As many posts as we have seen the past few days, a new thread is born. Chalk up another WS for the NL. I also plan on winning the bet with Brock this season. No more of this push BS.

By the way, that was hardly smack-talk between PP and myself. We were just explaining each other's thoughts on a couple trades I proposed. The only thing that could have been confused as smack was when he called my guys "old" which is not really that bad (they are 33 and 36 so they are "older")

worm - Why is someone with more than 1 piercing so much worse than someone with 1? (I don't have any by the way)

i forgot to add cowboys and horse riders to that list too.
well it just depends on the piercings whitey. i go to the mall and see people with like 5 piercings per ear, three in the brow of the eye nose rings, lip rings and they expect not to get some looks and or snickers.
if they want to do that to their bodies that is fine with me, but dont get pissed just cause i stare and laugh. because i am going to do that, they obviously want attention and they are going to get it from me.

The schedule is screwed up. It showed me on top of the Yankees (we had a one game play-off); Therefore I have ended up with the 1st place schedule. I actually emailed the commish about it but I doubt he gives a damn or changes it.

I should be playing the Braves and Stros (8 easy wins) instead of the Dodgers and Mets (6 wins at worse)

I noticed that the Mets pick before me though I only won 39 games, I'm sure they won 42 or so. I guess the sim knows that the NL is the weaker league so they just put the Mets before me to compensate. =)

TB - Assuming 6 wins against the Dodgers and Mets??? I think the Dodgers are just as good this season as last. Mets didn't lose too much either.

I love having a last place schedule...

Whitey, you act like it is a big deal with a last place schedule. you have to play the othe rtop 7 teams in the league 2 times no matter where you end up. it is not a big deal. The bottom 8 teams all just happen to be in the other league, which makes the last place schedule have little effect on either league. because even the number one seed from the AL is outmatched when they play the number 8 seeded NL team.

Jeez, Wammie...enough of that already. I think we can all agree that as our league stands right now the Dodgers, Rangers, Orioles and Mets are the best 4 teams and you can maybe add in the Yankees also.

The Astros suck (with or without Nick Johnson)...as do the Cardinals

I can agree that the Cardinals suck. I like my spot as the underdog. Nick Johnson was not a make or break move. Who ever was bidding on him, probably wanted him, and now he can't have him. plus he is a decent hitter.

the worm likes his chances on the upcoming schedule. i have brock tonight, more than likely a sweep my way or 3-1 my way. then the cardinals and 'stros at home. we all know what they can accomplish. so i like my chances of starting out the year. and yeah, brock and whitey i am looking past you two for the astros. i remember wammie talking a lot of smack after i split with him last season.

TEAM AGE AVG HMR GAP SPD AGE FST BRK CHG CON
STROS 30 464 390 324 378 27 410 415 389 424
CARDS 29 456 323 404 377 27 449 375 376 430

Hmmm...I guess if the Cards suck then the Astros definitely do suck as well since the ratings are damn similar overall...

On paper, your team is slightly better than mine..the AVG rating difference is barely noticable, you have a large advantage in HR power and I have an even bigger advantage in GAP. SPD rating is basically the same for both. So our offenses should produce fairly even numbers.

For pitching, I have a fastball and control advantage and you have a breaking ball and change advantage..Where is the obvious advantage your team has. I am just saying it is pretty close on paper.

worm - Even if my team is going to be bad I will still finish ahead of the Cubs because you wil have an entire season to 'f' up that team...

my team is better because GAP and HR don't mean nearly as much as AVG. a hitter who has an average of 464 is far better than a hitter with 456. Homer are player by player, if a guy has a rating of 200 or 300, they produce the same. not unless your guy has a rating of 430 or better is the homer really even a factor. same with gap.

I am over 400 in three pitching cats to your 2, that is another way I am obviously better. I am going to be trading Brad Clontz though, most likely that is, and that will cause my average pitching numbers to go down some.

Whitey - looks like Grub is already in the process of making his team worse. He made a good move by getting a catcher from Wammie but his other 2 moves were dumb. I'm predicting another last place finish for him.

Wammie - I know you believe everything you hear but what facts do you have about HR not mattering unless it's 430+? Just because someone said it, doesn't mean it's true and I have guys with a 200+ HR that hit 1 or 2 a year and guys with 350+ hit about 7 or 8. I think it matters.

Wammie - You can twist the numbers any way you like, it still comes out that your team is slightly better than mine, not overwhelmingly better, "on paper".

A 464 AVG hitter is not far better than a 455 AVG hitter, he is only slightly better (like comparing a .275 hitter to a .284 hitter). I'm just going by the facts, I'm not trying to crunch the numbers to my advantage here..

worm -How does your team stack up?

AVG 459
HMR 307
GAP 345
SPD 372
FST 408
BRK 404
CHG 386
CON 405

You're team actually looks worse than I thought they would be...

Brock - I really don't see how worm got ripped off. If anything, it's just another case of somebody taking advantage of the Dodgers because they will not be going to the pay site.

Matt Ryan isn't that good to get4 or 5 players + cash inreturn for him...

I think the Ryan deal was a steal for Sanchez. It's quality, not quantity. All the players Sanchez gave up were average at best. Ryan will be a good pitcher. I would have given up a lot more than Sanchez did to get Ryan.

Brock - A steal?

Ryan 473 499 335 412
Has some nice ratings, but he may very well be done improving after 6 years pro.

His overall numbers are better than Verdugo, but many times I have seen a pitcher with 3 great categories and 1 not so good category put up less-than-stellar numbers. I think the sim likes pitchers who have EVERY category close to or above 400.

In that case, Verdugo is no slouch: 425 397 391 406

Throw in Travis 468 421 469 320 and
Romano 399 486 450 375

and you have some nice players in return for Ryan. He also got two other "average" players in the deal from the Dodgers. How can you call it a steal for the Dodgers?

Now Wammie's trade was a rip-off. Way to rob him Timing. I can't wait to shell Springer. I doubt if Scott makes his ML squad and if he does, it's BP for me. Wammie, you should have gotten a lot more than that for him. The AL got stronger and the NL got weaker. Looks like it's down to a 2 man race for the NL West between me and Sanchez.

Whitey - maybe you can't tell the difference between high 400's and barely 400. Travis will have a lot of control problems. If I recall, he has bad historical #'s anyway. Like I said, I would have given up more than that for Ryan.

Clontz is an animal, but I got some better hitting and improved my starting pitching. Also, Clontz goes to the American league to the Rangers where I would only have to face him in the WS. Plus I was damn close to going bankrupt. Now I am not.

Octopussy, Octopussy, Octopussy,
I was just starting some smack talk with the NL. I don't take any teams for granted.

I started to do some preseason rankings and analysis. Got my ribs cracked up a bit yesterday playing some football and think I will be home most of the week. I have 6 NL teams done(still have to do the Mets and Padres) but the site is acting goofy now. I will finish them up and start a new season 10 thread. I will say that only the Astros and Dodgers look like contenders so far.

Peeking at the AL, the Rangers look like the best team, by far. The Yankees have some sticks but only for average, no power and no pitching. The abandoned Royals are missing some pitching and hitting. The O's look very average and the Indians have added some hitters to become an "average" team.

Full analysis will be out at some point today.

Well damn, I guess I should have refreshed window before I posted last. Now I have to go back and relook at Astros. I had them rated higher because I was going to offer him Glaus, Rangel and Thompson for Clontz.

I will relook at teams but it does sound like Timing became even stronger while the Stro's might have became weaker in their pen. If Slocumb decides to perform at his ratings then maybe his pen will be okay.

I'm glad I we were able to get a deal done Wammie, thanks. You can always bet that when Timing is quiet there is a lil somethin somethin in the works.

I'm also glad to add a bullpen hammer like Clontz to my team. Now I have Clontz to go along with Oropresa and Miller. If I don't have the best bullpen in the league now I'd hate to see who does. The Rangers are shooting for the title in a major way.

I regret having to give up the 497 average guy but you have to give up quality to get quality.

I agree with Brock on the Cubs trades. Worm is working his destructive magic once again. First he pays $10 million for a catcher, though I'm sure everyone knows you can play anyone at catcher without a problem. Then he trades Ryan for Verdugo, a scrub, and a guy just signed through free agency. You have to wonder if he wanted Travis why in the heck didn't he just sign him for himself!?!? Doh!

I still have him rated higher than the Cards. I am looking at each team by position and who will be starting for them. You have some solid OF but your entire infield is weak. Your starting pitching is weak. If you put Adkins back into the pen your BP is one of the strongest but will be one of the most used.

I hated to give up Clontz, but I had to do something to at least give myself a chance at the Dodgers. I feel my pitching is weakened, but my starters are better. I hope my sp's can go long into games to make the loss of Clontz not hurt so much.

I think it was a pretty good trade for both of us. I really wanted to get Clontz out of the National League if possible, and I was able to do that too.
