I assume Perm Dude is Permdudes and that blue hen is the Fighting Blue-Hens. Other than that I'm not sure. I don't know much about about soccer(I'm more of a football, basketball and baseball fan) but I hope that we can fill the division and have as much fun as we have had in other sports in SW. Thanks Perm Dude, I got in. I was just wondering do you have a Perm or are you just a big fan of the Perm. It reminds me of my college days. You've heard of those wrestling matches where the loser has to shave his head. Well me an a budy had a bet were the loser had to get a Perm. My freind lost and boy did he look stupid. Ha! Thanks for the kind words. Actually, I am a Rights and Permissions Editor, and that's where the "perm" moniker comes from. My field (book publishing rights) is actually full of "women of a certain age" and so there are few men and fewer young people at all (I'm 35); the nickname just drives home the point of difference in my work with others in my field and helps open some doors, I think. I work for myself and haven't had to solicit new work in years, so I'm doing something right! pd | |||||

Most of my work involves obtaining permission to use third-party material in books; for example, there might be a college textbook anthology for which I would have to track down the rightsholders for the stories, poetry, plays, etc to be published. I'd negotiate the fees, make sure the contracts are OK, credit lines reprinted, fees paid, etc. I work for all the major textbook publishers, and most of the trade ones. I did the permissions work, for example, for the last edition of The Norton Anthology of Poetry. On the other side, I act on behalf of a number of organizations, such as literary presses, agents, authors, author's estates, etc., in which I grant permission requests they receive to reprint their material (often in the same kind of anthologies I'm clearing at the same time for someone else!). I work for people like the estates of WEB Du Bois and Katherine Anne Porter, and small literary publishers like West End Press, Zephyr Press, and Milkweed Editions. pd | |||||

Just kind of fell into it; I was in Cincinnati after graduating from Xavier, doing a jazz show on WXVU, when I decided to move to NYC. A job opening at Macmillan Publishing Company got me going after freelancing for 4 months for someone else. 12 years (!) later, here I am. I'm actually going to be taking my 3-year old to his first game. I'm going to start small and take him to see the Somerville Patriots (closest minor league team to my place here in Hunterdon County, NJ). | |||||
