Subject: Message Board Team

Anyone interested in joining heads for a multi-manager Soccer Forum team? I noticed that there's still an opening in the RotoGuru.com division so I thought that this might be a way to fill the last spot. Whoever is interested would throw in opinions and vote on roster changes, etc., and the consensus moves would be made. If I remember correctly there was something like this on the hockey forum, called "SLAP THIS" or something like that. The team would be two weeks behind everyone else but it might be interesting to see what our collective Roto-minds could do.
Any one interested?

Sounds good to me. I don't know if all 5 active managers would be able to agree though!

I would like it. It could stimulate the discussion. Now it's waiting for VDrays and Eltel to join in ;-) I messed up my rotoguru team. My others are doing better.

I'll try to help. But they are just numbers to me:)
I noticed that on Sunday Edgar-about one of your teams being invalid. Thought you did it on purpose.

Even if there aren't a lot of managers it'll still be fun and stimulate some interesting discussion. Hopefully a few more managers will come aboard as time goes on.
Now, I guess the next step is, what should we call this team? I was thinking of something the reflects our common backround, something like "Gurupies Utd" or "Inter RotoGuru" (since we're all from different parts of the globe). Or maybe something descriptive but boring, like "RotoGuru Message Board". I'm sure you all have some clever ideas, so let 'em roll! When we have a team name, I can register the new team (unless someone else would like to do it).
Second, we need to draft our initial team. It's a good thing that there won't be any matches for a while so we have some time to carry this out. I'll throw in some suggestions below:
Anyone in the top 15 money-makers (I realized my list looked an aweful lot like this), esp. Bramble, Cardone, Beckham, Carrick, and Owen.
Tim Flowers for goalie

Bubba, I like the ideas for team names. I shortened one to 'Inter Guru'. 'R.G. Internationale' 'Roto Futbol' these are just a few ideas.
Anyway I have gone nuts with my trading tonight. I went: Haaland---->Bramble Westervelde-------->Flowers Cole------------>Henry Stanic--------->Stuart Please feel free to criticise if you like as I am still learning this game and welcome any advice. I wish I could hold on to transfers but I just have to use them. :)

Don't feel bad Frank P. Used all eight I had before today on various moves. Just think this is a golden opportunity to make money while no games are going on. I went over 54 mil today.

I still have six but made 4 trades yesterday. That's on the team that is ranked 21 WW. Don't really want to get rid of all my trades. Might make a few more swaps tomorrow. Still have Rebrov and wonder if I should get Smith......Good for money but probably not for points. This game is so unpredictable!

I'm holding all the trades I can and not worrying about money at this stage. This strategy is probably misconceived but I figure that 1.there are some serious value players yet to appear e.g.Burley and Kinkladze at Derby 2.match-ups will matter a lot later on when certain teams have 2 games in the week (Villa and Leeds make-up in Oct) 3.this week is a lottery since we won't know who's hurt in the weekend internationals when we set our rosters for the mid week games which follow. 21 is impressive,Edgar.Congrats. El Tel-my beginners luck still holding on-I'm at 66 wwr. And that's with Rowatt's incorrect scoring.
I have absolutely no illusions about staying there, however. I'll try but I just don't know enough.

First off, I'm happy to see the positive response thus far.
As for the team name, unless anyone has any other suggestions, I like either "Inter Guru" (catchy) or "Gurupies Utd" (a solid football name)--thanks Frank p and VIDevilRays for the input. Please vote for one of these.
For the initial draft, how about this list of money-makers (+Flowers)?
G: Flowers 3200
D: Bramble 880 Venus 3100 Pallister 3550 El-Khalej 930
M: Cardone 1830 Beckham 8660 Carrick 1490 Graham 4040
S: Smith 3770 Henry 8630
total RV: 40080 cash: 9920
This team has excellent money-making possibilities and a nice bundle of cash but we will probably have to burn a few trades before the matches.
I'd like to buy Ziege but his price is still dropping so maybe we can buy him next week, in time for the next matches. Likewise for Kinkladze (BTW isn't he supposed to be back soon?). Speaking of injuries, what's the 411 on Ronny Johnsen? He's another potential draftee. His gains have slowed but, if he's healthy, he's great buy. I'm not too worried about using trades because we should have a nice stash of them by the time we need them.
Let's have some votes and other suggestions. Hopefully if we can agree on a draft team within a couple of days we can maximize our money gains.
Let's go Gurupies!

Actually Bubba, Johnson lost 20 grand today. I am assuming he will be back next week but who knows? If the damn breaks with him as far as price might have to sell.
Don't know much about El-Khalej and Carrick but it looks great!

Hey where is everyone?
I'll take VIDevilRays message above as votes for everyone except for El-Khalej and Carrick. He had mentioned Hamann earlier so I'll give him a vote in lieu of Carrick. I also put the name choices below with phantom votes so you'll remember to vote for that also. So the early results are:
G: Flowers 2
D: Bramble 2 Venus 2 Pallister 2 El-Khalej 1
M: Cardone 2 Beckham 2 Carrick 1 Graham 2 Hamann 1
S: Smith 2 Henry 2
name: Inter Guru 1 Gurupies Utd 1

Here are today's top price changes:
Gainers
Bramble, Titus + 320,000 Cordone, Daniel + 200,000 Beckham, David + 180,000 Smith, Alan + 130,000 Venus, Mark + 120,000 Carrick, Michael + 110,000 Stuart, Graham + 100,000 Henry, Thierry + 90,000 Hamann, Dietmar + 90,000 Wanchope, Paulo + 70,000 Pallister, Gary + 70,000 Hendrie, Lee + 70,000 Owen, Michael + 70,000 Desailly, Marcel + 60,000 Clarke, Matt + 60,000
Losers
Varga, Stanislav -100,000 Stanic, Mario -90,000 Johnsen, Ronny -90,000 Hasselbaink, Jimmy Floyd -80,000 Melchiot, Mario -70,000 Babbel, Markus -50,000 Holloway, Darren -50,000 Gascoigne, Paul -50,000 Boksic, Alen -40,000 Pistone, Alessandro -40,000 Hendry, Colin -40,000 Kanoute, Frederic -40,000 Dublin, Dion -40,000 Traore, Djime -40,000 Giggs, Ryan -40,000
I'm glad that Desailly made the list and El-Khalej is gone. I wasn't too keen on him anyway, so maybe I'll change my vote from El-K->Desailly. And Johnsen lost mad cash!! I might have to trade out of him after all.

Don't know where everyone is. Really too bad more people are not playing. The more I look into this game the more I like it. Available info isn't too great but what the heck!
Guess it's time to sell Johnson?

The next round of fixtures contains 4 short-odds home wins, with good chances of clean sheets. These are Man U v Brad,Leeds v Man C,Liv v A Villa and Leic v Ips.I favour Rowett over Ipswich defenders.Butt is worth 3 games as Keane's replacement.Smicer was hotter than Barmby in feeding Owen on Saturday.Ian Harte is a fantasy god,and Bowyer looked hungry for goals. These are suggestions rather than votes.I support Flowers,Cordone,Beckham and Smith.I don't think Ziege is fit yet.El Khalej got a lucky (offside) goal when he came on as sub to boost his figures. Ummm....that's it El Tel

1) Johnsen's on my team for the season: it's not worth two trades to sell him.
My votes:
G: Flowers
D: Bramble Venus Pallister Johnsen
M: Cordone Beckham Hamann Smicer
S: Smith Henry
As for the name, how about Real Guru.

So far the votes are:
G: Flowers 4
D: Bramble 3 Venus 3 Pallister 3 Desailly 1 (or 0 if Johnsen is fit) Johnsen 1 (or 2 if he is fit)
M: Cardone 4 Beckham 4 Carrick 1 Graham 2 Hamann 2 Smicer 1
S: Smith 4 Henry 3
name: Inter Guru 1 Gurupies Utd 1 Real Guru 1
I changed my vote from El-Khalej to Desailly. However, if anyone can get confirmation that Johnsen is fit and will be ready for the next match, I'll vote for Johnsen.
It looks like Flowers, Venus, Pallister, Cardone, Beckham, Smith, and Henry are in. This still leaves us with 1 defender and 2 midfielders to select (and a team name).
Where's Frank P. and PermDude? Maybe their votes can clarify things. I'll probably draft the team tonight, so if there aren't any new votes or suggestions I'll just flip a coin or something.

Hey guys, I've been real busy getting assignments started and finished, so sorry I'm late. I pretty much agree with roo's team, but I'm wondering if we have the cash, we could get Barthez in before the freeze. We have discussed the reasoning behind having some studs in from the start and as he picks up more wins, the lemmings will all get him and up goes his value. Food for thought, or the rantings of a crazed Aussie?

I vote the following players: Johnsen (when healthy), Henry, Smith, Bramble, Barthez (not Flowers), Cordone, Beckham, Hendrie (A.Villa), Venus, Desailly and Hammann.
FYI Jaap Stam (Man U.) is injured, there is a good chance he won't be able to play. Who will be his replacement when he doesn't make it?

I tallied the votes and came up with this starting lineup:
"Inter Guru" (id 64771)
Flowers
Venus Bramble Desailly Pallister
Smicer Cordone Beckham Hamann
Smith Henry
There were only 2 positions that still hadn't been decided by solid voting support: 1 defender and 1 midfielder. I chose to go with Desailly over Johnsen because I still haven't heard about Johnsen's recovery from injury, and picked Smicer over Carrick and Graham because it seemed as though there was more enthusiasm for him than the others.
This ended up being quite an expensive team after all, at 49.67 million, but it looks pretty good pont-wise. Hopefully it isn't too late to cash in on some of the money gains of these guys.
The tribe has spoken.

Whoops. I gotta stay more in touch with this board. The beginning of the American football season has taken too much of my time this week.
This looks like a solid team. Certainly should do OK in both points and $$$ gains.
