3 2-year-old favourites highlight a field of 18 running for me this week -- largest field in some time, what with all these 2-year-olds clogging up things.

Polish Provocation is 3/1* and sharp in his first out at 5.5 furlongs on the turf in TZ6703. This breeding (Langfuhr x Hoist The Flag x Prove Out) is a gamble that the sim workd as it should. Langfuhr has done little as a sim sire -- but he had a big year as a RL sire of 2-year-olds last year and I am gambling my free 750 BP that Mike's tweaking will make him better than he looks. The 2-year-olds bred this year by Langfuhr have been bombing as well, though....

Reification is 4-1* on the strength of 1 60 first out, in NC4009 at 5 on the turf.

Blue Tory Theory, (x Unreal Zeal) is 5-1* in CN7606 at 4.5 on the dirt.

These 2-year-olds running make me think of Madman's comments last week about his 2-year-olds bombing (they don't actually look that bad to me) and how he had no potential graded stake winner emerging. I don't even have a regular stake winner emerging, but although I'm happy with my claiming-trainer activities, there is some thought that the BP payoffs will culminate in something good eventually. By the end of this year I will have no less than *10* well-bred 2-year-olds in my stables. If *none* of them turns out to be a star, it will be cause for some thinking/rethinking. I only have one 2-year-old winner this year, but only one absolute bomb so far, Telephoned Appeal, who put in a secong clanger of a performance. I've never had an absolute bomb of an expensive 2-year-old before. I mean, City O'Gold was a disappointment, but he finished ITM a lot, for a long while could give hope that all he needed was a different distance/surface/jockey/luck. I'm not really sure what to do with a 2-year-old bomb. Obviously I try him on turf, then put im in a miler when I can find one for 2-year-olds, but then?

Other favourites include two I bred last year as 2's: the aforesaid City O'Gold is 5/2* in a $13.5 CN2L in New Mexico1413 at 6 on the turf. If I can place this guy right I think I can get a string of ITM finishes out of him before he is eventually picked up by somebody. The workmanlike Alsterimist is 5/2 in a C$7.5N3L at 9 furlongs on the dirt in Iowa 1901. She runs 70s to 75s; same ITM potential as City O'Gold above.

Code Keeper, my bargain breed, is a 6/5* favourite in an Indiana 2002 C$10N2L 6.5 sprint. She has 2 straight ITM finishes, and again someone will eventually ignore the cheapness of her sire line and pick her up.

Visual Wonder is a 5-2* favourite as a recent cheap auction pickup I think I can win a CN2L with -- like this NW6611 c$20N2L.

Windy Pond descended to the $2K claiming level and was ignored before I tried him in a sprint and he ran 90 at 6f. He tries to take advantage of this in a $2K starter in 2613 Wyoming at 3/1.

Two of my putative allowance courses come back to serious running after distance preps. Hank's Rattles will see if he built the stamina to carry his speed for all of 5 furlongs in an N2X allowance in 7705DC at 7/1.

Oh, and I always hoped to run a 3-year-old in Kentucky this week...and I am. Della Street, my 26-pt bargain breed last week, goes off in a $2K MC in the 4th, if she drew in (Kentucky upcoming races still aren't showing up for me.)

Good luck to all.

Well race fans. I got me a doozy of a saturday ahead. Highlights include:

Pepi Dan He is my Derby hopeful. Ok its the Bluegrass Sprint, but its still the bluegrass. This will be the first time Pepi Dan goes for a Grade II. He won in a tight one at the GIII level. He will be tested here at 17/1.

I send 5 horses to the second leg of the IronHorse compitition. They are Utterly the Kelly at 7/1. Motor Elrod goes off at 19/1. He won the first leg as a three year old posyting a nice 100 SP fig. But he prefers the dirt, and the second leg is a Turf.English Axer likes the 7/1 call.Lightning Passing is 8/1, and finally, making all of the headlines....Well not really, is Fletch's Fury who surprised everyone in the first leg by finishing third. Not bad for a three year old filly runbning against boys not her age!

Pricey Courage tries to bounce back from two devestating losses by making his first appearence on the dirt. Its the Buck Forbes Special, and he should be compititive at 7/2. I am actually liking my chances here, however, will forgo any sort of wager, as it is his first run on the brown stuff.

Pub Frazetto tries to go for 2 stake wins ina row. The Bijou D'Inde(GB) Handicap is where he finds a nice 9/2 from the oddsmakers.

And a few more that I will not bother you all with. I figure with the Bluegrass Sprint, the Iron Horse, and 2 Stakes runs. This will be an exciting weekend for me. Not to mention that I will be driving to Bend. Oregon after work on friday to lay a wager down on the Kentucky. I'm sticking with my get and laying down the following.

$5 win on Essence of Dubai
$5 win on Maglia D'Orro
$5 win on Buddha

I've also been considering an exacta box with all the above nags.

Wow, Fletch, it's great to have now a rooting interest in the Bluegrass. That must be great. Congratulations however it goes.

BTW I like either #9 Medaglia D'Oro or
#10 Buddha. Have to compare the two between now and then.

Slow week here. Amazingly, I couldn't get Miswaki Music into her 2K claimers. Hmmmm. Those 3 year old low-tag races are FILLING UP. Which means that the starter-allowance loophole for those horses may be disappearing ASAP . . .

Until then, I'm going to cash in as best I can.
-------------------------------
Just checked email. . . YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!! Check this idiotic training out:

Horse 21705, Biagi's Stubble. I gave up on this horse too early, admittedly. Not a wise move on my part. But I let him go with a $4K starter tag.

Shortly after I let him go, he cranks 92.8 over 7f on turf -- immediately after turning 3.

His owner then runs him on Yielding turf, and he balks. Likewise he's flat over 8f next time out. Last race he ever runs is a flat 6.5f. Note that his start% is very, very fishy for these runs. I think his owner was screwing him.

At any rate, this horse clearly has some AWESOME potential for 4K, 3 year old only starters -- for at least another month.

So, what does the owner do? BREEDS OVER HIM! Good grief. 11 races, including a 92.8 in first race as a 3 year old, and he's gone from the sim. Totally moronic behavior. Pathetic . . .
--------------------------------
Back to the regularly scheduled race program:

Ms. Secretive is even-odds over 9f. She's totally untested at 9f, but if she can make the distance, these are easy points.

Ballroom Blitz Originally a bad-decision bargain-breed, I might recover some points from this horse. She broke her maiden last out in a respectable 73, and am going to see how she fares in a weak starter-allowance field (3 year old. Story sound familiar?? :) ).

Honey Bunny came up sharp too early. 2/5 odds over 6.5f. Probably not fair.

Val's Desert Starter Allowance entrant, 75K tag. Looks sharp at 5/2, this horse is my second fastest runner, and hoping to rack some wins.

Royal With Silver OUCH. There were no filly 8f races with restrictions. This misplacement shows. 25/1 odds. Ugh. May have to give up on this horse or buy some races.

All those guys are from Rotciv stables. Madman4 is my other barn to watch this week. It has:

Agrippina going in 0714 at 6/1. 8f turf try. Was 9.5f too far to go for this filly last time? Gotta hope so, or this horse just may not be able to cut it. Cost too many points!!!

Steady State First time out for this 3 year old Deputy Minister colt. Bred from Bart Accordian, I'm sure he'll suck. 5/2 odds looks good at the moment.

Jericho Velvet is in a 7f turf sprint. Going to see if I can make him win outside of starters.

The future of Madman4 stables is largely here. If Steady State and Agrippina suck, going to be a long rebuilding.

Madman999 and Madman3 have one runner each. Trying to give my horses more rest as per my previous posts.

Good luck in races this week. Going to watch the Kentucky cards! Second Derby in the sim. Going to be interesting!

Not too much for me to talk about. Biggest news is Sixth Deputy in the Iron Horse Series, race 1911. Going off at 5/1 from the 12 post wih a decent jock. Should be a nice run for him this week. Not facing any of Fletch's horses that I can tell.

Dastardly Saint is making his second start after running an impressive 98SP while breaking his maiden FTO. Put him back at 6f dirt again as I couldn't find anything better. 10/1 odds may be worth a small wager, but he could be a flash in the sim pan as well.

Hanging Rock the 4yo storm cat son is making a starter debut since I claimed him. 2/1 odds and is clearly capable of a win here.

Could people post a complete updated list of all the horses they've bred? It would be interesting to see how they have been panning out. 3 year olds and 2 year olds. I'll post when I get back to my computer later this evening.

I've got some favourites this week!...I have dropped a few horses in class meaning they will possibly get taken off me...Movie Dan(2/1) ,Voyage Grimacing(8/1)Not a fav but i think should go okay),and Slewpy Coupe (9/5)all drop into low level claim races...

I still didn't have the heart to drop Shazil into claimers yet, and he is at 14/1...Next time, if he doesn't do anything...

Song bird City,A 2yo homebred, makes his debut this week...Rated at 9/2 in a very even betting race...I sure hope he shows something!

I'm also hoping Wet Beer Belly(9/2) can back up again and match the 98sp of his last start...I tried to get him into another 7f race but got shut out so he is going at 6.5 instead...I am thinking somewhere around 8f may be his best distance but I'm going to have to wait a few more weeks to find out...

Paunchi's horses tries again in the allowance ranks...He is another that is going to struggle in the allowances....Especially IF i can get him up to open class ranks...As has been pointed out, there is not a lot of future for these sort of horses unless they burst out and suddenly go 105-110sp...Even then, i saw an allowance race this week where several of the horses had gone 115-117sp in recent times history...

Parade Shooting is in a 16f stakes race...He was looking fairly good for finishing ITM when i entered him but several other real good horses entered afterwards...At 31/1 he ain't looking too hot now!...

Danger Tow looks to be the most likely to get a win...He is going 12f this week, which he hasn't done before....Hopefully he will get out front as usual and just leave the others to it...

You may have noticed a lot of "hoping" in there!...After the last few weeks i don't have a lot of confidence in any of my charges this week!...Just crossing fingers...

Good luck everyone...

Sixth Deputy wins his 2nd heat of the Iron Horse to go along with his first leg win. Just one more to go to sweep the contest. 14f for the third leg.He has never been raced even close to that distance so who knows what will happen.

Hanging Rock wins his race as well running a nice race.

Water Blaze was the biggest shock. He pulled in his first win breaking his maiden in either a MSW or an MC. I can't remember now.

Dasardly Saint was a bit of a dissapointment coming in 3d or 4th but I was expecting it. I really didn't want to run back at the same distance, but it was all I could find.

Sixth Deputy won round two! Wu-hoo!
I see Hanging Rock had no competition.

Parade Shooting(gb) with a 100 speed over 16f . . . wow. You've got a real horse there. Can't believe that wasn't good enough for a win. Danger Tow mopped up for you to make up for it, at least.

My Rotciv stables went 6-2-2-zip. Any week that I get two wins in a stable isn't bad. But I wasn't happy overall. No 100 speed runners. Ballroom Blitz got killed, indicating that the era of 3 year old only starter-restricted races (open) may be over. That race had some competition in it.

Ms. Secretive proved she can make 9f, for an easy win. She now has 4 wins in 5 starts for me. Yeah, I know. Cheapie easy pickings. But that's the best record of any homebred I've ever had.

I was shocked that Honey Bunny didn't win. I trained her for 3 weeks out, but she came Sharp one week early, so I pushed it. Probably shouldn't have.

Want to see an amazing race? Check out 1383.2314. I won't tell you the outcome, since it will ruin the suspense. Incredible. Babified Opossum was my interest in the race.

My newest homebred -- Steady State from Bart Accordian cranked my best-ever FTO homebred run -- 84.3 -- 3 year old. Yeah, I know. That's still kinda weak, and he finished 4th. But given the performances of my other homebreds, I'm thankful for whatever I can get.

Agrippina totally flopped in her 3rd race. Jericho Velvet is giving me fits. Retooling Madman4 may take a lot of work.

BTW, I bred another horse in Madman999 (which had 1 win in 1 start this week in a claimer) . . . Green Desert x Halo x Irish River . Should be a 2 year old. My luck with these quality-sired horses HAS to change eventually . . . doesn't it????

That sounds like a nice breeding Madman. Hopefully he/she will be a runner.

That was quite a race! Thanks for sharing. The lead really went back and forth.

4 wins in 5 starts is awesome for a homebred. Is that one you bred? I'll have to check her out.

I got Green Desert for 171, Halo for 184 and Irish River for 209. Total cost was 459. Kind of pricey, but compared to recent markets . . .

Zarb's Pass came back "INJURED" today. Only my second ever horse that was totally injured. He's a useful claimer-type. But I'm not sure I want to wait around for that . . . decisions, decisions. If I was a good trainer, I would put him into the auction, and claim a new horse. I'm tempted to breed right over him.

Of course, this is Madman999 that just put in the breeding for the aforementioned horse, meaning it has 3 two year olds in its barn!! UGH.

I think I'll be a good guy and put him in the auction and then try to get a claimer . . .

I was very high on a number of claimers this week, and didn't get any of them. Sigh . . .

Congrats on sixth deputy, Stlcards. I have Lightning Passing, and English Axer on the lower half of the top 10, but neither are routers(especially 14 furs) so I won't even come close to catching you. I am hoping you sweep the darn thing. On a side note I went 31- 4-9-1 over the weekend. Pepi Dan got smoked in the Bluegrass sprint. Pub Frazzetto layed an egg for no apparent reason. Pricey Courage posted a nice 103.7 to take second in his first attempt on dirt. I also hit an MCl with a homebred that I threw together last week, so I racked up some nice points on that. Overalll, it was a great weekend of racing.

Looking at the tables above, I think we didn't do to bad: Total Gurupie races was 83-17-17-3 with 237896 dollars won, and 594 pts earned. Not bad.

Well, "proof" is a strong word. But it looks like we had a good week.

Anyone know why my new homebred's name is "Irish Green II" instead of "Irish Green"?

I did a SSS search for Irish Green and it is neither in the horse database nor in the sire list for the sim. Dang, dang, dang.

At any rate, Irish Green II is a new 2 year old male homebred. Green Desert x Halo x Irish River, 459 BP, $5,000,000 CPU, and RTG! status. Strangely, I have a good feeling about this horse. Green Desert should bring a lot of speed, and the Dam-side endurance. I say "Strangely" because I don't think Halo x Irish River is the strongest dam-side possible, and Green Desert isn't the strongest sprint influence. Nevertheless, I just feel like my crappy homebred streak has to end. . .

Unbelievable. About 10 of my runners came up sharp this week, but I'm only going to be running about 6 horses. And almost all of them are 2 year olds!

In Quest of Gold, Wood Nymph, Red Summer, Irish Green II, Perfect Storm Too . . . plus 3 year old bargain homebred, Maximum Prospect.

Going to be a rather boring week -- get to watch all my two year olds flop . . . of course, with lousy sires like Rainbow Quest, Woodman, Summer Squall, and Green Desert, you'd expect these horses to be getting whooped. Sarcasm.

Yeah, I agree Madman. What a bunch of lame sires. But we can't all get Stephen Got Even, Delaware Township, and Awesome Again (the sires of the top rated 2yo colts so far).

I just came back from the breeding shed myself. Put Event Of The Year in the pen with my horse Brass Ones (had to give him a sex change first and pay off the local officials here to allow a 4yo to be bred) but hopefully all will go well. The lineage of the new baby will be Event of the Year x Dixieland Band x Prized and will be called Dixie's Prized Event (my grandma's name was Dixie and I have a daughter with a middle name of Dixie, so I really wanted to breed with Dixieland Band in it). Prized is out of Kris S and should have good Stamina. Dixieland Band should bring speed, and Event of the year is out of Seattle Slew who seems to work well with Dixieland Band. In other words - who knows?!?!?

Man, I thought i was going to steal that stakes race with Parade Shooting...I didn't realize that it was a 200k race either...100sp is good going though...Competition is getting tougher in the marathon races?...

As you said , Madman, Danger Tow made up for it , cruising to his win over 12f...These starter alowance races have been a walk in the park for him, in general...I wonder how much further i can push him, distance wise...

I got a final "hoorah!" from Return Car before i lost him...I picked up Our Officer in his place...He's an 8yo, lightly raced horse so hopefully i can at least get a few claim wins out of him...

Slewpy Coupe was the other winner last week...8/16 itm which boosted me a great deal!

A couple of disappointing runs though...Wet Beer Belly flopped as did my new homebred, Song Bird City...48sp ugh!...I am thinking(and hoping a lot!) that he might need more ground...

Great traing with Sixth Deputy, STL...I will be rooting for him to bring home the gold in the final leg!...

Stephen Got Even is top of the rankings?...Dang, i should've bred one from him earlier(I still do intend to bred one sooner or later, might be a wee bit harder now though)....Instead, I bred a High Yield x Carson City x Private Account colt last week...His name is Swiss Account II(Made the same mistake Madman...Should've known there would be a sire with that name out there somewhere!)...He cost me just under 1000pts so he better be good!...I have been watching the ticker for the past few weeks and by Wednesday/Thursday, both High Yield and Carson City have gone , so i thought i just had to get in there and do it...He is sharp and will be making his debut this week(I seem to have had a number of sharp homebreds come into the stable for some reason)...

As for this week Chief Coy will maybe have another try in a graded race(Gr3-7f this time)...Another 12 will be in various races from the lowest level claimers up to open allowance...I really need to get more horses running if I am to try and avoid the drop in the GSR comp.!

Stephen got Even. Who the heck is that?

Seattle Slew just died. No more 2 year olds from him. . .

Event of the Year should be a good one. Dixieland Band has experienced success so far with this 2 year old crop, so that should maybe be a good mix.

I'm not too familiar with High Yield, cab. Sounds like it was pricey, so it better be good!

Overall, the bargain breeds are dominating the 2 year old ranks. I think and HOPE this is because he programs the awesomely bred horses to improve, whereas bargain basementers don't as much. Who knows. Just a theory. Zgreat warned me about that issue, however . . .

Nevertheless, depressing. Not to mention my 3 year old crop. Gone West, Miswaki, Quiet American, Deputy Minister, Summer Squall . . . and the fastest race has been 84. Sigh.

BTW, I forgot to add Polish Numbers to my list of failed 2 year olds. Granted, he was bred using the breeding line of another horse. But the previous horse had gone triple digits . . . Sigh. Depressing. As I said earlier, this week will be "homebred" week for me. Mike gets to rub it in my face . . .

Madman - You've had an 84 from a 2yo homebred?

How would you like a Storm Cat x Forty Niner x Nijinsky II horse? That would be High Yield. I have been thinking about using him since cab first brought him to our attention a little while back in his breeding price = bp theory.

Hahaha. No. That 84 is the best out of my THREE YEAR OLD CROP! Well, I should say the crop of horses I bred AS three year olds . . . Kind of cheating there, since I'm counting three 2 year olds I bred right at the end of last year.

Obviously, my fastest 3 year old homebred is Secret Society who has run a 96.4 and a 96.2. But I was talking about horses I've bred recently. Plus, I view that as a total fluke. First horse ever bred, and I'm not sure he's actually mid-90's capable, he's thrown so many stinkers at me lately.

Holy macarel. Storm Cat x Forty-Niner x Nijinsky II. WOW. Yep, worth the test!

Fastest 2 year old? I've had a few in the mid to low 60's. I think the fastest is a 66. Gotta look up which one did that.

Here are my +60 two year olds:

Black Time Senor 62. Not my hombred. As I remember well! :(

In Quest of Gold 66 over 6f on turf. Followed by a 56 on dirt. Hoping the drop-off was because of drop from 6 to 5f. Would make sense, since Rainbow Quest brings some endurance, IIRC.

DANG! That's it! Only 1 homebred going 60+. Geez.

Next closest is Perfect Storm Too who will be running in an Allowance race this weekend. He broke his maiden in a Maiden Claim race with a 58. Won by a nose, however, so I think this is the best he can do. Bargain breed. Not sure why I wasted my time. I think I was thinking he'd be a 3 year old, but I couldn't get a 3 yo and just went ahead and got a 2 year old, not thinking that a bargain bred 2 year old makes little sense . . .

Hi guys. I haven't posted about this last week yet -- but just noticed that something has been added recently that I missed entirely. "Block Claims"? ????? On the Ridings Options page? OK, I give up -- what is it? Can't find any explanation on Mike's pop-up page.

Toral,
My understanding is that you check that box to prevent a horse from being entered in a claimer by accident (ie typo)

River of Gold Again looks top quality, StL! Cool. Glad to see at least one of us has a potential homebred!

Thanks Madman, hopefully she'll continue to improve. Given the success (ie lack thereof)of breeding by lineage I am considering breeding a few horses by name or maybe theme based. Since I like to golf maybe a Fairway Topper x Green Desert to get Fairways and Greens. Seems to be just as good of a chance to get a runner using that strategy. My one name based breed so far using Little Missouri as the Sire has turned out to be one of my best homebreds so far!

There are still some decent sires left for 3yo breeding. Question: If I breed to a mare (eliminating horse) today, and then race the horse on Saturday, does that nullify the breeding or would it still go through?

The breeding would still go through.

The only exception would be if you place the horse in a claimer AND then lose it. That breeding would not work, since you would no longer own the mare.

FWIW, last 2 weeks Green Desert dropped to a minimum of around 171 before being used. If you can wait, do it.

This week, sires seemed to go a bit quicker, however. Not sure why. But the market is definitely starting to lighten up a bit. Maybe because everyone and their brother already has at least one 2 year old . . . except Madman4, of course :(
