As far as the XP gained from training I agree that the little extra you get dosent help by waiting.

However, I believe you get a lot more XP for game experience at the lower levels.
A made several Level 1 players for the B team and they are already L3 and will likely be level 4 after today's game.
That will be 3 levels in 4 games.
To compare how many levels have the players gained that boosted?

JH,

If we had better backups our ST would be so much better. We could put starters on ST where we are deep and backups would get even more PT. Right now our deepest area is CB and we have three of the four playing ST plays. We ran the ball down their throats last game and our offense was depleted. Just an example of how critical our "backups" are, Little M, a Center, is our highest rated (according to CPU) and highest paid player on our team. He is an important part of our team. The management has considered going out and getting some more players to help our depth, but we really want to keep this a gurupie thing.

I boosted to level 4 at the end of season one and and am now at level 5. about 300 points from level 6.

But again, I am not a starter so I dont know how that playing time is being affected by boosting or not

When you do hit level 8, whether boosting or natural, PM/IM/Email me with not only that you hit lvl 8 and how much cash you have on hand, but what your character name is. Keeping names straight has been confusing. But at level 8, I will give you a new contract and enough cash to get your lvl 8 eq. Your new contract will give you a lot more than enough to train every day.

It would probably behoove us to start doing longer-term contracts at some point.

Wiggs:
The only problem I see is that we dont know how close your player was to the next level before the season began.
It is possible that your player gained 1001 exp and still gained 2 levels.
To get an accurate comparison we would need to know exp points gained.
Most of my player have gained 2200-2300 after 3 games.
That is about 750 points per game including the training.

my guys are boosting almost a level a game, including training. coming just short.

the higher i go, the less automatic that is becoming.

that being said, i am getting close to boosted when i planned on, which was as i approached, or hit, level 8. my goal was to have my level in double digits for no less than half the season...

Ronnie's brother Derek Boozer is getting ready to start his football career also. He is wondering what position might be a good fit for whatever team

Level 8 is the most important level for us.

First, you get to upgrade your eq for an extra point. Then you get to upgrade your custom eq for the ability tree. The abilities start to make an impact at level 8. So the difference between a level 7 and a level 8 is astronomical. The difference from wearing custom eq or not is also a huge difference. That costs Flex Points--which comes from referrals or you have to purchase. But you only have to spend a finite amount of cash, so I did it. Didn't plan to, but want the team to be the best it can be.

I only had one tackle last game. Only was in for 42 plays, counting ST play where I, s the backup return man, didn't even touch the ball. But my guy is getting pretty darn good. His coverage is so good that QBs won't throw at me much. Same for Doug's Speedy. We are doing a great job with little stats. Our xp was way down because the O had the ball so long. But I honestly don't care. We won. This is so much better than playing for a random team--even if I was doing better stat-wise as an individual.

This boost thing has me confused. Can I get a "cliffsnotes" summary? You only get 3 per season... is there a best time to use them? should I be saving them for some reason? Wouldn't I just want to use them all at once to get better right now?

Saying that this discussion about exp points isnt getting us anywhere is a bit presumptious.
I think it is vital to everyone playing this game and both teams to know the affects of boosting early vs boosting later.
If your mind is already made up and you choose to ignore the facts then that is up to you.
Frankly changing anyone's mind that is already made up is pointless.
For the rest of us I see nothing wrong with having as many facts as possible to base our decisions on.

I fully understand the points that Ref and others have made about the team needing to win to guarantee the long term success of the team.
However, if boosting early does slow the development progress of the player I think each player should know exactly what that difference might be.

In gerneral the more we discuss things the better off we will be.
Ref could have blown me off when I offered to share financial information.
But he didnt and as a result both teams are far better of finacially than we would be without sharing information.
Both teams are basically paying for salaries with concession sales.
I know if I was unable to discuss prices with Ref our team would not have been able to acomplish that until at least the 2nd half of the season.

A question

Custom equipment you take into the the following seasons correct? Once you buy you never lose it and it never costs anything else?

Yes, once you buy it you don't lose it unless your player retires.

You can boost your custom equipment at level 8, by spending 300FP for a tree of Special Abilities. I believe that there are also boosts at level 16, 24, etc that will have additional costs if you choose to pay.

Something interesting I came across:

Also note with the skill you train, the increase you get is inversely proportional to how high the skill number already is. This basically means that the more points are already in a particular skill, the less you are able to increase it through daily training. Here is a chart to help you see the amount you can boost a skill based on how many points are already in it:

Skill Points: Intense | Normal | Relaxed

7: 0.65 | 0.59 | 0.50
8: 0.62 | 0.57 | 0.48
9: 0.60 | 0.54 | 0.46
10: 0.58 | 0.52 | 0.44
11: 0.55 | 0.50 | 0.43
12: 0.53 | 0.48 | 0.41
13: 0.51 | 0.46 | 0.39
14: 0.49 | 0.45 | 0.38
15: 0.47 | 0.43 | 0.36
16: 0.45 | 0.41 | 0.35
17: 0.44 | 0.40 | 0.34
18: 0.42 | 0.38 | 0.32

27: 0.29 | 0.27 | 0.23

29: 0.27 | 0.24 | 0.21
30: 0.26 | 0.24 | 0.20
31: 0.25 | 0.23 | 0.19

Therefore, the more points that are in a skill, the less daily training will increase it. As an example, if any attribute is at 7, training it on Intense will increase in 0.65 points per day. Once that skill has 16 points in it, training it on Intense will only increase it 0.45 points per day. Once it is at 30, training it on Intense will only increase it 0.26 points per day, and so on.

Note:

-This chart works for every attribute regardless of position.

-If your attribute is at 7.2 or 7.4 or some number between 7 and 8, the value will be between the value listed for 7 and 8, but since the system rounds numbers to only 2 places past the decimal point, these results are not that useful to publish.

-You must subtract equiptment bonuses to use the chart above. So for example if your Speed is 25 and your equiptment is giving you +2 speed, you would need to look under 23 (25 - the effect of your equiptment) to see how much you would be able to increase that skill by training it.

The strategy comes in trying to get your “money’s worth”, so to speak. As a general rule, you always want to train skills that are the lowest value and boost skills with higher values using points from leveling up.

As an example, let’s say the Carrying on my HB is pretty low, right at 12 (not a sexy attribute, but you need some to keep you from fumbling). I notice that for an attribute with 12 points I can increase it 0.48 points per day through training. So it would take an average of only 2.08 days to improve my carrying 1 point (1 point divided by 0.48 point increase per day). Let’s say my Speed, on the other hand, is at 37. I notice that for an attribute with 37 points I can increase it only 0.18 points per day through training. So it would take an average of 5.56 days to improve my Speed 1 point (1 point divided by 0.18 point increase per day). When I level up I get to add points to a skill regardless of how many points are already in it. Therefore it makes more sense to use my Level Up points on Speed and my training points on Carrying. That way I get “more for my money.”

Also it makes more sense for the same reason to use my equiptment to boost skills that already have a lot of points in them rather than using daily training to improve that skill.

One final strategy thing, it may be best to apply all equiptment to one attribute. Say you have a DT and you want to train his Tackling. If use your skill points to bump his tackling way up, training it will not improve it that much. If on the other hand, you keep the base skill level low, at 10-15, then bump it up to a decent level using equiptment, you will be able to have it both ways. The equiptment will make your guy's tackling excellent while the low skill level behind the equiptment will allow you to gain almost half a point per day in Tackling by training on intense.

Re: 350 and 352...

Yes, 300 points gets you 1 point in every attribute in the tree. It's equivalent to 1-2 levels worth of skill points (or more as your character progresses). It's pretty huge.

If you have 400 flex points and no custom equipment yet, you can spend it all on a skill tree boost and a +1 to one of your attributes. Whenever you get 500 more flex points (say, by spending $4.50) you can upgrade your existing custom equipment with 5 more +1s to attributes (distributed however you like).

The alternative is to get 4 +1s right now and then have the 2 +1s and special ability tree boost later.

IMHO, and mathematically speaking, for 400 flex points getting +1 attribute and a special abiltiy tree boost is superior to getting +4 attributes.

To max your custom eq, you need to use 900 flex points. 600 at any time then you can spend 300 more at lvl 8. When you retire, you get 70% of your flex points back. You never have to rebuy eq for the same guy. As Doug said, you can get +1 at a time for the skills with your custom eq. It's 300 FPs for the ability tree.
