0 Subject: L2 Season 11 - The Final Frontier

Posted by: skinneej
- [22235410] Fri, Mar 23, 21:07

This will definitely be the last season for L2, as we should be placed into the merger league within the next week or two. Season 10 was a good season, mainly because my Royals were able to beat the perennial champion Chicago Cubs for my second title in six tries. I really had low expectations for the team because I felt it was my worst team in years. Go figure. We might make it to the draft, but several teams have joined the last few days, and we'll have to see if any of them rank their drafts. I'm guessing few will, however.

The offseason was interesting. After last years Tino Martinez "scandal" (sic) I found it odd that several players were signed to high one year deals. It appears on the surface that some teams might be confused as none of those players fell into the same category as Martinez. Upon further review, the Yanks signed several of these players probably because they are not taking this team into the merger. I guess they were hoping to keep those players from other teams, since it is doubtful we will finish this season. I'll reserve judgement on this action for now.

Well, as we are awaiting the merger there are some valid questions regarding player's ages and years played that have been asked (but I don't think the Commish has answered them yet). Since we are beginning a new season, if a player turns a year older and then a "new" season is begun when the merger takes place, does that player lose part of a year or will it be reset? The same goes for years played. It is wise to hold good AAA players back since there is no real reason to bring them up unless they will turn 30 early in the season. I guess it's just a waiting game for now.

You guys really laid out the cash. I was a little more conservative this time, but was pretty happy with what I got. The price of the top guys has gotten so expensive, and since only 1 in 3 really turns out to be a star, I figured I'd save some money. I think my top bid was 7 million, which was "slightly" topped. I'm ready for this merger to happen so we can really get down to business.

I have to be conservative because of all my FA signings. I only bid on 4 players with 5mil being the high.

We really liked Brink because we see a future for him as a starter. I guess $16 million was a bit excessive given what you guys actually bid, but we were burned by being too conservative last year. If even 2 of those guys we picked up today turn out to be studs then I will be satisfied.

Unbelievable...that is a lot of talent from the Northern League. I see quite a few potential stars...In C3 there were about 5 worthwile players. I think I over spent considering that cash is relatively tight with that team. Too bad I can't carry over the 185,000,000 million I have with my L2 Mets...

Hey, sorry to intrude on you guys. I was just wondering for about how much talent would Mike Bell be worth from you guys to acquire him? (To those going forth in the merger league)

He's a 29 year old SP, with numbers of 497-409-410-438, with a 25 million contract over 4 years.

I am going to move him by the time the merger comes along, but was wondering about what the feelers from some of the new teams coming into the H2/L2 merger would be at.

Just curious...

That is a front of the rotation pitcher ideally a number 2 starter but could work as a number one if need be.

It really depends on what you were looking for. I always try to cater to what my trading partner needs and move from there.

For argument sake, lets say you want prospects of any kind. I would probably let a top hitting prospect (4 star hr, 4 star avg) good pitching prospect (400+ fb 10 star total) and another 4 star avg (low other categories)

That is about what I would be willing to spend for him.

Forgive any spelling or punctuation mistakes here-I am really tired. I just hope it makes sense.

Hmm, I think Synocco and I are more than willing to try get Mike Bell II into our rotation. We are a couple of very aggressive traders and at times we are known to over pay for things we really want. My bet is that there will be a huge bidding war if a guy of Bells calibre is being offered.

Hmmm... so a 485 AVG 1B, and 3 400-400-400-400 potential RP's would be nothing compared to what you would be willing to give up?

I'm looking for a strong 1B, and maybe a decent young SP plus some pitching prospects to make the move.

In H2, Bell is one of the best SP's in the league, competing with the Mark Gardners, Scott Downs' and Brian Carmody's at times for best in the league.

I actually had one of the owners who just came into our division send me a trade offer. I declined it, not because it wasn't a good offer, but I didn't think it was in the best interest of our league since this team will not be going into the merger. Anybody else feel the same way, or would one of you be willing to trade with teams like this?

At this juncture, I think it would be in everyone's best interests if there was no trading with teams that aren't going into the merger since those teams won't even exist in a week (if all goes well).

I wonder what the L2 White Sox are doing. He seems pretty oblivious to league happenings, though he acts as it he's sticking around.

According to the Commish's new message, we will continue through next Friday which will be week 13. That means we will get to complete one last draft and get past the trade deadline. To add to the trade restrictions we imposed on ourselves, I would like to note that only 5 teams (Dodgers, Astros, Cubs, Orioles and Royals) are taking their current teams into the merger. Something that has come up in another league is where a manager who is not taking a team into a merger (but is taking another team from a different division) will trade a player to a team that is going into the merger with the agreement to make a return trade once the new league forms. Not that anyone is planning to do this, but maybe we should have some discussion on it so there is no problem.

My initial position is that we should not allow this, but I am open to discussion. I think the biggest problem is determining what constitutes a fair transfer. The team that is facilitating the transaction could get a better deal and not have to give up any players of value. I just think it opens up for potential misdeeds.

I think this opens up a whole can of worms that we should avoid. Essentially, this is like trading with yourself, which has the potential for great abuse.

Good, then it is agreed and we should have no problems. Here is what I understand from the message last night regarding player's age and contracts. Player X was 29 years old in week 1 and had 0 years ML experience. He was brought up to the ML club because he would turn 30 in week 6 and you don't want him to decline in ratings. When we end this season in week 13 and are transfered to the merger league, the player's age will go back to what it was in week 1. I would think the Years Pro and ML service of all players would also revert to week 1, but that is not spelled out as clearly (and may not be the case in fact). A 29 year old rookie may return to his age at the start of the season, but then be a 2nd year player (thus making 300k) when the new league begins. For a player that is not under the rookie contract, the contract will count for this season. If a player has a 2 year 10 Million contract, then he would only have a 1 year 5 mil contract when the new league starts. If a player is currently a FA after this season and you do not re-sign him, then he probably disappears into the great beyond as I doubt they would transfer. Any other insights or comments?

Hey guys it was a joke. Trading players to be traded back is very much like the old trading free agents and trading them back thing we have been through. I think this waiting game is taking people's sense of humor away. Everybody just wants to get on with it.

Skineej: I thought contract for players were updated at the end of each year, so a player with 6 year deal should still have a 6 year deal in the merged league right? I could be wrong though:)

Following Timing's lead, I think we should post some tradeable players/prospects once the pay site gets underway. Since not everyone in our merged league checks rotoguru, I am going to post it on the H2 board. This may be jumping the gun a bit, but I love to trade, and I am really anticipating April 11th...

The METS had a solid draft while the YANKS had a weak one in my opinion. Somehow I got almost all ST and RP. I ranked alot of hitters high on my draft board But obviously my draft expert decided to pick pitchers only. Maybe he choked or was he a genius?

Yeah, Dave and I began working on it over a week a go, but getting ready for the baseball season took all my time so it got put off. I had to fill a few holes and he was looking for a young pitching prospect, so we were able to work something out. Two more nights until L2 is no more.

One note to report, current KC manager Tony Muser will not be relocating with the team to Atlanta. Instead the team is expected to announce the hiring of current Brave manager Bobby Cox to stay and manage the new ball club. The current Braves franchise declared bankruptcy and had to cease operations a few seasons ago. A team full of replacement players left over from the last strike has been playing under the Braves name since, but the city is excited about getting a new ML franchise.

It seems that only 2 L2 teams are moving to the AL in the upcoming merger(I wonder why that is...). But Mr.Met's C3 team looks real tough and it might be another rivalry in the making.

The prospect of scouting 30 organizations, 120 teams plus northern leagues is indeed a very exciting, if not time consuming. There are still some full time scouting positions left in our company, those who are interested please send your resume as well as a $50 processing fee to synocco.
