0 Subject: Sim. Sports Horse Racing -- Week 1103 Action

Posted by: Madman
- [29246911] Wed, Jul 25, 17:02

This is going to be a big week for me. I'm putting a recent starter-tag sort into a marathon dirt test, and I'm very hopeful. It's been awhile since I acquired any solid stock (Skin Jumping being my last quality acquisition). I figure I need to pick up one really solid runner every month, at the least, and it's been dry for me lately. (note: there's a two-three week delay in between the classes that you acquire and whether or not you know you have anything. And I wasn't acquiring many horses 2-3 weeks ago. And those that I did have come up lame or something. Yeeouch).

I've also been butting my head up against the fact that I've broken my maidens and things seem to be getting a bit tighter at the NW1x and NW2x levels than they were just a little while ago. Perhaps it's all the quality 3 yo's invading and the lack of 4yo+ races?? Not sure.

At any rate, Skin Jumping, Light Jupiter, Private Count all should be hitting the race cards this week, and Skin Jumping should hit win #3 in a row unless he gets hurt. I'm not too worried about him for awhile -- he's on automatic pilot right now. Light Jupiter may not win, but I have confidence in his low-tag starter allowance ability. Private Count, on the other hand, is going to be in the tougher NW2x level from here on out, so this is important for her. Lots of goodness this week. I hope. We'll see when races get carded.

Wu-hoo! Fletch and I have been immortalized and are part of Sim History! I am now a jockey in Rhode Island, and Fletch is also at one of the new tracks. I better kick some arse. You know I'm going to be riding my own studs just to boost my record :)

Easy Money Bet of the Week I'm going to keep betting this guy until he loses. . . Skin Jumping is going for his 3rd non-MCOS win in a row in race 0612. He's at 14/1 against, unbelievably. Clearly, the computer is still taking into account his abysmal record at ROUTE races to determine whether or not he can sprint.

The safe play here is to go for a Show bet, and a $2 bet will return you $7, virtually guaranteed. I think the bigger win bet is also in play, but I don't want to guarantee it, since he's coming from the outside slot (#11) there.
_____________________________

90+ MAD HORSES:

Light Jupiter is 2/1 against in 7512, another Starter Allowance field. He's a lock to win if you want another bet (he's on the rail). I was going to have Skin Jumping take this race, but I think SJ can handle the CPU restricted race in Arkansas, so I split them up this way, banking on two wins. I own the restricted dirt sprints in the States lately :), winning several restricted CPU's and Starter sprints for 4yo+'s.

Private Count 10/1 in 2115. OUCH. As I intimated, I'm worried about her. I need to stretch her upward in distance; this race was chosen because it was close and because it was a dirt test over 9f. Dang it. She can place, but don't count on a win.

Babified Opossum My only starter sprinter who MIGHT be able to handle the slop -- 4703, long, long odds.

Diver J. B. 1/9 odds. He better win. Someone is going to snag him from my stables. I'm going to get 17 points from him, however, before that happens. He's been moderately functional, but since he can't go past 9f, he can't break his Allowance race without difficulty, and I need the stall space for new blood.

_____________________________________________

Brown Bro 5/1 against in 6401. Testing her ability at dirt routes, she should finish #2, as long as she can handle the distance. Some luck, and anything is possible.

Drunken Badger Put him in a 50K claimer -- and the field ended up being too tough. Aargh.

Buda U. Coming off a 60K win, he's in a 7.5K claimer, and he's at 10/1 against, reflecting the fact that he's not that good.

Agriculture Bomber 3/1. This old favorite in his last attempt to not get the boot. He's in a marathon this time. I didn't want to go THIS far, but it was the only thing available . . .16f! But small field and nice odds. Caerleon can usually handle the distance. We'll see.

Majestic Yodel Spent a fortune flying her back to the States . . will it pay off? 9/1 in a wide-open field.

Zinc Dad is also running. From the far outside and at 19/1, I've got to drop this guy to claimers.

So, that's it. I've got 3 wins almost guaranteed out of 11 races, and, with luck, could place 9 ITM. Going to be a fun week to watch races! I need to go find some claimers to replace Diver and others that I'm giving up on. I sent two to the auction for this purpose, as well.

Bee stacking (4612) is probably my best shot at a win....Odds are 2/1 so is heavily favoured by the cpu..Only a couple of other runners have come close to the 90sp that he ran in his first race...Whether he can sprint is the only question..and the fact there are a lot of first time starters in this race ..He's drawn No. 9 too which isn't the greatest...

What can(1208)21/1,Rule in the burns(0707)10/1, Crowded for water(4709)17/1, Sandy bat(2409)3/1 and Prince beau(3903)6/1 are all in claim races...Sandy bat is interesting,She is rated at 3/1 which i don't really understand after her first race..She is sharp this time so hopefully there will be a fair bit of improvement in her...Prince beau is placed in accordance with Madmans analysis and "in theory" should have a very good chance at running in the money at least...First time on turf for quite a while too...

American car,a new aquirement runs in a cpu restricted race at Hong Kong(6013)at odds of 7/1..

And lastly there is Red sal!...a 96/1 shot(4807)This guy needs to go into claimers too or even better into the auction...I cannot see any hope for him...

Am hoping for a good week this week...

I hope your riding career is long and fruitful Madman!!!...Seriosly though ,you deserve to be recognised for all the work that you have done with the SSS, your articles, and i see that you are tackling some stable reviews as well.....(i assume that is why the jocks are named after various players in the sim)...

Sheen Allen--7010. 6/1. Third choice in MSW, and clearly has a shot to finish ITM.

Dixie's Bungees--5815. 6/1. Coming off solid 77 speed win. For 10K, I doubt he gets taken, but if he does, I won't mind too much. Outside shot at ITM here.

Blonde Broad--3702. 5/1 2nd choice. First race since I claimed this horse for 7.5K. Son of Broad Brush, he ran a 90 speed at 5.5. This one is at 4.5. Its a 35K claimer, so I guess he could get taken, but I predict he wins this one with a speed over 90.

Excessive George--6407. 2/1 2nd choice. This horse sucks. This is a 10K MCl and I hope he gets taken--after delivering his first win of course.

El Guitar--4506. 18/1. Another horse heading for MCl, but gets a shot on turf first.

Heir Royalty--6602. 64/1. Odds don't matter. I got ths horse for 2K, and this is his first ever sprint. If he does well, as I think he will, I keep him. If not, its low, low level claimers for this horse.

Cab -- I'm a jockey because I'm an ASR member. Mike needed some names, so he asked zgreat for some. zgreat and I have corresponded some lately; I think he just picked a bunch of people from ASR that he knew were active. Not sure.

I'm not going to be on any favorites this week. I don't want to start out winless! LOL. Assuming I look like I can ride at all, I may start trying to run my horses in RI as much as possible, just so I can ride my own nags. . . of course if I end up with good stats, I might end up riding AGAINST myself. . . conundrums!

Plus, Jerry Rice, Steve Young and Joe Montana are riders for that track, so I've got some very athletic competition. But I'm lighter than all of them :)

Just a quick note to alert the trackers that toral6, dormant since my computer went down, goes into action this week. Stupidly, I forgot to adjust the presets for my horses, so Senor Lightning is running from the rear in a 6.5 f turf sprint! Cancel any bets you might have made. More importantly, toral6 will try to get its share of the good computer 2-year olds running in cheap claimers.

Not much interesting in the rest of my action. Napkin Kicking will see if he's up to facing quality competition in Kentucky 0304. Tie Dixie I see is facing a goatlocker runner.

I amon vacation now,but at home, my hideous and hateful computer got so fouled up that after saving all I could and formatting C, I can't even reinstall Windows! Will have to go to a consultant even to do that! Hopefully it's understandable that playing the game in short snatches of borrowed time has left me in a sour mood for a month. Well, on the good side, once I can reinstall (or get a new machine) I should have enough space left over from unneded programs to install Simsearcher 4.0, which I really look forward to using. I do feel somewhat sorry for total luddites who will be disadvantaged by never being able to use tools like that, but things like that happen as a simevolves and improves. I hope that Mike is able to use the tools not just to analyze, but to *improve* the sims by improving his ability-creating programmes. (IIRC,inthe past the practice has been for Mike to adjust his sire assessments once a year; I believe it had been done this year just before I began the game. It was not clear from the message board info the extent to which these judgements were *retroactive*, i.e.,affected existing 3- 4- 5- 6-year olds (9-year olds)?)

I look forward to getting back intothe game more when the computer deities (demons?) allow.

Good racing luck to all.

Toral -- good deal. I'd add toral6 to your list (which I track in version 4.0, hehehe).

I hope you guys took the Safe bet on Skin Jumping -- he got beaten in a photo-finish, dang it. The #11 starting gate just killed him. Plus, I think he's in a bit of a down cycle at the moment. His pedestrian speed figure disturbs me a bit . . . (93.9).

Overall, I placed 9 of 12 ITM, but only 2 winners. Light Jupiter, Private Count and Skin Jumping -- all on 2 win streaks -- all finished second! Go figure. It appears I have my female surface-versatile marathon runner in Brown Bro who had my favorite win of the week. Zinc Dad told me that he wants to try the claim ranks; same with Majestic Yodel who I spent cash to come to the states. Geez. Stinky the Urban became my fastest 3yo filly, with an 80 speed sprint. Hmmm. Maybe she can become something? I doubt it.

I lost Diver J. B. -- as expected. He was the 3rd fastest 5K or under claim horse in the game this week. Oops. But it was a track restricted claim race -- good for 17 points. I had to take it. Diver simply had no where else he could be competitive. Good luck to the new owner.

Not a single new horse appears on the list!

Some notable changes:

1) Utterly the Kelly. Check out that race -- it says it all.
2) Pricey Courage with another strong outing.
3) Napking Kicking is looking very strong.
4) A lot of losses for Gurupie Ace horses this week. This is reflected in the overall horse records. . .

For the record, there will be no listed MAD ratings following next Saturday's races, FYI. I might get to it sometime in the following week, but maybe not, too.

Similarly for Gurupie Stable stats next weekend.

2 Winners and a 3rd from 8 starters(well 7 and a 1/4 really!) for me this week...I think i have the right spot for Prince beau now...Mid to high claimers,turf/dirt routes seem to be the place for him(might even ship him to Europe where there are more turf opputunities)...I managed to hang onto him too, which is good...American car won his race as well, a cpu restricted race in Hong kong...Bee stacking finished third..I am not terribly dissappointed with his race...Had to try a sprint sooner or later and he still got itm...Back to routes for him now...A couple of fiths in claiming races gathered a few bp's as well...Nothing special in the speed ratings today though..
I lost Sandy bat but picked up Jinx darnning from the cpu...I will take that swap(even though Jinx darnning sucked today)...

A shame about Skin jumping, Madman...I thought he was gonna get there...I went for the big payout unfortunaely!!.. lol...Would've been worth it, if he had got up...I see your riding career got off to a pretty good start too!!..

Those ratings probably only need to be updated every few weeks or whenever you feel like it really...It's great to see the progress of the "upper echoleon" of gurupie horses, so the rankings are appreciated..Maybe the list should be shortened by raising the standard?..say 95-98 mad rating or something?..

I think I forgot to update Bee Stacking's W-L record . . . Ooops.

Yeah, I could go for shortening the list! A 90 MAD rating roughly corresponds to a prediction that the horse should easily win his maiden . . . and be NW2L competitive (although maybe not win).

Maybe I should up the MAD ratings to a prediction of NW3x level? Or maybe NW2x? I think that would be the way to go. I'd have to look at what those levels are. . . Probably around 100 for NW3x and your 95 for NW2x. . .

I forgot -- the Earnings rankings, however, will become almost meaningless if we shorten the list. Already, there are several horses that should be in there . . . Maybe I should just kill that column?
