Hello all,
I have recently acquired the defunct baseball simulation game, called Grandslambaseball. I just wanted to post here to see if there were any of the former patrons.

I'm a programmer and I've already started to sift through the code and it's quite a mess! I'm going to devote some time to try to fix all of the errors and get it running again. Please feel free to email me at least temporarily at gsbcommish@yahoo.com and I have been posting on the message board some of the information that I'm finding out. Have some patience as I attempt to ressurrect this once great game.

Thanks,
GSB Commish

Wow, there's a blast from the past. I loved GSB, very engaging.

I have one simple request - when you are sorting through the code, can you confirm or deny a long held suspicion: the playoffs/World Series games were "played" with a different code. I saw so many ridiculous upsets and unlikely happenings that I always thought they brought out a "special similuator" for the post season.

Very curious. Seattle Zen

I'm in the process of mapping out the entire simulation in flow chart, sorta like a road map of what is supposed to happen. I have gone over the entire simulation and can comment on the alleged playoff engine.

All games are run from the same program. There is definitely no special program for different parts of the season. Sounds like you experienced some bad luck. Probably the result of small data set which can produce anomalies. So this myth has been busted.

No, he's right. There were a ton of serious upsets, worse than the 1990 Reds sweeping the A's. Just about every league and just about every year.

Can you also confirm that the old commish went by "Bean Dip" and ran the Indians in league O2? They beat me in the ALCS 14 years in a row.

I would love if GSB came back. It was the best Baseball simulator by far. How long has it been gone now 3-4 years?

From what the last owners told me, the original owner, Mark Mosier sold it late 2002. Then the new owners ran it for a while? not sure how long. So I would say 2.5 years roughly it's been down. I've been informed of a lot of the history of the game although never really put a time scale to it. In fact, I don't know when the game first came out, but I can see the age of some of the files.

Also for Blue hen, I see some legacy data from the pre-Pay2Play era of GSB but there's no way I can tell if that was the old commish or not. Not all of that data was retained, but theres an unbelievable amount of data that was retained, like every game from every league that was ever played. Also, there's thousands of players for each league and all of that is stored. It's actually a pretty sizeable program at 300mb. Mostly comprised of the aforementioned files.

I'm going to change the index page so that people who don't have or forgot their logins will be able to access the Message Board.

The most intact league seems to be B, and I will probably be working with that league to figure out all the bugs. So if you see some movement, don't get too excited as I will be trying stuff.

I would love to get my hands on this data. I completely forgot how many championships my U2 team won but it would be fun as heck to relive them.

For the love of god, please do not bring this game back. I found out about it a year before it went down, got addicted and nearly lost my beautiful girlfriend because of it. I even spent that summer traveling through Central America and all I could think about the whole time was when I could get to the next Internet Cafe to check GSB scores and manage my team. Please, have mercy.

I stopped playing GSB around the time the original commish sold
it off but I had already paid for lifetime subscriptions for a
couple teams I was managing. How are you going to handle
these fully paid inactive accounts?

Blue Hen-

Still having trouble accepting the fact that you were the third best owner in O2?

I tried to join a demo league and it said they were filled. I think he said in the message boards that it was going to be a month or so til it was ready.

I just went to the website because I was curious if it had been revived. Then I came here to find this discussion in May about actually reviving it. Commish, any update? Is it up and working? I'm assuming not since the demo message board was an advertisement for financing.

That game really was a blast. I spent countless hours sifting through data trying to figure out the code. Then that Koontz guy posted and a riot broke out. Ah, good times, good times.

GSB is dead. GRT and becoming a paysite killed it.

The best part was all the league smack talking. I can still do a search for P2 in this forum, open any of the threads, and be crying tears at all the crazy talk. If you weren't in P2, this won't make any sense, but "Brock Logic" and "Brock Math" still crack me up when I think about it. Timing ripping Brock and everyone else apart, including me at times. PP or Worm making absurd comments out of the blue. Whitey getting mad at Brock believing he actually was serious about being great. Wammie, well just being Wammie. And J, never seeming to get ruffled no matter how crazy it got. Hard to believe that stuff was 5-6-7 years ago.

Regardelss, there are people who run online simulations for a living who are still interested in buying it.

btw, becomming a pay site doesn't kill online sim. Not providing something people are willing to pay for is what kills them.

TB man i still cant believe it was that long either. I was in high school when that was running. I was PP at the time. I really hope it gets back up and running

TB, I was thinking when you wrote about all the shit talking in league p2 and i agreed. Then I went back and read some of the posts. Man that stuff is classic. Is everyone from P2 still around rotoguru?

J, me, and you. Timing posts once in a blue moon and probably lurks a bit. The Boston/Iowa trio of Brock, Wammie, and Worm fell off the ends of the earth.

Jeff, I agree with your post in #25. Really, I think Moser got busy with other things and everytime he logged into GSB there was too much drama. Some people on there took the game too serious. It was a fun game when it was simple. 4 simmed games a week and 16 team leagues.

Hard to believe how long people have held on to the dream that it would game back after being down for so long. Here is a link to the message boards.

Yeah, I saw that message board, I'm the guest asking if he's willing to sell. Playing GSB is what inspired me to start my first simulation. I now own four text based simulations and make a living doing it. I've also been working on a college baseball sim just for fun.

I have no doubt that the right person can turn GSB into something great. Running an online simulation just isn't for everybody. You can make a lot of mistakes (like offering lifetime subscriptions) that will ruin a site pretty quick. The customer service requirement is also something people with 'real jobs' typically can't handle. I've got four years (two years full time) of experience doing it.

It can come back and it can be better than it ever was.

I checked out your show dog site a little bit. I have no doubt that you could easily bring that game back to what it once was and then make it even better.

Yeah, lifetime subscriptions was a pretty stupid idea and probably helped speed the demise of the game.

Whoa, I haven't been over here in a few years. Since GSB died I have moved from the east coast to the west coast and back and had two kids. Today I remembered GSB for some reason. Here I was getting all excited that someone was starting it up again. Then I scrolled down. Oh well! Started playing csfbl lately - better than GSB in some ways, but not half as much fun. I want my lifetime subscription back!!

I've done everything but hire a PI to find this guy and I'm still coming up blank. Why would something let that site just sit there instead of selling it?

Fellas, there's a much better online sim baseball game than GSB.
