Bummer, the country flags aren't showing. :-(
Just felt like posting that coldwater. ;)
Are you playing a fantasy game? If so, the scoring system would affect any list I'd make. If not, still hard to rank players without considering positions.

Yeh bro, that's the FIFA World Player of the Year results, which I now realize wasn't labelled (oops).
If you think about the year Lampard had last year scoring 19 goals in leading Chelsea to a runaway EPL title, Carling Cup title, and Champions League semi-final loss, it makes some sense.

In 2005 did they announce all the players who received votes (and their order) or just the first three? The question wasn't directed at fantasy football ..although I did play the last ESPN World Cup game. I am hoping to go to a few games in Germany so I am just trying to get aquainted with some players. I know the Manchester United and Chelsea teams pretty well.

This is the shortlist that was sent to the coaches and captains of every national team for 2005. They were asked to choose their top three players. The final 3 were named in November 2005, and the winner was announced at the FIFA gala in Zurich on December 19.
• Adriano (Inter, Brazil) • Michael Ballack (Bayern Munich, Germany) • David Beckham (Real Madrid, England) • Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus, Italy) • Cafu (AC Milan, Brazil) • Cristiano Ronaldo (Man Utd, Portugal) • Deco (Barcelona, Portugal) • Didier Drogba (Chelsea, Ivory Coast) • Michael Essien (Chelsea, Ghana) • Samuel Eto'o (Barcelona, Cameroon) • Steven Gerrard (Liverpool, England) • Thierry Henry (Arsenal, France) • Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Juventus, Sweden) • Kaka (AC Milan, Brazil) • Frank Lampard (Chelsea, England) • Paolo Maldini (AC Milan, Italy) • Pavel Nedved (Juventus, Czech Republic) • Alessandro Nesta (AC Milan, Italy) • Jay-Jay Okocha (Bolton, Nigeria) • Raul (Real Madrid, Spain) • Juan Roman Riquelme (Villarreal, Argentina) • Arjen Robben (Chelsea, Holland) • Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid, Brazil) • Robinho (Real Madrid, Brazil) • Ronaldinho (Barcelona, Brazil) • Ronaldo (Real Madrid, Brazil) • Wayne Rooney (Man Utd, England) • Andriy Shevchenko (AC Milan, Ukraine) • Ruud van Nistelrooy (Man Utd, Holland) • Zidane Zinedine (Real Madrid, France)

Thanks. 7 from Brazil! at least Lampard and co won't have to face them until the final. I am surprised that Owen didn't make the list...was he that bad at Real Madrid.

Obviously, Ballack stands out as the only German. Bayern Munich is typically the best-known German club. Oliver Kahn (age 36) is their keeper and one of the best of all time. If you could see him it would be akin to having my son see Cal Ripken Jr. before he retired. Bayern has a very impressive roster, that besides Ballack and Kahn also includes 21 year old Bastian Schweinsteiger who we will also see soon on the World Cup grand stage. Scholl and Lizarazu are great players that are nearing the end at ages 35 and 36. Deisler is a solid star and you may also recognize players like Sagnol and Hargreaves. The 2 Brazilians stand out as well.

Owen just didn't play enough at Real Madrid to warrant serious nomination. He played well when called upon, but was typically on as a reserve.
