Well, I've had several months off. Just wondering if anyone was still playing. Mike's going to making several tweaks.

I'm also going to be gone again for three weekends in a row in early August.

However, Ice Princess just clocked a 119 SP over 9.5f on turf. I'm not totally sure what I should do with her. I'm going to try to target her for 1859 ... hopefully she will come up sharp. I also don't know if that sort of speed rating is as good as it has been historically.

Any help or advice on training a real Graded Stakes calibre prospect would be appreciated. It would be interesting to hear how others are doing and if they have similar breeding success stories from last season.

I'm still slugging away just like before. Piling up BPs, larot still has over 2000 points, with basically no talent in the barn. Breeding has been cheap this year with no BP bonus; each of my barns should have at least one well-bred sprinter and one well-bred classic by the end of the year, most will have a third or even 4th. Not much skill in my barns Gold River II my only stakes winner this year, turned out to like 9 furlongs as 3-year-old. I did have a G3 show finish for one of my 2-year-olds in the Montana Futurity -- my first entry in a graded stake. Some of my 2-year-olds look better than last year's....

I'm definitely not the person to ask!

I've been having fun in GSR, scheming on how to win their claiming series championship. I think a couple of months ahead for each race, and start claiming likely entrants. I claimed 4 over a period of time for this week's race, for example (though you can only enter one). One if the track was wet; one good one; one slightly less good one but who has more wins and so can draw in if the field is crowded; one who got injured and so was sent to the auction.

The severe bidding caps have basically killed tip sheets, which I'm sorry about.

Mike's tweak hurting horses with lots of races bothers me. I don't care that the old-timers' horses have been running unrealistically well for too long; I'm concerned that Mine Devastation's future career (he's been cold for a while now) may be nasty, brutal, and short. I also picked up a horse with 76 career starts and was looking forward to nurturing towards the 100 mark in $2K claimers!

I was afraid, you'd dropped out, Madman. Though it would have made my run of Gurupie Eclipse Winners (Kangaroo Minstrel, Mine Devastation, so declared by me) sure! Ice Princess looks more likely than any of mine!

Since you've rested your horses, I'd be interested to hear if that seems to have 'rejuvenated' any that had been heavily raced before.

Well, I'm not back at full throttle ... I'm finding it difficult to get time for it. And, as I said, I'm going to be gone for three weekends in a row starting in August. I hope to get back to it after that.

One thing that really surprised me with the long layoff was that my horses almost universally came back sharp. Some -- like Ice Princess -- had good second runs. Most just stunk.

My stables really need to be re-tooled, I am guessing. Val's Desert is looking like his career is almost over.

We shall see, however. I haven't even downloaded the raceouts and pulled them into the SSS, so I can't really look up people's horses. :( Maybe eventually.

I was wondering whether you had a super-fast way to download the raceouts or whether it would take as long for you as for everyone else :)

I haven't updated the SSS for a few weeks but could send you a pile o' weeks by e-mail if that would be quicker.

Looks like lots of changes coming up. I didn't enter any races last week and only a few horses the last few weeks. Entered a few horses that were sharp at the last second this week.

Hopefully Madman can get back into the racing. I did see one of your horses entered a few weeks back. I might take it slow a few more weeks as I need a break right now. Had my better horses won some of the stakes I entered I wouldn't be needing a break now ;-)

Well, I'm going to be out of it for at least three more weekends ... then I can get back into it a bit.

I've got a fast download connection, so getting the raceouts isn't the hangup ... it's the danged SSS that has to parse each bloody file. Stupid programmers. Oh, wait. ;)

Good to see you're still hanging in there, as well, stl. There are indeed a lot of changes going on.
