OK so there have been a lot of changes at courtrivals since our last thread. the first change that came about was the player preference sliders. I think that cleared up some of the biggest problems with the game, specifically being able to tell my 6 ft 10 ben Wallace type player not to shoot 3s anymore.

All teams our now in divisions with our team bringing up the rear of the top division. Starting I believe Sunday afternoon will be the playoffs for the end of the first season. We have a preliminary 2 seed so we are in good shape to get to the quarterfinals if the seeding holds up.

I guess my main reason for starting a new thread is to see who will continue to be active for season 2. We have several players that are training a lot and some that seem to have quit. So if I can have confirmation from everybody as to wether or not they will be back that woudl be great. That way we can find replacement players or add second players if anyone wants to do that. We are going to be back in the middle of the pack starting next week so we will need everybody to train out of their minds for the first few weeks again if we want to stay in division A.

Here are our player ranks. They are out of almost 1900 so there are a lot of new players to this game.

7 Butters Stotch (694 points)
11 Kevin Johnson (686)
17 Foul Ref Foul (671)
18 Skinny Valentine (668)
41 Le DJ (617)
46 Eric Wiggins (610)
49 Ramzi Alexander (603)
117 3 Point Drainer (498)
228 Frickin Tall (450)
323 The Show (424)

it looks like our top 7 are still training hard. The Show is my second player and I have been training him every day since we have been allowed to have two players. SO really it is just 3 point drainer and frickin tall that are falling behind. Do you guys wanna come back next year or be replaced?

Hey all! Thanks for being here for the second season of Court Rivals! This thread will give you some insight on our plans for the transition from Season 2 to Season 3.

7/9 - Rosters will lock for all College and Pro teams. You will still be able to ADD a player if you have an empty roster spot, but no other moves will be allowed.

7/18 - The High Council of Court Rivals will convene and choose 64 playoff teams and post our choices. You will then have one day to argue your cases on seedings/who's in or out.

7/19 - Final playoff seedings will be released.

7/20 - Playoffs start. Game times are TBA, but you should expect at least one round of games per day to be primetime (7p-10p). Season 2 All-Defensive Team announced.

7/21 - Second day of playoffs. Game times are TBA, but you should expect at least one round of games per day to be primetime (7p-10p). Season 2 Court Rivals 2nd Team announced.

7/22 - Championship. Primetime. Win or go home. Season 2 Court Rivals First Team, Playoff MVP, and Regular Season MVP announced.

7/23 - Season 3 begins. Rosters unlock. Attribute Rollback. Breakdown on training and rollback is found at the end of this post.

7/24 - Games will not be held on the 23rd, but will begin again on the 24th. This gives one day for training and to get teams organized.

Attribute roll back. Players will retain a percentage of their stats based on which season they first played in. The formula is such...

Base Stat + Ending Stat * (.25 + (.05 * (Number of Seasons Played - 1))) + Awards and Bonuses from both S1 and S2

Again, the "Ending Stat" in the middle is rounded DOWN once all calculations are performed. Sorry.

EXAMPLE:

Ham Burglar - 5'11" G

Speed Base = 24
Ended S2 at 120 Speed = 120 * (.25 + (.05 * (2 Seasons Played - 1))) = 120 * .3 = 36
Season 2 Playoffs MVP = +1 Speed

Therefore, Ham Burglar would start Season 3 with 24 + 36 + 1 = 61 Speed. His training time would be normal as if he had already trained to 61 speed (around 2 hours per point or so), but he gains all those training credits to spend elsewhere.

This happens for ALL your stats except Endurance. Endurance will reset to 10 + bonuses only. (First Team is the only award that gives Endurance)

Please post any questions here and I will do my best to answer them. Again, thank you for playing Court Rivals and we look forward to seeing you in Season 3!

Ok so to sum that up I believe all our players are in their second season, so everybody gets 0.3 * stat for next year. So while ending on zero is again optimal you are not punished nearly as much for being in between especially ending on 4 or 7.

I am going to switch Skinny and KJ. I am looking for more offense in the starting lineup and more rebounding on the bench. Also I want to get my 3 players on the same lineup to try and use sliders most effectively.

Gah, didn't get the level 2 chemistry yet. Chemistries process at 5AM correct (?) If so, my last TC didn't finish until 5:45AM, so that could be the reason, I'll probably train 2 more today and 2 more tomorrow to get my rebounding to 130.

DH, can you give us suggestions on what where we should set our sliders? Also, where would you like more training for Frickin Tall?

I know that, but its to have 8Acc instead of 7Acc and 2 normal ones.

I dont have have the premium anymore(since today), so can only stack 2 at once, that makes a little bit more complicated.

Frick I would get your rebounding to 130 and then let it be or maybe if you want, do one accelerated rebounding per day to end at 140. Start working 3 point shooting as your overnight training since it is your next highest attribute. Should be able to get that to 100. Try and get speed leadership and defense to 70 and just round the other categories up to a multiple of 10. Since you are so far behind the rest of the team make sure and try and use as many points per day as possible also. So if you know ou will be by the cimputer for awhile definitely cue up some 1 hour trainings and keep reloading passing or whatever rather than another 3 pointer or rebounding.

As for the sliders. Shoot more 3s, crash the boards, and conservative defense are good choices for you. Keep the other two near the middle.

There may be some additional ways to spend training credits for Season 3 and endurance will be retooled some so it won't take 1 hour to train.

We simply want people to feel rewarded for sticking with the site and we want some defined player progression. We feel this system will help balance player progression in the long run and we feel we can provide incentives to keep training your player via the Chemistry Level system and different variations of accelerated training.

Ratings and win/loss records mean nothing.
The only thing that matters is....what team wins the championship.

Hopefully DH is getting good knowledge of the slider situstion with 3 players playing at the same time.
With the right gamaeplan we should dominate.
I have faith that DH will give us the right gameplan.

We just need to play some real teams for the next week to study what my 3 sliders will do. Hard to tell against a bunch of filler players.

Kobe was at 125 shooting this morning so I guess you have to have the max for that chemistry. He will be there by 5 am tomorrow.

we still don't know where to put our sliders.

Kevin Johnson has his shooting at 108, is at 80% shoot more and only takes 3 shots and misses all of them. what happened. he has a low shooting % for many games now. can it be that he has a Leadership problem because he has it only at 53? I am upping Defense and Leadership over the weekend, so that we don't allow that many points.

the difference in our last game was that they had a better FG%, FT% and 3P%. all other stats were equal or we had a slight advantage. the same applies to our last loss. they out-rebounded us, but we forced many more TOs.

it seems our problem is the shot-selection. how do we improve that? which skills/sliders are important for that?

I have a theory:

From the hints that Kazz has dropped I believe our success is determined by the sum total of the players on the floor.
For instance when a rebound goes up it takes the total rebounding of both teams...adds a modifier for offense/defense and determines which team gets the rebound.
From there the rebound goes to the player on the team based on the weighted average of the players on the floor.

If this is true then we need to look at padding some of our stats as a team to ensure success.
FRF for instance has a very low shooting because he is pass first PG.
However, if I can add 10-20 points to shooting it will be a benefit to the team.

We still have a week to sort things out and get the team ready for the playoffs.

I echo yr's frustration. I am tweaking sliders quite a bit this weekend and I am stacking a lot of leadership because I am getting pretty tired of our team losing to good teams.....I mean, wtf?

WTF is Camby doing taking 25 shots? I have my slider on shoot more (60-70% ish) but he's only taken more than 15-odd shots once against a mostly-CPU team. I just don't get it.

Weird.

I don't know if our defense isn't good enough or if we just have some bad luck.

Aggamaggan shot 55% from the field, but 70% from 3PT.

Their prior games were 4
Field, 3Pt
40%, 50% - against a playground A team
40%, 50% - against the Whitewash 10
40%, 50% - against Inner City Apostles
40%, 45% - Pawtucket
50%, 50% - Fighting mongooses.

Is the huge increase because of our sliders, or bad luck? I'm curious if we have a similar result in our other loses. I don't have time right now to check, but it could be informative.

Ok so here is our shooting percentages in last 6 games versus pro a teams. In our 4 losses they shot 52,54,52, and 44 percent vs our 38,38,38 and 40 percent. In our 2 wins we gave up 44 and 47 and we shot 49 and 48 percent. We have shot more than our oppenents in every one of these games. We are averaging 95 shots to their 86.
I am going to look at a few other games to see what their percentages and shots are. But I have a theory for what we should do.

Alright I did a sample of a bunch of pro a vs a games and it seemed like the trend was for winning teams to shoot 44-48 percent and losing teams to shoot 37-40 percent. in general losing teams outshot winning teams by a very slight margin, about 90-88. Of course over the <10 game sample I did these numbers might be meaningless.

I then looked at fighting mongooses because they have a good record and have played mostly pro a teams. They were averaging 46 percent on 93 shots and giving up 39 percent on 94 shots.

So I doubt that all of our opponents have a much better trained defense than we do so i think it has to do with shooting. So what I would like is for everyone to train the heck out of shooting for the next few days just to see if our percentages improve some. I dont want anybody to not use any TC so still use them wisely but i would like to see our team shooting average rise by 8-10 points per day for the next few days. So everyone on the team should train 10 shooting per day if possible. for guys who already have shooting number that makes it tough to train that stat alot I want you to train 3 point shooting instead.

Our total points in shooting right now is 819. If scoring works the same way as rebounding then the game will decide first if we are going to make the shot or not and then decide who will score the points so if we all train shooting then our percentages will go up. At least that is my hope. Lets get that number up to 1000 by gametime Monday to see if it helps.

Also another important point I think I came across. Shooting and Dunking are mutually exclusive to each other statwise. Shooting only affects jump shots and dunking only affects dunking. So what I have always done is have my slider set to attack basket if my guy is not a shooter but i think that is hurting him overall. by doing that I am pulling points from my shooting to go to my dunking. but my dunking was not high so i pulled from a higher stat to give to a lower one. So what i want everyone to do is set your slider away from attack basket and towards take jump shots unless you have trained the heck out of dunking (Camby).

Also be careful with you shoot more pass more slider. If you are not a scorer and have it set to pass more then it is pulling your shooting stats down. So unless you are one of the point guards just set that stat in the middle.

Well we whipped some butt today in a Pro A game so that is good. I am not sure how many people go to change their sliders/training regimen towards shooting but there was some very balanced scoring today. We had 7 guys score in double digits. We shot 52.5 percent on 80 shots and gave up 41 percent on 93 shots. Our shooting is up to 863 as of 11 oclock tonight. Lets keep that up and see if our high shooting continues in tomorrows game against the team directly ahead of us in the standings. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

I moved my sliders before last game.

1. I put the shoot/pass in the middle(was before more to shooting), Result. 0 assists.
2. attack the basket is also in the middle, before 100% to attack, result 4-6 shooting
3. Put it back to completely crash the boards. Results more rebounds.
4. defense slider is now in the middle too, before was 100% conservative, Result: A WIN. :)

Mostly training a combo of shooting/3pt right now.

I also changed my sliders for the last game. I went back to the default. as a result my overall performance was better than the last few games. I'll try it that way for another game or two and see if that is what I can expect of my player.

I have the feeling that the more skills you try to compensate with setting the sliders the worse your player gets. I guess there has to be some penalty for using a player for different things than you have trained for.
