Please note that my rankings are skewed to players that do well in all 6 stat categories, so generally taller players do better. Team rankings are skewed to classes that land 3 good recruits as opposed to 1 stud and 2 stiffs. They're not perfect - they're just what I use (and apparently need to use a little better).
| 3 | Raz | ID: 35949280 Mon, Feb 11, 2002, 17:57
I don't know...I'd say your rankings look pretty good. :-) | Although neither publication seemed to agree... 4 | Flying Polack | ID: 2412291 Mon, Feb 11, 2002, 18:18
Hey Beezer, | How do you rank the players? Do you overweight towards the attributes or statistics? I'm just curious because my +6 PG was ranked 236. 5 | The Beezer | Leader ID: 191202817 Mon, Feb 11, 2002, 18:57
I weight attributes and stats for each player differently based on the scout (ex. Exc scout: more weight to attribute, and vice versa). And all stat categories count equally. Since rebounds and blocks are 2 of the categories, and front court players tend to have lower TOs than guards, this tends to skew towards front-court players. I do separate guard ratings as well, but haven't figured out a good way to incorporate them into the overall ratings. | Zoeller ranked lower because he had low rebounds, steals, and blocks. Surprised he came out that well since his attributes weren't anything special and it was a good scout, but that's not the last time I'll be off by that much. Congrats on landing him. 6 | VIDevilRays | Leader ID: 29439176 Mon, Feb 11, 2002, 19:09
Interesting stuff Beezer. Appreciate your hard work.

See? I knew I had a great class. | I'm surprised to see Dobbs that high. He was good, but I wouldn't put him with the guys he's ranked around. Also, I know his ratings turned out low, so I'd rank him even lower. Nevertheless, I really think I should have gone for him instead of X.B. 8 | blue hen, almighty | Leader ID: 34937217 Mon, Feb 11, 2002, 19:22
Oh, and EXCELLENT job Beezer. This is phenomenal. Do you happen to have this for previous seasons in any form?
| 9 | beastiemiked | ID: 14821921 Mon, Feb 11, 2002, 21:14
Awesome Beezer, though Providence points to the publications.

i knew my recruits sucked, oh well this just proves it | 11 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Tue, Feb 12, 2002, 15:47
Hmm, I think Edens is a little low. Is there a reason you have him in the mid-200's?
| 12 | Buchster | ID: 313732 Tue, Feb 12, 2002, 17:22
Hey guys, I signed up for a team the other day and I recieved the Savannah team in League 4. My team is pretty crappy and I'm a little lost in the whole recruiting thing, but I'm trying to gather information on how to play the game. I was wondering if there are any threads you guys could recommend that explain the finer points of the game. I look forward to this game since GSB is basically going down the tubes.
| 13 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Tue, Feb 12, 2002, 18:21
Buchster, Savannah used to be a very good team. I believe they used to be called the Warhounds. Anyway, I am widely considered the "Wizard of SSB", much like John Wooden was the Wizard of Westwood. As such, I have a great command of the game and all the best teams. | Twarpy and I put together (Twarp did most of the work) a little guide for the game in one of the threads and I will try to find it, although maybe one of the others can recall what thread it's in. It might have been posted on the Basketball Forum. Good luck with Savannah! 14 | The Beezer | Leader ID: 191202817 Tue, Feb 12, 2002, 19:18
bh - I did have those records, but I lost them due to some HD trouble. | Wizard (insert your own snide remark here) - Edens was rated that low because his attributes were terrible and he had a good scout. I probably overweight attributes too much, as from his stat line it's clear that he'll be a dominant player. I'm going to try an adjustment this coming season that I hope will tend to correct that. 15 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Tue, Feb 12, 2002, 19:28
I hope everyone realizes that I was joking. I hate putting those little smiley faces as I feel it belittles the intelligence of others to deduce sarcasm from others' comments. Anyway, after reading Beez' post, I wondered if I may have come off unintentionally arrogant in my previous post. Thanks for the feedback, Beezer. By the way, Edens turned out much, much better than his scouted atts, if you were wondering. It's always nice to get a player like that as cheaply as I was able to.
| 16 | blue hen, almighty | Leader ID: 34937217 Tue, Feb 12, 2002, 20:53
You're the Wizard of Sucking. And I'm still awaiting proof that good stats in HS overcome crappy attributes.
| 17 | G Dogg | ID: 13631420 Tue, Feb 12, 2002, 21:03
Look at Edens stats, dumbass.
| 18 | beastiemiked | ID: 14821921 Tue, Feb 12, 2002, 21:20
I think bh is looking for the attribute changes not just his stats.
| 19 | blue hen, almighty | Leader ID: 27048221 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 03:16
Or at least some evidence of post-HS performance. If a guy is good scouted with fair shot but shoots 55% in high school, you hypothesize that he'll shoot 55% in college, even if the shot remains fair. | That's the extreme example, but that is the proof I seek to believe your hypothesis. Edens had good stats, but did his attributes rise? Tell Beezer his attributes and see where he would have ranked with his HS stats, those attributes, and an excellent scout. Sound good? Just to point something out, Fortwengler actually shot almost as well (for 2) as Kiplinger. 20 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 12:27
Beezer, will you please plug in E F F G F F for Edens for bh? What were Edens atts before (something like F F N F F?)?
| 21 | The Beezer | Leader ID: 191202817 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 12:45
Rayshard was a G-F-P+F+F+ with a 2.5/53 GPA/Exam. | Plugging in those attributes would have made a huge difference in his rating. With that rating and the same good scout, he would have ranked 26th. Damn good find there G Dogg. 22 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 13:02
Thanks, Beezer. And I almost stopped recruiting him because I thought he was "fool's gold" (granted, he's not God, but at 6-8 and with that shooting percentage and atts, he'll be damn good). Convinced bh? | I noticed someone landed Rickey Bennett, mind posting his final atts? I was actually the #1 team on him. 23 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 13:05
One more thing, Beezer (if you don't mind). Where would that have placed my recruiting class in your class rankings? Thanks in advance.
| 24 | J | Leader ID: 34451212 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 13:12
Bennett had pretty nice stats, but the ratings are kinda weak | Good Fair None Fair Fair Fair 25 | blue hen, almighty | Leader ID: 34937217 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 14:09
I won't take that as "proof" per se, nor am I "convinced" per se, but there certainly is some logic to G's point. However, a G shot going to E is not unheard of, even with a good scout (Nugent went E to G with an exc scout). I thought Edens was worse (I assumed F shot from Beezer's post 14). | Also, 6'8 E F F G F F is great, but let's not get carried away. Basically, he went up one rating in shot and hands, but hands don't really matter when you shoot as much as he's going to. Nonetheless, he's a good find. I wish I'd found him (although I'd rather have Kiplinger at EGEFFG and an inch shorter). Beezer, with Kiplinger at EGEFFG and Fortwengler at FFEFFF, do I move anywhere? 26 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 14:15
Well, he actually went up a little higher than that. He was G- shot (and we all know that means the scout thinks he is closer to an F) and looks like a solid E, close to E+. He went up a rating in hands, and also went up in rebounding. That's 3 ratings with a Good scout, pretty impressive.
| 27 | The Beezer | Leader ID: 191202817 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 14:43
OK, we've shown that a good scout still has some room for improvement (or worsening) and that stats should probably be weighted more that scouted attributes. With that said, I'm not making any more changes to the ratings, because it's really pretty irrelevant at this point. | Who you've got is who you've got, so if you're guy came out +8 and I had him rated 600th, good for you. Does that sound like somebody who a little bitter about losing all his ties for the second year in a row or what? :) 28 | Buchster | ID: 313732 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 16:04
From looking at Savannah's record for the past 10 years it looks like they used to be good. We're coming off an 11-13 year and there are a total of 5 excellent ratings spread out between my 12 players. I don't know if that's normal, but to me it looks pretty bad. My biggest problem right now is trying to figure out how to arrange my players in the lineup.
| 29 | Raz | ID: 35949280 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 18:10
My team only has 3 EXC spread out around all the players (that includes 2 on one player and none in the incoming freshman class, despite their rather generous ranking by The Beezer). Of course, this team has never won more than 10 games in any of the last 9 seasons... I look to change that after only improving the team by one game in my first season (7-17 to 8-16).
| 30 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 18:15
The Beezer, get used to it because in the season's in which I have won more than 18 games, I have lost all my ties....
| 31 | Toral | Sustainer ID: 2111201313 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 18:39
Does anybody have the 75-most-recruited players from last year (with their regions)? I was just about to copy it when the recruits came up. | Toral 32 | MattG | ID: 37722615 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 18:59
I'm having a problem picking my starting PF, everything else is set I just need some suggestions here, this is what i have. | Soph. 6'8" FGFFFFF Soph. 6'5" FEFFFFG Not sure if i should go with the +3 even though I lost 3 inches or stick with the +1 and go with the height? Their stats were similar last year in back-up roles both getting 3 pts per game but the taller guy getting 1 more REB but played 5 more minutes per game...?? What to do....? any suggestions. 33 | J | Leader ID: 34451212 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 19:04
I would try the shorter guy at PF for a couple of exhibition games if you can and see how they do.
| 34 | MattG | ID: 37722615 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 19:09
i put him in maybe we'll see what happens, i might wanna go with the height.... this gives me 4 Starters with Exe Def... Hopefully that helps to shut teams down...
| 35 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 19:26
I would definitely go with the 6-5 guy. He'll be great as a role player.
| 36 | MattG | ID: 37722615 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 22:16
I think i'll go with him and just use defence as much as i can to win... I got 2 good shooters i can count on for 15+ per game, then 3 guys who will be roll players, lets hope this gets me to the NTT this year, cause next year my team wont be very good.
| 37 | Raz | ID: 35949280 Wed, Feb 13, 2002, 23:02
This post is solely for celebration. | After going all of last season without ever having a player get "Stars of the Game," freshman phenom Ralph Lowery wastes no time this season, notching 25 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks en route to being the first Rattler to make an appearance on the list. The future is bright! P.S. My brother, the owner of Battle Creek, also had a freshman, Jack McClure, make the list. 38 | G Dogg | ID: 539522315 Thu, Feb 14, 2002, 12:12
Tomorrow night the Gainesville DoggyDoggs take on Coach bluehen's Mighty Roosters of Terre Hoot. And here is my lineup, which will most likely be my opening night lineup... | Starters: PG: Buford Henson 6-5, So. SG: Jesus Nichols 6-7, Sr. SF: Rayshard Edens 6-8, Fr. PF: Pete "What you talkin' bout" Willis 6-7, Sr. C: Mohammed Marsh 6-9, Jr. Bench: bPG: Jonah Townsend 6-5, Sr. bSG: Jess "Don't call me Jerry" Springer 6-7, Jr. bSF: Matthew Darnell 6-9, So. bPF: Jay Revell 6-9, Jr. bC: Mohammed Gabriel 6-8, Fr. The only question mark in this lineup (in terms of who will be playing) is at bC, where both Gabriel and Dion Clinton (6-11, Fr.) have done very good things. I expect I will be rotating them whenever I get the urge to swith things up. Paco Deatrick (6-8, So.) will need to practice some agility stuff to see PT this season. Good luck to bh as this is the biggest game of the season for Gainesville (up to this point). 39 | Raider Guy | ID: 5215103 Sat, Feb 16, 2002, 16:42
Wow, I didn't expect Tristan Dobbs to be ranked as high as he is. I was really lucky to get him too. I was tied with one other guy who was maxing him. Then with two weeks left to go, the other guy stopped putting recruiting points on him...wonder who it was? ;)
| 40 | Dan | ID: 371211321 Sat, Feb 16, 2002, 16:54
GRRRR, I wonder who that was too...BASTARD | It was me if you dont know... :-( 41 | beastiemiked | ID: 14821921 Sun, Feb 17, 2002, 14:02
I don't think Chris plays anymore so you might want to take him off your list of gurupie coaches.
| 42 | G Dogg | ID: 13631420 Sun, Feb 17, 2002, 14:48
He doesn't. In fact, he isn't the coach of South Bend anymore.
