0 Subject: Message Board Team (Week 2)

Okay guys, here's our team right now:

Flowers

Venus
Bramble
Desailly
Pallister

Smicer
Cordone
Beckham
Hamann

Smith
Henry

cash: 330,000

We got a nice sum of points from Beckham and Smith on Tuesday (254 total SW). We'll know how the others produced after Wednesday's SW are up.

Based on what I've read from this week's matches, I can offer this: We need to pick up Johnsen (it looks like he's fit again), probably for Venus or Bramble. Sure he only got 70-odd points last match but he's a bargain that can't be passed up. Besides, Man U play Sunderland next at home, so the prospect of a clean sheet is good. We also need to pick up Owen (I think we can afford Smith->Owen if we also trade Venus->Johnsen). His hat-trick will catch people's attention (money train?) and he's still undervalued compared to other strikers. If he rounds into the form of his earlier days he will be a mad points machine. I'm glad I resisted the temptation to trade him for Smith on my team. Other thoughts to follow once I digest Wed night's results.

Any thoughts from anyone else?

Venus,Pallister I think must go.Smicer is doubtful,having been subbed early with a hammy.Edworthy for Venus?Beckham,Hamann and Henry are all top candidates for a pre-Euro rest,having played regularly so far,but you can't change everyone.Kinkladze for Smicer is an option I'll be looking at.

Here's where we stand:

(prices reflect today's changes; only Beckham and Smith have SWP reflecting this week's matches)

SWP: 254
WWR: 35611
RV: 53.95 M
cash: .33 M
trades: 8

Flowers (3.63 M, 471 SWP)

Venus (3.67 M, 304 SWP)
Bramble (2.27 M, 317 SWP)
Desailly (5.03 M, 253 SWP)
Pallister (3.82 M, 272 SWP)

Smicer (3.33 M, 276 SWP)
Cordone (2.87 M, 311 SWP)
Beckham (9.70 M, 689 SWP)
Hamann (6.33 M, 351 SWP)

Smith (4.21 M, 438 SWP)
Henry (9.09 M, 442 SWP)

We're doing okay, considering 1) we started late, 2) Wed's SWP aren't up yet, and 3) we focused a lot on money-making to take advantage of the lull in the schedule. Money-wise we're doing well, having made over 4 M in about a week's time.

Having had a little more time to think things over here's what I propose to do (with the caveat that I still don't know the most recent SWP updates), by position:

G: Flowers- I think we should hang onto him . His value is still rising, he's around 3 M cheaper than Barthez, and next up is a home-game v. Southampton.

D: Venus/Bramble- Time to get rid of one or both. We picked them up to take advantage of their rising value, but now that these have slowed it's time to say goodbye. However, they do play Villa at home next, and Villa haven't been lighting up the scoreboard thus far. Also, Bramble's gains are continuing (he gained another 80,000 today).
Possible replacements:
R. Johnsen (.86 M, 253 SWP) His gains have resumed, he's under a million, and he has a solid spot in Man U's line-up. Need I say more?
C. Ziege ( 4.27 M, 0 SWP) A first-rate defender for a stingy defensive team. His money losses have slowed and he will soon rise in value once he gets on the pitch. Hopefully he will be fit for this weekend's home game v. Man City.
G LeSaux ( .51 M, -6 SWP) He just made his first start and is cheap. He should get plenty of playing time with Babayaro going to the Olympics.

Pallister- Unsure what to do about him. Maybe we can trade him for one of the above three defenders? Or we can keep Bramble and trade Pallister instead?
Desailly- Keep.

M: Smicer- Get rid of him. I think he got hurt during the last match 'cause he was replaced after only 18 minutes (what's the 411 on the injury?). Replacement: any suggestions? Maybe Kinkladze (1.59 M, 0 SWP), who played his first game as a sub.
Cordone-Keep.
Beckham-No doubts at all to keep him. He's been the best player thus far.
Hamann-Keep.

S: Smith-Time to trade him, not necessarily because of poor performance but because Owen's brilliance on the pitch, bargain price, and soaring price make him this week's "Best Buy". We could trade Henry but why trade out of one of the Premiership's top 2 or 3 strikers? There should be money to carry this out once the trades on defense are carried out.
Henry- Keep (see above).

Shoot! I just read the newest threads talking about upcoming Euro matches and stars being rested. Hopefully none of our players will be rested this week, but we might not know until match time.

Just the clarify things, the last sentence at the end of Smith's blurb above refers to Smith->Owen, since Owen (5.99 M, 242 SWP) costs more than Smith and we only have 0.33 M in the bank.

yes get Smith for Owen and swap Venus to Johnsen. I don't support the LeSaux vote. I question his playing time will be worth it.
I would rather get someone like Ziege if he will play or Campbell from Tottenham.

It looks like you all agree that Smith->Owen and swap Venus->Johnsen is good. I will make these moves tonight, before the prices are updated. We need more input to figure out the other moves, namely Pallister->?? (LeSaux or Ziege) and what to do with Smicer, although it looks like Kinkladze will get voted in.

What about Pallister -> Silvinho and Smicer to Carrick?

I just finished trading Venus->Johnsen and Smith->Owen. This leaves us with 6 transfers remaining and 1.36 M in cash.

For the other positions: (including my own votes for Le Saux and Carrick)

3 votes for Pallister->Le Saux
1 vote for Pallister->Ziege
1 vote for Pallister->Silvinho

2 votes for Smicer->Kinkladze
2 vote for Smicer->Carrick

Edgar, you didn't vote for the midfield. Maybe you can break the deadlock.

There is no urgency to make these moves right away to capitalize on money gains (except for Carrick), so I won't make them until Fri night. Hopefully we'll have some more input by then. Or even last-minute news that will help our decision.

Please not Le Saux! After his performance v. Arsenal I give him 2 games before he either gets sent off and suspended or (hopefully) gets his jaw broken!

Wow Roo, talk about passion! :-) Okay, to tell you the truth I'm not totally sold on LeSaux. I prefer Ziege but it's still unclear what his status is. If you (or someone else) can find out from a reliable source what that is, I will change my vote to Ziege and then maybe you can change yours to him too. Otherwise we'll go with Le Saux, at least for the time being, or until he breaks his jaw ;-).

Here's our team for this week's freeze:

Flowers

LeSaux
Bramble
Desailly
Johnsen

Carrick
Cordone
Beckham
Hamann

Owen
Henry

I didn't see in any previews that Ziege was going to play this weekend (on the contrary they all said he wouldn't be playing), so I stuck to my Le Saux vote and he had the most votes. There was a tie for who would replace Smicer, so I picked Carrick because of his gains.

Check out Jeffers from Everton.. I would trade
Henry for him in a heart beat (no. 1 striker and cheaper than Owen!)

Yes Jeffers seems like a good pickup but in the long run I would say Owen and Henry will probably outproduce him. But moneywise it could be a good investment.
Roo: Lesaux did fine! Suprised me as well. Let's see what his price does next.

Phenomenal performance by our lads,with Carrick still to come.Wish either of my teams could have matched it!
Jeffers is only 19 and won't play every game,but he's very good.Campbell returned on Saturday for 10 mins.Together last season they were lethal,but Jeffers had a lot of run-ins with Smith on top of injuries.
Kinkladze oozed class in his 30 minute cameo yesterday.Everything on hold 'til friday with the big boys involvement in Europe.

PS Will SW ever sort out last week's scores?
