0 Subject: Fantasy League

I was thinking about starting a fantasy league. Let's see if there are enough people interested. It would be something like this:

Teams: 10
Elegible players: From the Italian, Spanish and English leagues
Scoring system: Pretty simple, 1 point for each goal scored and each assist, -1 point for each goal conceded by the keeper. However, there wouldn't be negative scores. I mean, if a team ends the game with -1 total points and their opponents end with 0 or -2 total points, the match ends 0-0. Maybe we could have the visiting team start with -1 points.

We would use those weekends when all three leagues have matches; there are 15 of those weekends until the end of this season. This would allow us to have a 9 game mini-league (next season we could have a full 18 game season) and a cup.
We could allow several formations like 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 5-3-2 and 5-4-1.
It would be a dynasty league. This means you could keep all your players for next season.
If there are enough people interested I could create a website and a forum for the league.

What do you think?

We could auction the players and sign them to contracts.

I'd be interested in this, some others have also talked about running a game for the world cup aswell, if there is enough interest it would be worth getting some ideas put into place to give it a go.

I love the idea, but it would be a lot of work. Out of curiousity, are you familiar with Yahoo's scoring? There's A LOT more to it, obviously, but some of it possibly could be incorporated. From my English Premier League:
Attacking
Goal (G) 7 points (+3 for Shot on Target -10 overall)
Assist (A) 4 points
Match-Winning Goal (MWG) 2 extra points
Set-Piece Goal (SPG) 3 extra point
Shot on Target (SOT) 3 points
Successful Cross (SC) 1 point
Winning a Foul (FW) 0.5 points
Winning a Corner (CW) 1 point
Penalty Kick Missed or Saved (PKM) -5 points

Defending/Discipline
Blocked Shot (BS) 2 points
Clean Sheet(CS) 4 points
Pass Intercepted (PI) 0.5 points
Winning a Tackle (TW) 0.5 points
Last-Man Saving Tackle (ST) 2 points
Foul Committed (FC) -0.5 points
Penalty Committed (PC) -3 points
Own Goal (OG) -3 points
Yellow Card (YC) -3 points
Red Card (RC) -6 points

Goalkeepers
Win (W) 4 points
Loss (L) -2 points
Tie (T) 1 point
Save (SV) 2 points
Penalty Kick Save (PKS) 6 points
Clean Sheet (CS) 5 points
Goal Allowed (GA) -3 points
Miscellaneous (MISC) Total of attacking, defending
and discipline points

I was thinking about a much simpler scoring system that would produce realistic results for matches (2-0, 3-1).
It wouldn't be so much work because of the simple scoring system and because during the season the only thing we'd have to do is post our lineups. There would be no transactions during the season.

These would be the rules

Cost: Free
Teams: 6 (for the time being)
Elegible players: Spanish, English and Italian league players
Competitions: A league and a cup (the cup starting in 2007)
Schedule: Weekends when there are games in the three leagues
Formations: 3-4-3, 3-5-2, 3-6-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2, 4-5-1, 5-3-2, 5-4-1
Rosters: 25 players

Individual scoring
Goal scored: + 1
Assist: + 1
Goal conceded by goalkeeper: - 1
Goalkeeper who doesn't play at least 30 minutes: -3

Team scoring
0 or negative total points: 0 goals
1 total point: 1 goal
2 total points: 2 goals
... and so on
Visiting teams start -1

Player acquisition
All teams are assigned 300 million dollars.
Players are auctioned before the start of the season.
Teams can take up to 25 players.
At mid season, there's a transfer window.
During this window, teams can bid for new players, buy/sell/loan/drop players (maximum loan: 1 year)
If a team already has 25 players and buys another player, it has five days to sell or loan one guy in order to stay below the 25-player limit. After those five days, they must drop a player.
After the end of the season, teams keep all their players and are assigned an amount of money (for example: 50 million to the champs, 45 million to the runner-up, and so on)
During the offseason, teams can buy/sell/loan/drop players.
Shortly before the following season, there will be another auction for players without teams.
And everything starts again.

Stat service
Yahoo has matchcasts for the three leagues and they also record assists.
Yahoo also has team rosters we could use for position elegibility (keeper, defender, midfielder, forward).

Tentative Auction Schedule
01-15 players: 1/16
16-30 players: 1/21
31-45 players: 1/25
46-60 players: 1/28
61-75 players: 2/01
76-90 players: 2/04
91-105 players: 2/08
106-120 players: 2/11
121-135 players: 2/15
136-150 playres: 2/18

2006 Schedule (with 6 teams)
2/26 Inaugural League Matchday 1
3/05 Inaugural League Matchday 2
3/12 Inaugural League Matchday 3
3/19 Inaugural League Matchday 4
3/26 Inaugural League Matchday 5
4/02 Inaugural League Matchday 6
4/09 Inaugural League Matchday 7
4/16 Inaugural League Matchday 8
4/23 Inaugural League Matchday 9
4/30 Inaugural League Matchday 10

IF INTERESTED, PLEASE SEND ME AN E-MAIL TO jpunturere@fibertel.com.ar

THANKS!

Jorge: i like the idea of having the results in head to head format, but i think your proposal is a bit too simplistic, the only defensive consideration is the goalkeeper, in this format a 3 man defense would be the only sensible choice as generally speaking defender's will not get as many assists and goals, without rewarding the defenders for defensive play they would become almost worthless. With some tweaking the yahoo system would be a good one, but it would be very difficult to translate into a head to head system that you prefer (with realistic final scores). I think the transfer system would have to be considered aswell, it would be nice to keep it inline with the real transfer windows, but this would lead to alot of relative inactivity during the season (only having to change the lineup on occasion)

We could add 1 point if you have two defenders who get a clean sheet
