I just finished my beta version of the awards/all star voting software, i am going to need to test it out with a few of you guys to see how well it works. I will put the software on my web page to download sometime on thursday, as well as the database that you will need. I will also put down some instructions on running it. IT should be pretty easy to use. I need comments on whether certain features are good, bad, and anything in between. my web page is: webPage. the Link will be on the main page. hope this works!!!

The voting software and the voting database are up on the web. Here is a link to my web page: voting software Just play around with it and tell me what you think. i am going to make a help file but until then see if it is easy to use. NOTE: you must save the 2 fies into the C: root directory in your computer. Not in any folders but in the main C: directory for it to work. other than that hae fun

I got this error when I tried to run the voter app, "Component 'MSADODC.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missong or invalid"

Any ideas? I saved both files in my root C: directory and unzipped the voter file into root C:

the software should now work the problem was that since myself and sanfran both had vb, we had some files you do not have. they are the .OCX files(msadodc and msflxgrd). these are essential to run the program and i just included it in the zip file to download. Now it should work properly and remember to download it to the c:.

also somehow it wasn't working on win95 but we got it to work on winME, win2000, and win98. And i use a very large screen size like 1024 by 768 and if you use a screen resoluion smaller thantha things may be cut out of your screen. will fix that.

I like the program but there is one problem I have. If I don't vote on every category it won't let me submit it. Can you change it that I don't have to vote on everything ?

no, the poit of that feature is that you MUST vote. That is one of the main purpuses o the prgram to vote for a peson for each award

There is a minor flaw with the voting software. I play Walter Jones at 2B even though his primary position is SS. He's not quite good enough to be an All-Star but he's very close. I would not be able to vote for him at 2B because of his SS primary listing. It would probably be a pain in the ass to change but I just wanted to bring it up.

You guys might want to know, if you didn't already, that Jose Rudolph - OF San Diego, played most of his games at 1B. I don't think he should be considered as an OF for the All-Star vote. I won't be voting for him.

that is not of the problems with all star voting in gsb.

If Rudolph can't be considered at 1B because of the voting program, then it seems to me he should be considered at OF. (He played 50 games at OF and 111 at 1B.) He obviously deserves to make it somewhere. This issue was brought up before but not resolved. I think the easiest way to resolve it is just to consider players at their listed position. It will minimize confusion.

the voting program only lists the primary positions of the player, there is nothing really i could do to change that, and i think that bpg is right what ever their primary position is that is what they would be as an all star. there is not easy way around it, but at leat people are honest about it.

I didn't realize exactly how the program worked. I thought it submitted them directly. You can change the picks manually which is good. If there is a discretion in position, then you can make the change before you actually submit your picks. I just don't think a guy that played only 1/3 of his games at his listed position should be considered at that position. Fortunately, like I said, you can change it yourself when you copy and paste your picks.

How in the hell did Rudolph get those stats with the ratings that he has? Talk about overachieving.

yeah, the progrm is supposed to make searching for the top players easier. You can vote for whoever you want..

And PP you gotta add a field for FOY on your voting form.

AXP - do you think next time you could add Runs to the listing of stats? I think Runs is a very important category.

actually, AXP - any reason not to just show ALL the stats that GSB offers? I assume you just kinda copy paste from the team stats pages.

IP for FOY would be usefull too (also in the ROY pitching category)

I think for closers the number of saves to be considered for FOY should be lower. Gardner and Morrison were probably the top 2 closers in the NL this year if you look at saves and ERA, but neither quite made the 35 save cutoff. Too late for this year, but maybe next year we could change it.

And maybe, instead instead of the strict limits, if anyone wants to nominate certain players...

Not trying to be too criticizing AXP, I appreciate what you're doing, just trying to make it better!!!!

what should you count insted of saves when looking at a closer? trevor hoffman is one of the best closers in the game, but he plays for the sh!t bag padres. he isn't goign to get an award for being the best closer if he doesn't close out any games. even if it is the fault of his team being sh!tty

I wasn't saying don't count saves, I was saying not to set the bar too high. Saves are overrated. A guy with 30 saves and an ERA in the 3's is a much better closer than one with 45 saves and an ERA over 5. The number of saves someone gets depends on how many close games his team plays. Plus, we don't have records of blown saves. A guy with a 5 ERA will have plenty of those. Also, the sim does not calculate saves accurately - if the closer enters with a 4 run lead and gives up a run, he gets credit for a save.

i dont mind you guys critisizing my program, actually it helps because you guys are giving me better ideas to work with. No hard feelings with anyone. I sort of expected people to critisize it. At least people are becoming involved. That is good
