I need to pick to player I think will win the Golden Shoe. Is don't know where I will pick yet, but the choice will b somewhere between 1-8. I will need eight candidates.

Anyone help me out with some suggestions?

Sorry if this got lost in translation, using a webpage translation to post.

I found something similar on SI.com... with the 5th pick I went with Michael Owen.

Assuming he stays healthy, a solid pick.

Our "draft" continues... Anyone want to rank the pools in order you think they are likely to generate a winner? lol... I got the 6 pick here. 8 people, each person chooses a pool and gets all 4 teams. Brazil's pool already went #1, we continue the draft Monday morning.

Futbol (football?!) drafting in June Mike! :)

Anybody know of any good sites that predict the order of finish for each of the groups?

I've seen some on TV (FSC). Haven't checked on the web for actual predictions.

Yeah...I haven't really seen any site that has appealed to me. Strange, I thought there would be tons of them out there.

Barilko most groups conistent of one team which is lucky to be in the world cup, 2 average teams and a powerhouse. Theres very few predictions which deviate from the top 8 teams winning the division and then its upto the 2nd place team from qualifying.

The trick in any worldcup pool is getting the seedings right, and predicting a couple #1 seeds to end up #2 seeds and therefore having to face a #1 seed from another division in the next round. If you want any help I can try giving you some thoughts.

Thanks Twarpy...

Never been in a world cup pool before, and I've been hearing names like Ivory Coast and Ukraine as big sleepers, Netherlands and Argentina as frequent disappointments, and then how all the South American teams suck when they play in Europe.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Ivory Coast could be a sleeper if they werent in the group of death, Argentina is extremely strong, and the Dutch missed the last World Cup and I just dont see Ivory Coast coming out alive, in fact I see Serbia and Montenegro possibly beating them too.

Ukraine is interesting they have a legitment shot at finishing 2nd behind Spain in their divison. They will play the winner of the France division and could possibly take them out.

In terms of sleepers I'm liking teams that perfer colder weather as Germany gets quite cool especially for those night games, so I do prefer the Ukraine selection as a sleeper.

Couple other upsets I like in the first round that the general public isn't supporting...

Everyone likes Sweden to finish 2nd in Group B, I think Paraguay could come out with it here, Sweden has an older team and I think have fallen off from their glory days.

As I said before Serbia and Montenegro play a mean defense and I think the winner of the SM match and Ivory Coast could tie one of Argentina and the Dutch and make that a real mean division.

A lot of people are on the Czech bandwagon, I've seen enough saying they will beat the USA. I honestly like the US team and I just hope all anti american stuff and increased security they have wont mess them up.

Everyone is on the South Korean bandwagon based on the last world cup, look for Switzerland to possibly finish 2nd in that division as I just don't think that SK is that strong.

barilko - FWIW, I have pretty similar thoughts as Twarpy:

Group A - Germany should win it, but Ballack is likely out for the first game, and I wouldn't be surprised if Costa Rica can pull off a tie or upset. The schedule sets up well for Costa Rica, because if they can pull off a result against Germany, they have a good shot of advancing as the #2.

Group B - England should win, with the #2 being Sweden or Paraguay. England's front six (with Rooney) is arguably the best in the world, but they seem to have problems with Sweden. I would not be surprised if Paraguay can get a result against Sweden and Sweden get a result against England to make this group interesting.

Group C - The Group of Death. Serbia has a top notch defense, but Argentina and Netherlands, and to an extent Ivory Coast have top notch offenses. I can't wait to see all the games in this group. I don't see the Serb's scoring enough to advance; a win and two ties at best. In my bracket, I have Argentina as the #1 and Ivory Coast as #2. One Africa team always seems to advance out of the first round, so, I took Ivory Coast. I watched a couple of the Netherlands friendly tune ups, and they are already banged up with injuries.

Group D - I think Mexico will finish first and Portugal will finish 2nd. As much as I hate to say it, Mexico is really good; I actually have them making them semi's.

Group E - I like the US's chances to get out. The Czech's our older and slower than the US, which plays into the US's strengths. I think Italy will win the group, but Italy historically comes out of the gates slow (and usually have an easier group to advance out of). I have a couple of buddies form Italy that are very worried that they won't make it out of the 1st round.

Group F - Brazil. Any of the other three teams can make it out as the #2. Austrailia is the sexy pick.

Group G - France. The 2nd seed is between Korea and the Swiss. I believe the Koreans will make it out because they have the experience of making the semi's in 2002. A couple of their players now play in Europe as well, while 0 played there in 2002. Some people really like the Swiss, I don't know much about them to make an educated comment.

Group H - Ukraine is good, and they showed it in qualifying. They could beat Spain and make it out as the #1, but I took the safe choice and went with Spain. I would be surprised if Tunisia or Saudi Arabia put up much of a fight.

I really want to go with Ivory Coast, but I think Argentina is too strong, and being of Dutch heritage, I just can't! I wish they were in a different group, that is for sure.

I am feeling good about a lot of the picks (at least in my head I am), but there are a couple of groups that I am struggling with, mainly Group C and Group A and then the Round of 16 matches.

In response to Post 12, we also have similar picks. Though I'm taking more shockers than anything.

Group A - Germany and Poland; no way is any of those South/Latin American countries advancing in that group. They're horrible.

Group B - England and Sweden, in any order. England still has plenty of star power and Ibrahimovic should take care of everyone for Sweden.

Group C - Argentina and (as much of a tough time I had) going to go with Serbia and Montenegro. I don't have the Ivory Coast anywhere and think they are VERY overrated. The Netherlands would be the safer bet for 2nd place, but an older lineup being put out, it wouldn't surprise me to see S&M move on.

Group D - Portugal first and Mexico second. No way is Mexico going to finish first, and the only reason they are advancing is because of that group (although Iran might stun everyone). A little overrated in my opinion, and Portugal is solid. True that their midfielders (Maniche and Figo are past their prime) they still have enough star power and youth to reach the Semis.

Group E - Czech Republic, also favorites of Euro 2004, should finish first easily. Though older, guys like Cucu and Pavel Nedved can make all the difference in the world. Surprisingly, I see the USA finishing second, though Ghana is also a good team. This is one of the toughest groups and I'll probaby tune into every match. Italy, on the other hand, is always overrated and can never do a thing.

Group F - Brazil obviously in first (although they are not my picks to win it) and I'll go with Japan. Japan has a very solid and young team that's been playing together for a very long time. I see them out running the Vidukas and Klanics, although I'd pencil in Croatia as the favorites to advance also atleast.

Group G - France and Korea. Switzerland may have a chance to upset, but highly unlikely.

Group H - I like Spain and Ukraine in this group. Tunisia has more of a chance than Saudi Arabia, but that doesn't say much.

-------------------------------------------------

In the next round, I like Sweden to take Germany (yes the host). Germany's a bit overrated for me, and regardless of the fact they're hosts, they're not great.

Then I see Argentina taking Mexico to the house, though in a close game.

The Czechs will handle Japan.

Then France will trounce the Ukraine, who'll come in 2nd of their group.

England beats Poland.

Portugal over Serbia Montenegro (or who ever makes it).

Then Brazil to beat USA.

Finally, Spain should beat Korea, though that has upset written all over it.

-------------------------------------------------

In the quarters, I see:

Argentina over Sweden.

France over the Czechs.

Portugal over England.

Brazil over Spain.

-------------------------------------------------

Semis

Portugal over Argentina
France over Brazil.

-------------------------------------------------

Finals

France 3 - 0 Portugal

This is what I like. It should be fun.

I really don't claim to know a damn thing about this, but I'm running a pool with some friends and guys at work, here's what I'm picking, tell me if I'm crazy:

Brazil has the history, and some very good players, but its almost like NCAA Hoops. Anything can happen.

Like Stormo, I think Iran is a team to look out for.
