So if Poland some how beats the US like Ecuador beat Croatia, we can expect collusion again in the South Korea/Portugal match. You go soccer!

The last 10 minutes of the Italy/Mexico game was the biggest crock I have ever seen. Both teams new they had both advanced with a tie, with Croatia's loss.

Im betting with Poland winning 2-0 against the US, the second half of the Portugal game is quite the bore. Both teams advance with a tie.

I guess I will find out after I get ready for work.

It really pisses me off, b/c Poland is really not that good at all.

The US has no Figo, Zidane type players...so a 2 goal lead may be too much to overcome with Poland bunkering in the D. Gonna be tough for a counter-attacking US team to score in this situation. Go Korea!

3rd goal by Poland means that it now all depends on South Korea to get the USA to round 2.

Well Portugal has had their 2nd player sent off in the match and are playing 9 vs 11 Korean's. And moments after the 2nd player was sent off, Korea scored. Looks good for the US as Korea should win. Very very lucky! What's even luckier, is you guys get a draw vs Mexico, in which you have more experience against. Next round should be good.

Poland really is that good, funny that they start playing like they can now that they've already lost the possibility to go to the 2nd round... I guess they just couldn't handle the pressure and excitement, and can now play freely. A missed penalty-kick away from 4-0, can you say massacre?

What a finish to the Portugal Korea game!!! Portugal had 2 great opporutities to tie it, one hitting the post, and the other with the Korean keeper coming up huge. But it is all over now, Portugal is out, Korea and the U.S. are in. Now, lets go ITALIA!!

Poland is really not that good at all

Bad statement on my part. Poland was dominant in the air. Every time I saw the little crosses coming, I knew the US had no chance to get a goal. The only way they could've scored is if they had space. They didn't have that today, and got in with a lucky result. Good, we didn't deserve it, but we'll take it.

Nuno Gomez choked, wow! Anyways, after seeing a few S Korea games, I'm really impressed with their speed. Should be a good matchup, and looks like most of us need Italy for our SW teams in the NET divisions.

just for your information Italy would have qualified even with a defeat. The croatia-ecuador game was finished, and both teams were already qualified when the "melina" started (it's the name for the thing happened....), and they did it because, with things already settled they didn't want somebody to get injured or disqualified....
it has been 4 minutes, not 10, and started from the moment the refree indicated the injury time.
It's almost the same of when teams don't play the garbage time in the american football, isn't it??

There is no such thing as garbage time in a tie game. That was poor sportsmanship on the part of both teams at the end of that game.

It's similar to a basketball game, when someone ends the game keeping the ball on his hands for 20 seconds, I can't see any difference.
4 minutes of extra time were too much, the players were tired and they tried to make the referee understand this.

mIST and IRRIDUCIBILI LAZIO -

Are you forgetting that the game was tied when those 4 minutes of extra time came about? Last time I checked, the object of any competitive sporting match is not to tie your opponent.

Basically, if they didn't both know that they were in with a tie then they would have tried to score instead of dogging it.

I guess this type of thing happens more frequently in soccer than other sports because I can't remember the last time I saw any NBA teams dribbling the ball at half-court for 4 minutes when the game was tied in OT because they were tired.

basically you're right, but the goal of the competition is to qualify to next round keeping your squad injury and disqualification free. it was perfectly inutil to risk at that point: both teams were qualified, they played a huge game and were tired, and they were just thinking to preserve their forces for next match, which will be played in the hot and humid seoul.....i can't really blame them, after 92 minutes of battle if they keep it quiet for 4 minutes.....i really can't......and hey, consider that you don't have timeouts to rest yourself in soccer, it's 45 minutes of continue playing, so at the end of a match it's reasonable that you're tired and don't want to risk just to save appearence.....

From what the announcers said at the end of the Italy match, their was still 4 minutes or so left in the Croatia/Ecuador game, but Im not sure he was right or not.

You cant explain and make what those 2 teams did seem right. Tired or not, they both decided they weren't gonna finish the game. Why? Because they were tired or didnt want to get hurt? Then dont play. Collusion- the announcer used that word, and that is what it was. The players quit playing, in a tie game. Stupid. Unacceptable.

And now, Im forced to cheer for South Korea. A team that actually kept on playing in the second half of a tie game, even though they knew they were through, with the US being down 3-1.

Both teams should be fined heavily. Not a great way to promote a sport.

In American football, when a team has a lead, they run the clock out, same with the NBA. You wouldnt see 2 NFL teams in week 17, just taking knee's all game, because they know a 0-0 tie gets them both in.

They actually play the whole game, tired or not.

no, they don't play the whole game. And be sure they would have not played with their best men.
Surely they should have been playing with the entire bench on the field, and be sure that if in soccer you should be allowed to change your entire lineup the mexico-italy game would have been played till the end. The croatian game finished exactly 20 seconds after the refree showed the 4 minutes of injury time, so it was totally stupid to risk an injury or a yellow card......for what?
i assure you that at the end of a soccer game, played for the entire time by the same persons on the field, you're absolutely exaust, and it's in that conditions that you risk injuries or bad fouls.
