Just an idea to keep us all motivated as we watch our horses grow.

This is meant to be the complete list of every Gurupie horse who has broken a 90 speed rating. If I'm missing any of your horses, please post. Each horse will be listed only once, although if you want we could track the number of times they break 90 or something.

If this list gets too long (hope and cross fingers!), then we can increase the limit. But my Super Sim Searcher makes it pretty easy to find these . . .

Congrats to Midget Talent and Straight Time for hitting the Gurupie board for the first time this week. Midget Talent's performance was the fastest Gurupie MSW victory on record, and Straight Time was the fastest to date, and the first non-sprint 90+ rating.

We're still waiting for the first 100+ speed, the first 3 yo MSW victory (I think, please correct me on this), and the first Graded Stakes win.

Comments? Feedback? Should we track this sort of thing?

      Sun, Jun 03, 19:52 		It's a fantastic idea, even if it's a list I'll never be on. Odds on the horse would be an interesting addition (Midget Talent will stand out. People will look at the list perpetually and wonder if JKaye had been feeding him more than carrots.), and placing, as there will be lots of 90s that don't win as time goes on.

Maybe the first 25 or so could be kept as a "master list" of the originals and a longer list with higher threshold could be maintained over time. Just a thot.

      Wed, Jun 20, 02:17 		Hmmm. Any comments on the fact that it appears to be a LOT easier to get fast speed ratings on Dirt than it does on Turf?? Ideas about how to make a "fair" Gurupie Ace list given that information?

I noticed this phenomenon awhile ago, but it was brought back to my attention on the main message board today. Further, I was looking through the list of fastest *computer horses, and it was HEAVILY dominated by dirt horses. Of course, that also has to do with the fact that there have been many more dirt races run in the history of the sim -- especially early on when *computer horses were a bigger factor. . .

      Wed, Jun 20, 10:15 		Personally, I think i would leave it a lone in the meantime...A good speed rating is a good speed rating at the moment to all of us, no matter what surface it is on...If you are going to discriminate dirt versus turf,the same argumemt can be said about 3yo males versus 3yo fillies/dirt/turf or older horses versus 3yo's on dirt/turf or 2yos dirt/turf etc etc...

With the smallish group that we have at the moment i would think that that just the +90's or +100's(in time)or whatever is sufficient..

Discriminate is probably too strong a word but it was the only one i could come up with at the moment..;)...
And iagree there is a heavy bias towards dirt races versus turf races(europe is the place to go if you have a turfer)..just the same as there is a heavy bias against having fillies/mares in your stable..

Plus, it's a LOT easier for me to keep a simple 90+ list or whatever.

I was thinking that we could do 85+ on turf. But that doesn't change things much -- although it does add Kangaroo Minstrel to the list (Toral2).

For now, I'll stick with the 90+ list. And Stakes winners, of course :). If anyone ever gets a DRAFTED or HOMEBRED horse to $100,000 in earnings, I think they should be added to an "ACE" list of some sort, as well. But I'll rely on you guys to tell me when that happens, since that's also harder for me to track.

      Sat, Jun 23, 13:22 		What a week! 1068 is the best Gurupie week yet! Just after getting shutout, we re-write the records!

I hope I got everyone. But we are getting so many stables, there's a good chance I might have missed your horses. If so, please post in the Week 1068 action thread.

To the news:

A newcomer to Gurupie stables is the first to break 100! Skin Jumping jumped to #1 overall in his first sprint of his career with a 101 allowance victory, putting madman4 on the boards for the first time. And check out those odds! He started at a 99/1 shot. His breeding is pure sprints (sire, dam-sire), but he'd never been tried in a sprint in 30 starts. Bet his previous owners are in shock.

Stock Geri from goatlocker stables just re-set the Gurupie 3 yo record, with an astounding 96.6 win in just her second race. Not only is this the first appearance by goatlocker, but this shatters the previous MSW record, set by Midget Talent in week 1047.

This also marks a dramatic improvement in the Gurupie-drafted record, taking those honors from Rakida's Plug, who drops to #3 after Chief Tom logged a 91.9 in the slop this week. That performance, coupled with a very solid 95.2 from Chief NOrthern makes larot stables the first (I think) to log two 90+ performances in a single week. Incredible.

Babified Opossum and Light Jupiter slugged it out in a South Carolina race, with Babified setting another 90+ personal best, and Light Jupiter just finishing shy of his 97.1 record.

All in all, an amazing Gurupie week!

      Sat, Jun 30, 12:53 		Toral2's Napkin Kicking Joins this Elite list in week 1075! He definitely did kick something. Never heard it referred to as a Napkin, however. :)

The only other change is that Rakida's Plug stated that he liked sloppy routes, although he didn't win.

I guess this was a week for Gurupie-Drafted horses.

      Tue, Jul 03, 06:59 		Feedback on this idea is somewhat appreciated, but you guys probably won't be able to understand why I've done this until all my research has been "published".

At any rate, I've come to the conclusion that this sort of list, without adjustments, is deceitful at best, and unfair at worst. Thus, I'm introducing a concept called a Madrating. This is a very simple adjustment, designed to take into account the competitive nature of the sim.

Basically, I take the Speed rating, and add 4 points to it if it's a turf-sprint or dirt-route. And I add twice that -- 8 points -- if it's a turf-route. Why, you ask? Well, these speed differences roughly correlate to the median differences of 3rd place finishers at various competition levels in the sim. Sometimes the 3rd place finishers have more dispersions, sometimes less. In fact, I think a 10 point adjustment for turf-routers could be justified on this criteria. However, I limited to an 8 points adjustment because of the limits of the 3rd place statistic.

At any rate, here is the new ADJUSTED table. Note that I'll still track 90+ speed overall ratings, since any quality horse should be able to break 90 on turf, even.

And, more pragmatically, we don't have that many 90+ horses yet. I'm also not sure which fletch stables to add, or whatnot. So comments on those sorts of issues would be welcome.

Or you can tell me to scrap this in favor of just the power ratings, but I think it helps a lot to have a speed listing -- it makes the creation of the power ratings easier. Although if it makes them more inaccurate, we should obviously discontinue this practice.

      Tue, Jul 03, 07:28 		Dang. OK, people. Keeping track of MAD ratings will be harder than regular ones. Please tell me if one of your horses should be on the 90+ MAD listing, but isn't. I maybe should add up the number of 90+ MAD ratings . . .

At any rate, this is why I wanted an EASY adjustment. There are two more horses who should be on this MAD listing . . .

Notice that I've also put the type of allowance race in the table. That gives you a better idea of the quality of the "place". In the case of a tie (Kangaroo), I chose the more prestigious finish.

      Tue, Jul 03, 07:33 		This list has 8 dirt sprinters, 6 dirt routes, 2 turf routes. You know, that's probably pretty darn close to the proportion of our runners. At least very close to the proportion of our runners who are any good. Which makes me think that this adjustment process might be OK.

Note: No Filly Adjustment (could be 1-2 points). No 3 yo adjustment (no idea how big that should be). No 2 yo adjustment (uh, huge problems with this). No Slop adjustment (if one is warranted, which is probably true).

      Tue, Jul 03, 16:17 		clairefarm, horsepimp, and horsepimp1 were all started in 2000. Although there is no rule against this (there are no rules at all, I suppose), I think I'm personally biased toward sticking with the other stables, since the earliest original Gurupie involvement was 942.

Otherwise, all the stables seem to be a go. But I don't know if we should limit to 4 or 8 or something. I don't want to arbitrarily rule on this, so I'd appreciate some overall Gurupie input.

If I was to pick, I'd pick the two stables that had 100+ runners (hahaha. Sleezy tactic just to get faster runners in Gurupie stables, sorry), plus a couple of others.

      Thu, Jul 05, 22:40 		I keep forgetting!...Pepi undercut should be on the "Mad rating" list...An 88.9sp over 8.5f on the dirt, although he only ran second and still yet to break his maiden..(wk 1068)..He's a 3yo drafted horse..
Hopefully he will make it to the 90+ list one day!!

      Sat, Jul 14, 13:10 		I should also note that the Earning rank is NOT comprehensive. For example, Agriculture Bomber has earned $41,825, good enough for 3rd on the above list. However, without a 90+ MAD, he's not included.
