Do USA and Mexico have a great rivalry at all, something like Canada and USA, or England and Ireland ????

Pretty big I think but I think there are more fans of Mexican soccer than there are for the US, especially on the west coast. They will be watching Univision and not ESPN. It's on!

I am sad because of fantasy games, I had a lot of mexican players, but I am very happy for the US team, because I think it's the only sport where they are the underdogs, and I always cheer for underdogs :)

Well soccer is by far the most popular team sport in participation terms in USA now, so watch out in 10 years when all these kids grow up and suddenly USA finally has a team of class players. I was so surprised to hear on the broadcast that there are no USA players that can even make a premier European club team as a starter.

i think that beasley should easily fit in a serie a premier team if tactically disciplined. he has technic and phisycal skills.

Wow... I'm not a huge soccer fan, but I tend to pay attention when the World Cup rolls around, even if it means staying up until 3:30 in the morning. I have to say, though, that the match was brutal last night. The US deserved 3 of the 5 yellows they got, but I think the Mexicans deserved more than the 5 that they received. Greg Lougainis (sp?) would never have won so many gold medals if Hernandez for the Mexicans had chosen a different sporting career. I lost count of the number of times the Mexican players got in a cheap shot or two on a US player on the ground.

But, it could just be my bias showing.

Woo hoo! (I woke my wife up last night cheering after the goals.)

You are right Sludge, after every foul, the Mexican would try to nudge a knee in the USA player's back, kick him, or clench a fist like he was going to punch him. Their dirty play should not be tolerated. And then, after the game, the Mexican's simply walk off - no handshaking, no jersey swapping. I think they feel like the USA does not dserve it, and instead disrespect the USA. Whenever the USA beats Mexico, the Mexican players and coaches always have an excuse, its never their own fault. This time it was the handball that wasn't called on O'Brien, but we have all come to realize that ref's make mistakes - this wasn't the only game where a call was "missed".

The Mexican defender and captain who produced the studs to the groin, elbow to the cheek and head butt all in one move is the talk of our pub.Even we English connoisseurs of the beautiful game can't remember 3 reds in one assault.Several premiership clubs are seeking his agent;-)
