that was LTA (Mets). I have not seen any trades that were unfair in our league. There may have been some trades that you can wonder why did he do that but if asked the owner was able to explain. I have not seen any trades in P2 either that I would call unfair. But how can you scream about GRT yet bring up trading players so you can stack your team for the merger ??
I gotta tell you, this thread is getting amusing. I only wish I had the kind of time to dedicate to these debates as some people do... :-)
The bottom line here is, for the first few seasons, the stacked teams are going to be tough to beat. But after we've all been together for a while, it's going to be anybody's game, so let's all stop the crying about GRT, and unbalanced trades, and play the game. Let's enjoy the 162-game season, have fun with any additions that the Commish can put into place, thank God that Brian Koontz isn't in our league anywhere to pollute the bulletin boards, and develop ourselves into the best damn league in GSB. Let's have an active website, let's vote on annual awards, all of the stuff that makes this the best interactive baseball sim on the 'net.
Why can't we all just get along? And no crying once the merger happens about "Well, his team was stacked to start out with"...all that means is crappy draft picks for the first few years to even out the field.
Let's play ball!!!
Hello M2ers - I post regularly in the P2 thread and I have to agree with you that the Norton trade by Timing's Rangers was probably the most lopsided trade ever made in our league.
We spent a couple days on that trade with Timing trying to explain how the trade was a good one and it benifited his team only slightly.
Of course, I disagreed wholeheartedly and believe that trades like that should not be allowed by the Commish.
As far as the swap-and-swap-back proposal...that wasn't even accepted by the league as a whole and as far as I know we won't even be doing that. Trade deadline is tonight so I can't see it happening.
Just wanted to give the M2 folks some thoughts from a P2 guy besides TB and Timing
I have never been this happy with a split. After what the RedSox did to me last time I played him a split is definitly acceptable. The WhiteSox closed my lead to 6 games . If I can come away with a split from the Indians and then win at least one game in the following series with the WhiteSox then I should be fine as I close the season against the Mariners. Funny thing, check out the league stats and you will see that the Braves with the 2nd to worst batting avg. have the second most HR in the league after the Mets. In the AL the Mariners with the worst BA in the league also have one of the most HR's in the AL !!
If I figured this out right...with my 3 games to 1 win over the Indians my magic number is down to 2. I play the WhiteSox tonight and if I split then I win. If I win any 2 games over the final 8 then I win the division. A shame that Glavine had to get his first loss of the season. He has been having a career year for me.
Frustrating season for the White Sox this year...split the season series with the Mariners (no way that should happen) and lost by shutout 5 or 6 times (including multiple 1-0 losses). What a nightmare the second half of the season has been for me.
1) I had a mind snap and got preoccupied the day of the draft and ended up with only pitchers ranked and that was preliminary only. Besides my first draft this was my first wasted draft so it's not enuff to sway my decision to stay on after we go pay-per-play.
2) My cable internet service (@home) goes out for a week which didn't really hurt in GSB but meant I didn't get in HOOPS midseason. [at least I got back online before the signing deadline]
3) My batters finally get it going but then my pitchers start ignoring their stats. Got swept twice, swept someone else, my two ace relievers start giving up four runs every inning...someone wake me from this nightmare.
Talk about a steal Sanfran, John Hernandez 5 years and just over 15 million !!! Does the SIM decide salaries based on age or preformance or both ?? He should be asking for 8-10 million a year !!
Hey i know, that is dirt cheep, Im paying Hinch like triple that. Its a shame that i wont have this Hernadez in the new merger league, but i got Hernadez on my other team too, just not with the carrer numbers Hernadez has here.
I think the Sim decides salaries based on the combination of a player's four important ratings. AVG, HR, GAP, SPD for hitters and FB, Breaking, Chang, and Control for pitchers. I think that age factors in somehow also. I just signed Dave Evans for 5yr, 19 mil. His numbers are 321, 487, 464, 414. Hernadez has numbers of 458, 479, 265, 313 and signed for 5yr, 15 mil. Even though his low GAP doesn't really effect his performance much, it is low enough to bring down his salary. Quite a steal I might say. Hinch on the other hand has 493, 445, 479, 362. His first two categories are comparable to Hernandez, but his gap is way higher, causing his salary to rise.
