in response to whitey. Plus it is about time we start a new thread.

Well there was no way i could have beaten SF with my current team. SO i trade him players he needed and i got the ones i needed. Realistically, I am shooting for the wildcard. Hopefully, if i do extremely well, the division. I did not wanna trade within my own division but no one had players to offer like SF did.

peace,

Good work J!

Almost finished my draft card earlier today. All groupings are set. Pretty thin draft at pitching again, but there are a couple studs.

I will be pretty surprised if I sign more then 4-5 guys from this draft.

Have I mentioned that I am still looking for pitching? I will give up 10, 4 star average hitters for a solid pitcher. I am ready to wheel and deal, just give me a call.

I was looking over the top prospects. The highest ranked SP prospect is #35 and there are only 2 in the top 50 !!! I know this affects everyone but soon enough having a pitcher that is over 400 is categories will be qualify him as ML lever talent !!!

I can say 19-9 which is what my team is sitting atop the AL Central (the hardest division in baseball) I guess getting downs, adkins, and wright helped.

Wakeup call for the worst team in GSB. Thanx J

Amazingly only 5 teams have better Cumulative hitter stats, 9 have better Bullpen Cum stats, and 14 have better cum Starter stats. The way I can reconcile this is that it looks like from J's stats I have been overvalueing Gap for sure and even tho I knew Ave was far and away the most important stat I was still undervalueing it. Same with Control. Early success with pitchers with great cumulative stats but weak control gave me the wrong idea I guess.

How did I ever end up drafting 23'rd in this stacked deck? I guess I should have been protesting that arrangement.

Note to BP Generator...

I think the reason offers aren't getting more response is the league is now so large people are in trade offer overload.

I know I don't have time to give every post on the board fair consideration. Anyone with players who won't resign will get extra attention from me BTW

Baldwin, you're probably right about that. I've started to try to scout around for teams that may be interested in the guys I want to move, and just make offers to them. It's just a lot of work.

I may be willing to sell Joyner for cash, if anyone wants to buy him. I'm running low on funds.

Ok, I know I am not the best manager in the world, nor even in this League here. I happen to think I am pretty good at building teams, I have had a pretty successful career. But compared to managers in some other leagues, being a Gurupie and being able to compete with you guys, I have become a pretty great manager and it shows. In Leauge K. I missed the draft for AA and A. Leaving me with no body to trade, no talent below AAA. My MLB's were all 2B and OF and I had very little pitching. I started out probably the worst team in the league, winning like 3 games in the first 3 weeks. Since then I have built my team by a good draft and making deals for my AAA guys, I was able to build my team so now with 1 week left, I am 79-76 and only 3 games out of 1st in the AL West. I play 7 games this week. 3 of them against the team ahead of me. Basically what I am saying, in our own league we have this group of managers who are pretty damn good at what we do, when you take us out of this league, no one can compete against us in a realistic way. we have some sort of advantage over these other teams.

And this is not the only situation, in my B3 League which started out as an all Gurupie thing, Timing and I were the top 2 teams every year. In P3 after it became watered down, I was able to build up the Cardinals from a team that was a few games above .500 into a team that could have won 50+ games had we not just started the merger league. I think we all have something to be proud of, I dont know about any of the other managers in this league and their out of gurupie league accomplishments, but I think we all have something to be proud of, we are all exceptional managers and I am honored to work in this league with all of you, I love the competition, thanks for having me...

Well, I was in St. Louis for the weekend to see the Cards totally destroy the Scubbies. The Cards were in second when I left, just like my Red Sox. When I left St. Louis, the Cards were in first, just like my Red Sox. Coincidence? I think not. Looks like I'm going to win the World Series this season because I seem to do the same as the Redbirds.

Wammie - I take Visa, Discover, and Mastercard along with cash and money orders. I hope you didn't commit suicide on the flight back to Boston.

I can't tell exactly how much he's declining, because I just picked him up at the end of last season. I would guess he has lost about 6 points since the start of the league. I'm fairly certain his numbers were low to begin with - I remember seeing him when the league started, and his numbers were in the mid 480s. I think whoever had him last left him on the bench for a few weeks during the time when players lost 5 points per sim for not playing.

490 438 492
484 432 484
481 429 481
478 426 478

I'm not sure of exact dates, but its probably since the middle of last season.

Brock,

I will win the money back. I would have won it back in GSB, but you made sure to go to the AL so we wouldn't play head to head.

We will have to make the same bets when the Cards go to Wrigley.

I'll be around for season six i know that much. But no one else is talking, there isn't much to talk about. The teams that were expected to be in first are and the teams that were expected to be in last are. The AL Central is the toughest Div in Baseball, and thats that. Plus everytime I say something, Timing Bashes me on his site, so why even bother, I try to give you guys some credit, I guess Timers isn't used to compliments.

OT - I have a question that has nothing to do with GSB. How detrimental to productivity is it to do a workout 3 hours before playing a baseball game? My schedule is really hecticand I'm having a hard time finding an hour to workout. So, if I do an arms workout at say 5:00-6:00 and then play a game at 8:30, will that mess me up big time?? I guess this is directed at TB, Brock, Wammie or anyone else who might have an intelligent opinion on this

It depends on your current fitness level, Owen. You gotta do what you gotta do. If you have been working out regularly you should be okay.

I would definitely NOT do an arms workout the same day that you play baseball. If it's not a strenuous workout, then you would probably be ok. I've made the mistake in the past of doing them on the same day and my swing was totally screwed up.

MattG did you mean to say that the AL Central was the weakest division in League E?

I was about to post the same reply as TB. If you work out regularly then it will not affect you much in your game. I generally do a light workout (mainly just circuit type training) on days that I have games and work out hard when I have 2 to 3 days off. It may differ from sport to sport, though. I play in very competitive basketball leagues and I don't want to throw my shot off with a hard workout the day of a game. With baseball it may not be a problem.

I don't know how my body would react since I've never done a workout a few hours before a game. I normally my biceps/forearms workout every 3 or 4 days so I don't think I would be sore after it. Maybe if I just do a maintenence workout and don't go too crazy. Thanks for the advice

Whitey, my suggestion is to do a workout but make it light, maybe cut your reps into half or 3/4 so you arent going all out, you should be ok, but you do not want a long layover between your workout and your game, cause once you let your body cool then your muscles will take longer to heat up for the game. Just make sure you stay active and drink a ton of fluids, that's what I always did/do.

No Brock, i meant it is the toughest...

G - Do you know what the definition of toughest is? I think you're confusing it with weakest because if PP is leading your division, it must suck. The AL East is by far the best division this year.

speaking of the waiver wire, Oakland castoff Bill King pitched a complete game 6 hitter for me. now my rookie starter is healthy again, so I guess King is headed to the bullpen now.

LOL

It's even worse in league I. Every day at least 3-4 emails offering guys with 400-450 averages (done improving) and wanting stud prospects for those guys.

J, I noticed you picked up King and White. Got tired of paying their salaries and couldn't get a bite on either one. King played great for me for many years in Z2 but his age and contract didn't fit in with my current teams plans. I brought a lot of MLB ready SP into the merger with me thinking it would be the biggest need area going to the 5 man rotation. I thought that I would be able to trade him for sure.

I do hope Kings continues to pitch for you like he wouldn't for me in league E.

I know it's early, but you all must admit the AL (L)east is looking very good so far. How many other divisions can boast that every team is at .500 or better...and it's not because of a soft schedule either. Just last night I took 2 of 3 from Chicago, Boston and Oakland.

What the heck is going on in the AL West?

J, I just threw him out there to see if anybody was very desperate, stress very, at the catcher position.

Is anybody else able to log into GSB this morning? Looks like GSB has developed the SW bugs.

GSB is down for the count, so i have nothing to do. The AL currently is looking like one Tough LEague. So many teams over .500. This could be an even better race than last year hopefully i can stay in it...

I can log in to GSB without any problems...

Matt G, skineej, Brock, TB - I ended doing my workout from 4:30 to 5:30 and then played the game at 8:30. I did my normal biceps, forearms, lats workout but I subtracted 1 or 2 reps from each set.

I felt ok when I was playing...had an RBI double, a walk and flew out to left so I could have done worse. I'm gonna do more experimenting to see what kind of effect it really has on me

Good Job in the game. Did your muscles feel tense at all when playing? If so then you might want to move your workout closer to game time, use it as your warmup, my brother does that while drinking Gatorade and he'll play an entire BasketBall game with no rest and not be tired. But anyhow, keep experimenting and let us know how it works...

I wouldn't lift weights my self before a game. It is kind of like taking 500 cuts of soft toss before a game. you don't really feel tired, but you def lose bat speed and you swing probalby loses form. Baseball is a lot different than basketball.

I would think doing a biceps workout before a basketball game would be worse, no? It might have slowed my bat down a little bit. I will see if my swing is any different tonight without doing a workout before the game...

Anyone notice the disparity between home and away games? It's been brought up in the test-league and I agree with a home field advantage, but it seems to be a bit extreme right now.

I dread seeing a week filled with away games. Especially pitchers getting rocked on the road.

TB, last season my team was around 30 games over .500 at home and 10-15 games under .500 at home. so i would agree that is it a little too much.

Well, thanks for spotlighting Sparks on the front of the league home page. He proceeded to give up 12 runs on 20 hits in 8 innings this week against the Pirates (2 games), who were near the bottom in hitting in the NL before our home and away series. His ERA ballooned to 4.45 and has to face Seattle and Anaheim next week. The Royals and Angels have split 3-3 so far this season with the home team sweeping each time. In appreciation, I would like to highlight the entire Angels team as doing a fantastic job so far this year, especially the three pitchers we'll be facing! ;)

Nice stuff on the webpage! I didn't even notice that Bockman walked 10 guys, maybe because I didn't want to????

Just an update on my league K stuff.

I was 9.5 games back with 3 weeks to go, I tied it up. Won the 1 Game playoff, then swept the 115 Win Twins in the Div. Series. So things are looking up for the Mariners in my league. Next up is the Cleveland Indians, I was 2 - 7 VS them this year but I had 4 one Run losses. They were the WildCard and won 98 games. I won 85. Wish me luck.
