Ok, I read some things and experimented with my roster. First, i saw this on another message board: a way to evaluate your team. SCALE 2:exc 1:good 0:fair -1:poor -2:none
I used this to rate my starters, bench players and overall team. As a result I noticed my team is not as good as I thought. But they are not as bad as i thought either.
Last year i had one main scorer and rest of my team play defense. resulting in Lower scoring games. More wins
But this year I have more people shooting, less defense. Higher scoring games and more loses
Next observation, Coaching.
Upbeat-More turnovers, more offense. -one or two main players shoot more -one or two players shoot less. -one or two high scorers, rest of players low to average scoring- better rebounds, steals
Slow down-Less turnovers, more defense. -two to three players shoot more -more spreading the ball around, resulting in more players scoring avg amount of pts. More rebounds and lower final scores
I think that if you have someone shoot less the concentrate more on other aspects of the game so you may want one or two shooters and the rest shoot less to balance out offense and defense.
I am still experimenting. I would like to hear your comments on this for those who play the game.
Thanks, axp113

I don't really put to much weight in the +/- system. Take a 6-0 guy with ratings F F F E F F and another with F F G F G F.
The first is utterly worthless, and the 2nd can be a starting PG(or a very solid backup), yet both are +2's.
By position, this is what I like:
PG - hands, int
SG - shooting, hands
SF - shooting, int
PF - rebounding
C - shooting, rebounding
And, obviously, you'd like defense and athleticism at every position, and it doesn't really matter where the shooters are(except for PG, they tend to take less shots).
As far as up tempo vs slow down goes, my only advice is to experiment, experiment, experiment. My team is 28-5 in slow tempo, and 0-6 otherwise, so you can guess which tempo I like to run :)
One piece of advice, players get tired. Know which players tend to suffer let downs in the 2nd half, and sub them more often to keep them fresh. A good bench is very important if you want to be a championship level team.

BTW, I think the opposite is true as far as # of scorers in each tempo is concerned...
In an up beat style, shots are taken quicker, therefore scoring is more spread out.
In a slow down style, they find the best matchup(ie, the guys on shoot more) and those guys takethe majority of the shots.
