Not sure if anyone is still running their horses or not. The sim seems to have hit a lull for me, at least. Engine is still good, but there are the well discussed "issues" that dampen enthusiasm by anyone except for the 16-year olds with tons of time (and yes, I know many of the CB's are much older than 16 year olds. Talking about maturity level here).

At any rate, the main reason I'm posting is that Mike has announced "Big Changes" in the sim this weekend. I'm going to try to pay attention and check out what he's got in store.

One change already in place is the "click-point" issue. You now have to log on to get your click points, which is a total bummer for those of us who never log-on. The good news is that I think I can automate the procedure, however :). Gonna wait to see what he does. But I haven't "logged on" to the site for over a year now, and I don't intend to start now :).

In racing news, my stables suck, pure and simple. There's really nothing remarkable to report. Ms. Secretive has won her 6th race in a row. OK, that's remarkable, but I am under no illusions. These runs are all in Filly-3 year old restricted starter allowances. It's kind of fun to rack the wins from the bargain bred, but it's not earth-shattering.

Outside of her, however, I CAN'T BUY A WIN! Tow's Terms is back and healthy. But he stunk it up on the track.

Of course, all this may be related to the fact that I'm not taking the time to select jockey's anymore . . . hmmmm. That WOULD explain all my fourth place finishes and so forth. If you look at my record, it is very strange . . . lots of firsts and seconds and fewer lower finishes. The last few weeks I think that has flipped. Gotta be the jockeys.

Yeah, gotta be the jockeys. Can't be the trainer. :)

I'm still plugging away, much like always. 2-1-1 in 13 starts. My wins now almost all coming from the low-class stock. Windy Pond won a $2K starter; Blaze Reveal, a cheap auction pickup, won his second for me today in a track-restricted $7.5 K claimer. Going to hang on and take Division 2 of GSR.

Kangaroo Minstrel finished second today, but it really looks like the 2001 Gurupie Horse Of The Year may be hitting the end of the line....Mine Devasation has never got it back together....

I have an ominous feeling about the changes coming up. Combine a recently-married sim owner...the disappearance of advertising from the sim...the succession of weird changes we've had this year...Not hope-inspiring.

I'm still battling away as well...I also, have been having a pretty lean time of it these past few weeks...My homebred 2yo's are absolutely horrible...I am really disappoointed...Silic's Gift did run second today in a owner restricted stakes race but even that doesn't give me too much hope...I don't give a lot of credence to owner restricted races...The big question is; do you plug away with them and hope they come right as they get older and more experienced or do you dump them in the claimers and start again(with bargain breds now!)??...I feel for sure that they would get claimed so I guess i will plug away with them for a while..

It will be interesting to see what changes are made...Mike did say when he got back from holiday,he was feeling refreshed and vitalised and there were going to be some changes in the wind...I guess this is the start...You are suggesting "paying to play" may be coming up Toral?..

cab well,I am thinking something like that,yes...or at least some other money-making option that is more intrusive than the ones Mike has designed so far (which have worked out very well, I think)....

The SSB site is always trolling for new ways to make money as well, as you now know. BTW, thanx for kicking my butt in that Ex game... it helped me figure out how to configure my team ;)

I ran two horses last week and none this week. With Mike's vacation I decided it would be a good time to rest rather than try to figure out the schedule. My new Forty-Niner homebred in the Devil01 stable won her first start in a 2yo maiden running a 69. I'm petty busy now and don't have as much time to devote. I gave away 1 stable (allyfarms) and sent all but 3 horses to auction from the gurupie stable. Kept some I thought I might breed with, but I think I'll dump them into claimers and close the stable for good. I started racing more horses in claimers and will continue that for awhile without putting in any claims until I feel comortable entering races each week.

Been logging on, still no news. It doesn't seem like Mike to advertise "Big Surprises" like this and not deliver. This is the second "hint" of things to come . . .

For the record, I didn't think about the financial angle. From StlCards' observation awhile back, I would imagine the HR sim is paying for itself (although I would also imagine that breeding might slow down given all the frustration right now with newbies). B-ball, on the other hand, might be totally different. Dunno.

My concerns were more centered along the other lines that Toral mentioned -- namely that I haven't liked a single significant change he's made lately. Ok, well, the auction was nice. But I almost never use it. A number of the rule changes were frustrating to say the least. Even this click-point rule . . . don't see any advantage of it.

Thus, I'm really anxious not only to see what he's done, but what he's thinking about the future of the sim.

Last comment: he mentioned, IIRC, that he has ideas that will unite the sim . . . I don't think any ideas regarding increased financing would serve that purpose.

Well. Look slike I am in the same boat as most here. I am having a hrad time finding a single win. All of my horses that I thought had star potential are dropping eggs left and right. My best homebreds are the ones that are have done at a bargain level. Out of 8 active stables, I have 16 slots taken up by 2 year olds that were too expensive to give up on until their three year old careers. I don't think I have had one 500+ B.P. horse race over a 59. That is including about 6 that cost well into the 800's. Oh well. Just a game after all :)

I'm glad it helped you Toral, cause it didn't really help me too much..lol...I am just crossing my fingers this season...I feel that my W/L record last season was not a fair indication of my teams capabilities...The competition in my conf. was relatively easy last season which led to my team over-achieving...The post season indicated that, where i only won one game...

Maybe he is going to allow everyone to combine stables?...Not much point speculating though i guess!

Yeah, my 2 year old ritz class sucks rocks. 7 homebreds, 1 bargain bred is the only one to break his maiden. He sucks, however, at 59 max.

In Quest of Gold -- Layoff! -- 66
Wood Nymph -- 46 ugh.
Enigmatic -- 70 -- ok, not totally pathetic
Red Summer -- 56, sigh
Irish Green II -- 64 in first try
Black Tie Senor -- $6m horse -- 72

OK. Maybe I can't complain, because only 1 is a total flop. But still frustrating. Also, when coupled with my 3 year old JOKES, it's a mess. I'm not going to even list all my 3 year old horses.

I will say that I have three that have broken 90:
American Mint 92 at 8f,D. 0-4-1 in 10 starts. Ugh.

Ms. Secretive 94 at 8f, D. 7-0-0 in 8 starts. OK, this is cool, but, honestly, I don't think she can do much better.

Secret Society 96 at 7 and 8f, D. 3-0-2 in 15 starts. It's that W-P-S that bites.

Pretty happy with those 3. None of them were THAT expensive. My expensive horses SUCK. Agrippina, Key West, Steady State, Ice Princess, Silent Prince, Miswaki Music (no longer in existence), etc., etc. UGH.
-----------------

Still no word on sim "improvements". Gotta wonder what's going on.

Toral, I bow to your savvy assessment of the situation

Dear Players :

Due to reasons to be discussed in the following, we at SimulatedSports.com have decided to eliminate third-party advertising as a source of revenue (at least temporarily).

Although it will cost us to eliminate this form of advertising, we are in agreement with many players that the current advertising situation sometimes gets out of hand. Our attempts to protect our players from the more obnoxious forms of advertising has proven impossible, as most advertisers now demand a "pop-up" or "pop-under" to be shown as well as a banner.

What does this mean and how can you help?

Most importantly, please note that we will continue to offer our games free of charge. However, we will more than ever rely on users to utilize our pay options to the best of their financial ability. As always, we recognize that some people are in better situations than others to financially contribute to the site’s well-being, and we would encourage everyone to remember that point. As you hopefully know, we offer several "pay options" for each game. If you have been interested in trying some of them out, now is the time to act. To find out more about these paying options, click here for horseracing or here and here for basketball. We plan on adding several more option soon. In keeping with our overall philosophy, pay options are intended to provide a product worth purchasing, but not tilt the competitive balance between utilizers and non-utilizers.

We also plan to continue to accept direct advertising. Although we don’t currently receive a lot of this type of advertising, we are open to selling our potential ad space directly to companies/people interested in purchasing it. If you or someone you know are interested in advertising with us, you can contact us at advertising@simulatedsports.com.

Finally, we will be maintaining a page of sponsors that do provide revenue to us if you take advantage if the offers on their sites. This assortment of CPA (cost-per-action) links will include links to online merchants such as Amazon.com. By purchasing items you would normally purchase through our "Online Store", you will be supporting our site. We may also produce an assortment of SimulatedSports.com merchandise.

We are not guaranteeing that we have seen the last of third-party advertising. However, until either the third-party ad industry picks up significantly or we can come up with a fair/unobtrusive method for administering this type of advertising while making it profitable to the site, this seems like the most logical step to take.

Thank you for sticking with us!
