SP Bill Swift- STUD
SP Mike Bell- STUD
OF AL Swett- Mr. Long ball
Looking for prospects: SP's with 400+ FB and great potential and/or hitters with great speed and 4 star avg and 3/4 star gap or HR.

I am going to wait until after the draft to make my decision, Swift and Bell are hot so make your offer a good one.

You continue to crack me up SanFran. I realize you can't come up with anything on your own and it kills me. I get such a kick out of reading your posts. Keep it up.

Wammie - what do you expect to get with 2 home games? That's the way it's been all year.

no matter what your record is, with 2 home games and 6 road games, you should get more than 75K a game average. Is this the same kind of money other teams are getting? It has to be. at this rate, no one will have money to spend on players who get big arbitration deals, much less sign long term contracts or sign free agents.

Wammie, I think the commish has done this intentionally to get rid of the excess money in the game. There is a lot less money floating around these days. In order to make a lot of money in a given week, you need to have a *really* good record (like over .600) and have a bunch of home games against teams with decent records. I am already facing the problems you're talking about with signing arbitration-eligible players. I will probably have to trade a few players this offseason and let a couple go to FA, where in the old days it would have been no problem to sign them. That's just the way it is now. It's a pain, but it will force everyone to put more thought into which players are worth signing, which could make things more interesting. On the other hand, it may make it that much harder for the rest of us to catch up to Sanfran, since he is no doubt raking in the cash and will be able to sign more of his players than the rest of us could.

Like I said from day 1, that's the problem with stacked teams. I'm not saying SanFran is at fault here either. I'm just stating a fact.

Actually, Brock does get to face Philly once a year - after two years, the Red Sox are 1-5 against the Fightin' Phils, with their only win being by one run. Luck? Perhaps, but just because there's a lack of parity in the NL doesn't mean that the whole league sucks. The top teams are just far too good...

it doesn't matter what the score to game is whitey, it is only one loss. 40-1 is the same as 2-1 in 15 innings. it is a loss.

Wammie - I disagree 100% with that statement....as a matter of fact I would go as far as to say that is a very dumb thing to say. Obviously they are both losses, but you really don't see the difference between losing 18-9 and 3-2??? Have you ever played baseball??

Brock should I have called you my dirty little French whore after I just beat you 5 out of 6? Huh douche bag? Huh bitch? Yeah that's what I thought. Regular season matchups are pretty damn meaningless in this game now. Some of you obviously haven't figured that out yet. I outscored Purple Pamper 26-19 on the road and I'm HIS bitch? Errr.... yeah, okay. I think instead of just not posting here, I'd be better off not even reading these mindless trash heap threads anymore.

Whitey,

What is the difference between losing a game by one run and 20 runs? it is still number added in the loss column. just as when a team wins by 20, it is still a single number added to the win column. at the end of the season, you don't say, well, we were one game out of first place, but the team who won the division lost a game by 20, so we were really better than they were, even though they actually have a better record.

and the last baseball team that i was on that lost a game by 20 runs, I was in high school and we went on to have the best record in my high school's history, won our conference, qualified for the state tournament finished third. we had a .871 winning % that season too. and all the teams we beat to win the conference and to go to state couldn't do a damn thing that we lost a game by 20 when we were beating them.

This is what kills me about this game. My best pitcher went down last week for one week, so I had to bring up a starter from AAA to take his place. Tom Smith, whose ratings are 461 373 252 468 proceeds to go 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA. My Scott Downs clone (Figga) is currently 8-12 with a 4.34 ERA. What gives? Is there something that makes a pitcher with less than stellar ratings sometimes pitch well, and one with very good ratings prone to throwing stinkers every other game out? The same player came up last year and pitched well in 6 spot starts and now has a career record of 5-0 with a 2.67 ERA. Maybe I should keep this guy in the rotation and move one of my starters to the pen.

I noticed that before you ever posted. I know Figga has you as frustrated as Morgan has me.

It is a simulated game that is the luck of the draw. It's fun trying to get the best players according to ratings but many "studs" never play at that level and there are always overachievers.

I have noticed this season that for the most part, pitchers with all 4 ratings close to the 400 mark seem to be doing well.

Morgan aka Downs will pitch a gem then get shelled. No consistency all season. Dorgan aka Scott has been having a horrible season. Any RP I put in as a starter seems to pitch well for his 3-6 innings but the SP I put in as long relief gets shelled. If I am completely out of it by the next sim, I am going to start all RP's the last week and see if has been a fluke.

Halla sucks ass but nobody has thought to come back in here and tell Brock what a dork he was for making that trade. Oh well, his little lucky streak had to end soon anyways. His entire team has overachieved all year.

Some pitchers with a sub 300 rating have pitched well this year and last year. Look at Buckles on my team. Ramirez has also gotten some control back and is pitching okay. Brooks is doing alright. Bello has good ratings and has just started to pitch like I thought he would when I traded for him. Consulo is getting waived right before the World Series. Hopefully he will go straight to Free agency and I won't get dinged for his salary.

I hope a certain team doesn't check their free agents before the season is over. I have given some heads-up before but think I am done with that. I am almost positive San Fran knows who I am talking about and several more owners will go in and peek now. I have some money to spend and it will be spent.

Glad to see Houston took my advice a few weeks back. I have also been tracking some other players in the Northern League and decided to get one now and one more after week 17.

You got me curious Pimpster so I started to do some comparing.

I was looking at what teams were getting "sim-jacked" the worst and couldn't see where the Brewers were getting really screwed in the NL. I added up their wins and realized that it is in interleague play. They are 2-13 against the AL. Ouch. Mine sucks too, 7-11. Anyone else in the NL have a worse record in interleague play?

I did the AL and its like this:

Boston 11-7
Tampa 10-8
Baltimore 8-9
Toronto 12-6
NY 8-9

Chicago 13-5
KC 10-8
Minnesota 9-9
Cleveland 13-5
Detroit 9-9

Anaheim 12-6
Oakland 7-11
Seattle 7-11
Texas 6-12

Slight AL advantage: 135-126

Someone told me the other day that the Interleague schedule is always the same, West plays West, East plays East, etc. With that in mind, I find it amazing that 4 teams made it to the play-offs from the West last year and it will be 3 again this year.

TB - just name one guy on my team that is overachieving. I really don't see any. I do see a lot of underachievers though. My whole bullpen, Hernandez, and Tinoco. All you do is make an ass of yourself with statements like that. Does the jealousy of not making the playoffs cause that?

i know i do not say much, although some things people say on these boards shouldn't be posted, i think if there is only one time to be involved in the league it is to vote for awards. We are all Elite Managers and voting for awards is in our job description. SO, go to the "Ballot Box" aka the league web page and vote. Your vote DOES make a difference and your voice will be heard. This is G.S.B. it is your right to vote.

I wonder if there will be a tie-breaker game for the AL Central. It actually is not necessary since both teams are in the playoffs anyway, but how will the matchups be determined? Even though the Whitesox and Royals are tied, my Royals are listed as the Wild Card team. However, I believe head to head is the first tie-breaker and KC won the season series 7-5. Therefore, I believe the correct matchups would be CHW at Boston and KC at Anaheim. Looking at the team vs. team records, I think I'd rather face the Redsox in the opening round so maybe I'll just keep quiet. ;)

There should have been a play-off. I wonder why there wasn't?

I am pretty good about tracking my players growth daily. I notice some odd stuff here and there and usually email the commish and it's fixed. I know I posted the other day that I cut a 3B who quit developing (post #142). I went back in and watched him increase again in the northern league. I still have the printed roster where he did not develop in his average rating for one week, so I know I didn't make a mistake. Just giving a heads up before you start cutting guys. You may want to confirm their lack of growth for an extra week.

Pimpster, I emailed the commish and asked him why Slick Doran was showing as an eligible free agent. Don't know if you noticed this, but I bet you would be pretty pissed if you lost him, eh?

Hated to see Tampa Bay update their 40-man roster. lol

TB - I have noticed similar things lately with a few of my players. I've had guys not improve at all one day, then improve the next day. For example, I was certain that Tarasco was done improving in HR at 486; then today he was at 487. There are a couple of other examples too. I wonder if this was an intentional move by the commish.

I e-mailed Tampa Bay a few weeks ago about Grammas. Sure I'd like to have him, but he needs him worse than most of us do.

I too noticed about two weeks ago that something had been changed (about the same time Koontz points to a Commish tweak). In both my leagues I cut players and then had to go back and re-sign them from the NL when they started improving again. This is somewhat like when the new version of the growth formula was implemented awhile back, and players would stop for a few days or even a week and then gain 15-30 or so more points in a category. Just makes it a little more difficult to keep up with your players.

TB, as I pointed out in post 171, there was no need for a playoff game. However, the Whitesox are shown to be the division winner (when they should be the Wild Card) and have to face the Angels. My Royals will face Boston which I fared a little better against this season.

Skinneej,

I have done the same for other teams, like Cincy last year, but didn't want to give TB a heads up. Kyle came across like a jerk last year and a know it all, "....like to beat on Gurupies.." or something like that. Grammas would have made a fine addition to my club, lol.

Joe, no word from the commish yet. You might want to shoot him an email of your own. Btw, congrats on making the play-offs. I know you have had some good seasons and been close before. The old NL East was tough and mostly dominated by Whitey. Owen has been kinda AWOL all season. You checked out Guerrero lately? Hoping he can keep on improving for at least a couple more sims.
