Not much going for me this week.

Hero Grub is about my only noteworthy entry. Decided to try a short sprint at 5f for fun. 7/5 odds in Nevada in this nw4x race. Figured I'd try to finish off her conditions before trying a possible stakes race in the future.

Only 9 horses going this week, as the profusion of 2-year-olds in my barns and 6 stable vacancies cut down on my number of entries. (The auction should remedy part of this problem, though, as I've already won 2 and am going for 6!)

What do I have interesting this week? Hmm. Well, Mine Devastation returns after a layoff and attempts to get back into 100 territory as the 3/1* favourite in a N4X allowance in South Carolina 7005. Napkin Kicking returns to turf sprinting after one of my distance experiments but at 15/1 in PA 1212.

I had to toss Main Mast CB into the allowance ranks after he ran an 87 for me on turf -- like as if any of the horses I breed could do that? He's at 14/1, so he'll probably be back in the claiming ranks soon, and hopefully out of my stables.

I notice the CB horses I get in claims tend to be set to run from the lead. I wonder if that is part of their formula?

Another good 3-year-old, Nail Endangering, tries a starter in TN 7405 and goes off at 3/1. I'll alter this one between starters and allowances, as I hope she (#70203) has something of a future; her 92 on 9.5 furlongs of turf last out was something of an eye-opener!

Good luck to all.

I've got 6 horses, almost all basically newbies going at reasonably low odds. In other words, I'm going winless this week.

Also, my 2 year old with a win got screwed over by me. My program didn't recognize "non-winner of ONE over the last year" for the allowance race I tried to enter him in, and he got the boot! UGH. What idiot would create a race for 2 year olds with that condition?

Oh well. I'm not complaining. Every horse in there is going to earn a big "ZERO" in BP's this week, at least.

Basically, I'm taking the sim off this week. Between everything else, I'm going to be taking it a lot lighter until June. Might even rest my horses totally next week.

14 going round for me...Two 2yo's making their debuts....Swiss AccountII goes off at 3/1 and Astle's Double , my Aussie bred goes off at 51/1(ouch!)...Also, Sky Mining is trying to go better than her last start!...

Chief Coy is going around in a stakes race at Montana....He *should* go okay there i think...Decided against entering him in the graded race...Also in a stakes race is Bee Stacking...He will be outmatched but i am struggling to find competitive races for him..

Others that might go okay are Craw Chop , Mr Bert and Rapid Clam...The rest i am just hoping!

Good luck everyone!

Not much going on. Only one winner -- Light Jupiter with a $46,200 purse win in an A2x race. Makes him one of my few $100,000 horses ($100,000 of winning for my barns, that is). Sal at the Bell is the only other such horse that I can think of right off. Not sure.

Irish Green II finished a mediocre 5th, but in 64.8. My homebreds suck. Did I say that before? In Quest of Gold gave a decent effort over a good turf distance, 65 or so.

Maximum Prospect -- a bargain 3 year old -- was raced in a C2L race, even though he didn't break his maiden. The idea was that the same-track bonus -- 5 points -- almost cancels out the non-maiden penalty -- 7 points. This, coupled with the hope that if he is not claimed I also get a bonus of 40% of his first race's points, means that it was ironically optimal for me to race him in a non-maiden race. Seems stupid . . . just have to see if he got claimed . . . Finished 3rd for second race in a row.

American Mint is improving a bit with extended distance. Unfortunately, he has to break his maiden first. 9.5f was in personal best 83.1. Sigh. Finished 2nd, however, so at least he's scoring points and cash.

Miswaki Music is proving to be almost totally worthless. 5th place finish today in low-low tag maiden claimers. Gotta hope someone takes her off my hands.

6 races, 10 GSR points, 1.67 points/race. Kind of low for me, and with this few races, going to hurt. Oh well. Giving my horses a break. Maybe they will reward me with superior performances in the future.

GEEZZ!! The week I only have 6 runners is the week 2 MORE of my horses come up INJURED. Unbelievable. In Quest of Gold is out; Sal at the Bell is out. My best 2 year old (whatever that is worth) and best 4 year old. Ugh. Pathetic.

Maximum Prospect also got claimed, so that was basically a waste of time.

Got a bunch of horses that are itching to run this week, however. So it will be better. Interested to see Silence in Skogby running. Plus, all these horses that have had extra rest . . .

Unreal.

I just bred Sunday Prince. Sunday Silence x Machiavellian x Herbager.

I really have no idea what I'm doing with breeding anymore. I'm just throwing sires together and seeing what sticks. I know that there's a bit of inbredness here from the Halo line. But I don't know if it is "too" much IRL, and I don't think the sim cares. Hoping the Mr. P. in the Machiavellian line will save it. Who the heck knows???

446 points. Going to be a 3 year old. Have 2000 points in Rotciv, and gotta use 750 of them before the end of July. Which means I've got to breed at least two horses like this. I figure I'll breed a 2 year old later in the summer.

Meanwhile, I figured I'd take advantage of the 206, 195 prices for Sunday Silence and Machiavellian, respectively. Herbager came it at a rock-bottom 90. If anyone is looking for a high quality DDS or DS to add some endurance, he's a real bargain right now, IMO. Been that way for awhile. Not that I have a clue about breeding.

A pleasing day. Won an Allowance race, and allowance wins have been come by recently. Who won, you ask? Mine Devastation, star of Toral Farms?. Nope, ran 7th. Napkin Kicking? Nope, ran 3rd. Rigidly Honk? Nope, ran 2nd. Though he did get a 99.8, and 100s have been so scarce for me recently that I'll count it.

It was Main Mast CB who won a $32.3 allowance running a 90 at a mile on the turf at 3. Geesh.

Nail Endangering also picked up a starter win. And Arctic Skunk won, though he was claimed, to my surprise.

And my stables are rejuvenated with 5 auction and 1 claim pickups, all horses I think I can milk a claiming win out of. Ah, life is good.

Larot is up to 2472 BPs, which is kind of ridiculous. I want to spend 750 almost exactly on some kind of 2-year-old before July. And then *after* July I will breed a classic 2-year old, with money no object (within reason).

Stats for week (9) 3-2-1-1-1-1.

Madman using Sunday Silence at the price sounds like a good deal. I had considered using him myself, but am thinking a 2yo might be better, as existing 3yo's should have a big advantage over newborns at this point in the year, but just not sure. I may end up with a 3yo anyway as the 2yo's are gone for the sires I'm after (Red Ransom) pretty early and I really need to wait for a bargain. May use another sire if the price is right.

Hero Grub only ran a 95 in her 5f sprint, which was still good enough for 2nd. Came back to the barn sharp.

Purple Park got me a win in her maiden claim race before being lost.

Nothing else to speak of except I also lost Dinky Boy in a claimer, but not much there other than breeding anyway. I do have more sharp for next week anyway.

Wow, I just noticed I had a horse come up injured this week that didn't even run in a race :(

I'm pretty she was on layoff still from a previous injury.

Sal at the Bell was "Needs Rest" going into this week, and INJURED going out of it. It sucks. Zarb's Pass got injured last week, and is already up to LAYOFF! this week. Kind of sucks.

BTW, my logic for breeding a 3 year old is that it is still early in the year for a 2 year old. Unbridled Fury was bred right at the very end of last year's 2 year old season. I'm getting sick of seeing my 2 year olds sit around and waiting for them to get ready to run. 3 year olds don't have that problem.

I don't think there is any penalty to starting them out late.

I got a filly myself (2yo). Dixie's Prized Event (Event of the Year x Dixieland Band x Prized). Maybe this one will be the winner? Well, at least she hasn't lost yet! There's always hope, at least until that first race.

Oh boy...I'm in the red....I't doesn't help much when you don't get a winner from 14 starters...geeez...Nothing of any significance came from my runners this week...Onwards and upwards to next week I guess...I did pick up Sweden dancer for a buck(lol)at the auction...He's a 4yo who has only one start so I thought "what the heck"...He's worth giving a proper tryout and I certainly won't lose anything(except a stall place!) ...Picked up 3 claimers as well...My Thrown, by Private Terms, a 3yo with only 3 starts..Thors Idol, a 4yo who has only 3 starts and never been tried on turf and Boon Grass...This guy has been around for a while but with a 3.5k tag, I'm hoping he may go okay in the starter ranks...

If you think your 2yo's stink, Madman , take a look at Astle's Double! A 34sp...ugh!!...It's terribly frustrating when you see so many others having success with their breeding and you can't seem to get anywhere...I read on the NWRC message board where one guy has had 11 winners from 2yo's so far this year!...Seems to me that not only do you need some knowlege about the subject, you also need a whole bunch of luck...Not unlike real life though I guess...

cab 14 -- 11 winners. Geesh. Wonder how many stables that guy own. Unbelievable.

I've had ONE winner in probably 20 starts. And that one winner was a puny MC $30K tag. Talking 2 year olds only here, of course. Pathetic.

Although, if you think about it, there are 14 horses in each 2 year old race. So I guess I'm running just worse than par for the course. I just wish I was at least running faster speed ratings.

Regarding your 34, I dunno. I think I'd rather have extremely awful performances than mediocre ones. Awful performances are easy to improve upon -- try the horse on a variety of surfaces and distances. Maybe retry once or twice if you are masochistic (because occassionally the horse CAN throw a shoe, and you don't know it in this game). And then move on.

But what do you do when your horses run 50's all the time? That's right around the median speed for 2 year olds. UGHUHGUGH. They *might* improve, so you can't dump them, yes? Sigh.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that a 34 provides you with some valuable information -- your horse stinks at that surface/distance.

A 50ish means nothing.

Just giving you a silver-lining :)

WEEK 1397:

Well, as I promised, I didn't spend much time in the sim this week. Only 1 win, a number of bad races, however. No biggie.

Notable performances:

Ms. Secretive won her 4th consecutive race (a personal best winning streak) running 84 speed on dirt -- guess she is indeed surface versatile. Only 31K in winnings in 6 runs, but getting 5 wins in 6 tries . . . you just don't do that every day or with every horse. She's made a mark in my barns. I can't believe what a fluke created her, too -- the bargain breed low-tag claimer experiments! She's by far and away the most successful one of those I already have. She's probably returned 80 points on a 25 point investment . . . Or maybe more.

Secret Society -- did a 6.5f experiment. 6th in a Sprint stakes -- got another 90+ speed, however. Giving him a three-week break and going back up to his previous stake win distance -- one mile even. See if I can't coax another win out my first-ever homebred.

That's about it. I lost Babified Opossum for $50,000. He was a $5k claimer, and, IIRC, has the most starts of any Gurupie horse -- 25. WOW. I've been in the sim for awhile is what that means, I guess! He was 3-9-1-2-3 in 25 starts, earning $63,821 for rotciv stables. 18/25 in top 5. Would have been a lot better if I had figured out that he could run routes earlier. Not a top tier horse, but, heck, for a $5k claimer, you can't complain!

Gotta put some bids in for horses next week. Barns are starting to get a bit thin . . .

BTW, madman4 was totally waxed this week -- 0/3, and looked bad doing it. Did I say that that barn was starting to look bad and needed to be retooled???? YIPERS . . .

Nothing much for me this week either. Time to unload some more horse flesh in claimers I think. Ally's Logic (probably my best homebred to date) does not like turf. Finished way back with a dismal speed. Dastardly Saint ran a 100SP in his 3d race coming in second. I was very pleased with his performance. French Iron got an easy win in a 30K claimer at 12f with only a 68SP and no one claimed him (why would they). My newest 2yo filly Dixie's Prized Event came in 4th running a 57SP. Only at RTG and .97 effort. Country Jodie got a surprise win in a Allw*1M race running a 92SP. The horse that I thought would get me a win Rich Wine came in a distant 3d. Not much else to talk about this week. A number of sharp horses for the coming week though.

Really slow week here. Only 8 horses sharp; one didn't get in, and I forgot to enter one, leaving six.

Blaze Reveal, a $5501 auction pickup, did win his $10K claimer first time out.

And I was quite pleased by Ministry of Chaos's 2nd place finish in a 12 f turf starter. She's the one I bred for 19 pts last year to be a long-distance runner, lost in a claimer first time out, and got back this year. She does appear to be able to run long, which is what I bred her for. Even so, I've mismanaged her. I should have stuck her in a really cheap claimer to make her eligible for all starters before putting her in one.

Should have 17 or more runners next week. Barns full again for first time in a while. Clonebreeds Red Tory Theory and Blue Tory Theory should go head-to-head ( well not in the same race; they're different sexes.) BTW, checking, the 71 of Rusty Scabbard Now is my best 2-year-old performance this year.

A much better week for me...Only 3 winners and 8/14 itm but two of those winners were stakes races!...Pepi Undercut won a stakes race at BC over 8.5f on the turf..A slowish speed(95sp) but a win is a win!...Parade Shooting also won a stakes race at Iowa over 16f...A nice 99sp for him...Yankee Alphabet was the other winner...He had been on a long layoff after getting injured around Equinics time(I pushed him way too hard then)and he bounced back today to win and also joins the 100+sp club...

I did have a couple of injuries this week'however...Raindrop Mark and Thors Idol were both "Layoff" after todays races...I think i will throw Raindrop Mark into the Auction...Hopefully someone else can get something out of him...He is just frustrating me...I think he does have a chance of getting a win or two more, but i can't get them out of him!...

If the second race is any gauge on how a horse is going to go, then Silics Gift isn't going to fare too well, unfortunately...A 55sp for her this week after a 60sp(and win) on her debut...Pretty disappointing(As all my 2yo's have been)...

A summary of my 2yo's so far:

Silics Gift... 1/2..A best of 60sp...Did manage to get a win though!
Sky Mining...0/2...2 starts...51sp and 52sp
Swiss Account II...0/1...63sp on debut finishing fourth...
Fancy Show...0/1...63sp on debut, also finishing fourth
Songbird City...0/1...48sp on debut...
Astle's Double...0/1...34 on debut...

Overall, a very unimpressive lot...The cheapest to breed, Fancy Show, has the best speed figure...
1/8(races)itm..Geez!...

Have to finish on a bright note..:)...Parade Shooting now has 192k in winnings...All but 24k or so have been won since i've had him...A great investment for 13.5k and 5bp's...

cab Congratulations on your stakes wins, cab. BTW, what is a "stake"? My horses don't seem to be familiar with that kind of race. ;) :( With Kangaroo Minstrel off form I can't remember the last time I had a serious chance in a stake. And things don't seem to be getting better, either. I cling to the belief that I have a couple of 3-year-old claim pickups that will be stake-worthy once I run thru their allowance and starter elibilities. And my claimer types do keep grinding it out. To gain BPs, so next year I can, ah, breed another group of very expensive and well-bred loser 2-year-olds, and then, ah....????!!!!

LOL, Toral, well said. I just received my newest "hopeful". This time went straight to a 3yo. Red Lightning, 3yo colt. Bred over Sally Plow to get Red Ransom x Majestic Light x Caerleon.

I'm considering putting Hero Grub in a stakes race this week to see what she is made of.
