I think I am at liberty to share this information. Mike has indicated that he is continuing to address BP unbalancing strategies in the sim. Starting immediately, he plans to limit bargain breeding to one horse per week.
Also, I just emailed him about the fact that most horses have their starter tags incorrectly calculated for this week. I am personally benefitting from these extra tags, but I really shouldn't have them. I'll post when I know whether this was intentional or an accident.
Lastly, there are strong indications that zgreat may be departing the sim. He didn't run his horses this week, and is attempting to exit quietly. I have asked him to think about it, but he is pretty disgruntled about certain aspects of the game and no longer finds it worth his time.
I understand where he is coming from, but I think the problems the sim are suffering from right now are very difficult to solve. Also, I haven't experienced the frustration with attempting to communicate with Mike that zgreat has (since I have no unusual direct pipeline to Mike, all my communication comes third- and fourth- hand). |

Holy cow -- just got a response from Mike about the starter tag thing. Literally 5 minutes after I sent off the email!
At any rate, he still has another update to go today, and he said he would implement the 6-month starter tag rule immediately.
So that issue should be resolved shortly.

I'm sad to hear that zgreat might be leaving the game. I think madman had mentioned his unhappiness before, and when GSR was set up I even checked to see whether he had bothered to enter. I don't know him well enough to talk to him about it, but he seemed to be on the right side of most things and as an owner was good for the game. I hope we aren't seeing a Gresham's Law here, where the bad drives out the good.
Besides the easy-BP strategies and the 750 free BPs, I do wonder what zgreat is disgruntled about?

This constant updating is a royal pain. Admittedly I know most horses I plan to enter because they're the Sharp! ones. But some trained for this week will be entered if they're only RTG. And I can't tell who's being trained for this week with the update going on.

RACE ENTRY DEADLINE EXTENDED TO 10:00 AM Thursday.
Not sure when they jockey-selection deadline will be.
RACE DAY SCHEDULE DELAYED BY 6 HOURS!
I'm reasonably worried about this. I need to get my stable update so I can breed sometime Saturday. If races are delayed 6 hours, I wonder if he will even bother with a stable update Saturday . . . AAARRRGGHHH.
Regarding zgreat, I'll post later.

Toral 4 -- IMO, I think zgreat quit because he just got tired of fighting Mike on a whole host of issues. He has a different vision of where the game should be headed, and he lost faith in Mike.
A number of recent changes made his previous strategies marginal or inconsequential. I suppose like a lot of us who did something exceptionally well and enjoyed it, we really don't want to change.
I think zgreat saw the hand-writing on the wall, in some sense. Many of Mike's programmatical changes make it very difficult to become or maintain championship training status. I know zgreat was very, very frustrated with many of the new breeding rules; he was disappointed with Mike's responses to the claim bandits. He was dissatisfied with a draft version of the new auction rules; I don't know if this was the version that got passed or not.
But I think all of this might have been OK except for the fact that over the past 20 weeks his stables were totally flooded with BP. And he couldn't breed for a reasonable cost. And he started to realize that Mike was going to try to reward all the owners in the game with BP all over the place. Thus, even if he maxed his BP, he was concerned that doing so wouldn't be enough to maintain a competitive advantage. The ability to sit by your computer and snag the sire you wanted, coupled with total luck in the quality of your homebreds were the new rules of the game that zgreat saw coming. He didn't want to play that sort of game, so is dropping out.
Plus, I think he also got tired of a lot of the juvenile behavior and things.
All of this is my speculation on the issue. Who really knows for sure. Unfortunately, I am also worried about many of the things that zgreat saw.
I am encouraged by recent development in the sim (last week or so). And the game engine has always been extremely good. And I am much more enthusiastic about the auction than zgreat was.
We shall see.
