2:30 AM. To tape or to watch-- that is the question!!!! Luckily in the NY/NJ area no one really cares. Therefore if one tapes, most likely one will not here the results on drive time sports talk on the way home from or to work. Mike and the Mad Dog do not fail me now and take and interest in soccer!!!! |

Final 1-1. Not bad getting 1 point against S. Korea on their home turf.

Wrong. If Portugal and Korea get a draw and USA loses badly to Poland, we'll have Korea with 5, Portugal and USA with 4. The one with the best goal difference gains the second spot.

Yeah, and Portugal is trouncing Poland (4-0) right now, so, the next game we have against Poland is big. They (Poland) must be demoralized though, and I would be very surprised if U.S. did not beat Poland (handily) in our next game (even though Poland was supposed to be pretty good).

portugal will crash korea....at least if we play as they know and as they did today. Plus 4 the u.s.a. a draw will be enough to advance and play, i hope, italy.

Sorry, I didn't even know there was a Soccer page here, but I'll repost what I put in the Baseball forum under the 6/9 what to expect from pitchers thread of KKB:
US needs one more point to advance. We only scored one goal in the entire tournamnet 4 years ago! We need to tie Poland to advance. *Start of Rant* I heard the Koreans all did their speed skating immitations on the sidelines after they scored their goal on us. We're not the enemy for goodness sakes! We are the ones that have all of our military protecting their asses in the DMZ!!! We didn't DQ your speedskater. You wanna be pissed at us--go get some M16s, we'd love to bring our boys home or redeploy them elsewhere--we could sure use them! *END of Rant*
Also azd, 92 min would be injury time. THey don't stop the official clock for injury, the ref keeps it on his watch. I don't understand it--never had. Why doesn't he just stop the main clock like all other sports do?!?! But that's why they can be in 92nd min.

Ref the reason for not using a stopwatch is quite simple, soccer started at such an early age that there never really was a set timelimit to begin with. The extra seconds that you might get in a soccer game hardly ever matter.
It's not as if you can call a timeout and pull the goalie, or setup a 3pt play with little timeleft. Also the players all have a concept of how much time is about left, and very rarely at any soccer game when your young do they post the time remaining. You have to get a feel for it.

Twarpy, good point.
I'm just saying, would be interesting as a fan or ven a player to know exactly how much time we have left rather than to know that at anytime the game can be over. Also, takes the corruption acqusations out of the ref's hands. I've seen/heard where announcers are saying this is a lot more injury time than actually occurred and also that there was more injury time than that.

They do tell you at the 45th minute (1st half) and 90th minute (2nd half) how many minutes will be added on. Usually theyre within 15-30 seconds of that:)

I think that the ambiguity surrounding the actual end of the game lends to the charm of soccer. Just MHO.

Suppose there were no injuries during a match but each team substituted the maximum number of players allowed. Team A substitutes 2 players and Team B substitutes 1 player during the 1st half. Team A substitutes 1 player and Team B 2 players during the 2nd half. Would there be time added at the end of the 45 elapsed minutes of each half? At the disgression of the referee, I say yes, there would be some increment of time added to each half. Time is added at the disgression of the referee for anything that interrupts the flow of play during a match.

IF Bruce Arena start Agoos again!!!!!!!!
Agoos is, by far, the worst player on the field.

smallwhirled- agoos is still a smart and skilled defenseman. however age has slowed him to the point where he is a liability at center back. hopefully arena will not be blinded by loyalty (i believe that arena coached agoos at virginia and on dc united in the mls)and will start someone else on defense. i also hope that arena goes with his fastest offense and starts beasley, mathis, and possibly wolff, as their speed can disrupt the play of the more skilled european and south american teams.
