0 Subject: Message Board Team (Week 6)

Our team scored a respectable 428 SWP on Saturday, from only 5 players. We're still waiting for Sunday's SWP. With the market so screwy, we should think about who to drop/pick up for money purposes. We have plenty of trades left so we can afford to pick up gainers who we might not necessarily keep for the roster freeze.

I suggest Di Canio->A. Smith. Any others?

current roster:

Flowers

Harte
Le Saux
Pearce
Johnsen

Scholes
Carrick
Beckham
Cole

Owen
Di Canio

9 transfers
1.49 M cash

P.S. With baseball finally over (now was that an interesting final week-end?)--that's the last time I manage more than one SW team--I can concentrate more on soccer, at least until I start obsessing about SW hockey.

Correction: We scored 726, not 428, and 223 on Sunday. And the next Premiership matches won't be until the weekend of Saturday, October 14, due to World Cup qualifying matches, so we'll have 2 transfer refreshes before then. This should be a good money-making time, just like the similar situation a few weeks ago. I've posted the matches below to help stimulate some ideas.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 14

Arsenal v Aston Villa
Coventry City v Tottenham Hotspur
Everton v Southampton
Ipswich Town v West Ham United
Leeds United v Charlton Athletic
Leicester City v Manchester United
Manchester City v Bradford City
Sunderland v Chelsea

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15

Derby County v Liverpool

MONDAY, OCTOBER 16

Middlesbrough v Newcastle United

Bubba, you forgot Leeds vs Aston Villa at October 18.

I like di Canio -> A. Smith move. I think Owen should be replaced too (and bought back before 14th) - he's been losing in price lately and this trend will probably continue for a while. I think Thierry Henry or Marcus Stewart would be good replacements.

Make the money Bubba.Sorry about Desailly->Harte.Leeds are in Turkey on the 18th,though the Villa fixture list on Sky continues to show a make-up game that day;5/5/01 is floated elsewhere.
My patience with SW's handling of this game is evaporating fast.I've e-mailed them to this effect. The scoring currently makes no sense. My better team was 8th yesterday and 1700 and something today-both wrong.Luckily their message boards are carrying many similar complaints.I wish we had J or aa running standings so that we could see just how compromised the integrity of this game is.Let's hope they sort it out.Otherwise I'll do a di Canio on Mr Mattingly and serve a suspension sine die.

Thanks Urmas. You're right, we should get rid of Owen also. There wasn't as obvious a replacement for him as Smith was for Di Canio, but Henry is as good a choice as any. I will go ahead and make these trades now, before the price change.

Di Canio->A, Smith
Owen->Henry

Thanks El Tel! I would've invested heavily in Leeds and Villa players hoping to pick up that extra game... Another proof, that RotoGuru boards are damn useful!

Hey Urmas, don't let a little thing like that stop you stacking Leeds players. With all the transfers I might well go with Harte,Bowyer,Bakke,Smith and Viduka home to Charlton.

With so many transfers in hand, I took the initiative of trading Johnsen->Rowett to try and get a piece of his upward value.

So now we have:

Flowers

Harte
Rowett
Pearce
Le Saux

Scholes
Carrick
Cole
Beckham

Smith
Henry

10 transfers
2.56 M in cash

Sounds good Bubba.

Is the scoring screwed up or what? I scored about 70 less than the first place team in our division, but went from 300+ wwr to 3,000+!!!. The first place team in my division is still ranked in the top 100.

Did they double points somewhere or am I just ranting?

VID,the scoring and ranking are completely effed up.SW has not acknowledged my e-mail as yet,but I have prised some form of recognition of the problem from The Commish(whoever he is)on the member services section of the SW notice boards.Feel I am transmogrifying into an eccentric German and award myself first vote as
Boycott Smallworld Jnr.

All Hail the first Boycott Smallworld Jr! BTW did you have to get permission from Hark? :)

Thanks guys for being so vigilant when it comes to scoring and stuff. I'm too clueless/lazy when it comes to that. Hopefully I'll benefit from any corrections, otherwise I rescind my thanks! In all seriousness, it's hard to enjoy the game when it's so lacking in integrity.

Well I just rechecked. The first place team in my division scored less than I did this weekend, but went up to 19 wwr, while I lost 3,000 wwr!

This is crazy!

Although it's at least 2 days too late I think we'd still be beter off if we go Beckham -> Hamann NOW, because:

1. Beckham dropped 590KŁ today, but is still way above his initial price. Hamann has gone up for last muchas days.

2. Beckham aggravated his injury in WC qualification game against Germany and is not expected to play against Finland this Wednesday. Hamann scored the lone goal of the game.

3. Next opponent of ManU is Leicester. Liverpool will play Derby.

You're absolutely right, Urmas. Thanks for the heads-up. I just made that trade for my own team and for us. I hadn't done much web surfing lately, so I didn't realize Beckham was injured and was dropping like a rock in value. After making the Beckham->Hamann trade, we have 9 transfers and 6.19 M.

Le Saux has started a slippery slide too after his calf injury prevented him going to Finland.
Silvinho?

What's up with Le Saux? He just lost 100,000. Should we trade him for Desailly or someone else?

At least I dropped Beckham in time (-830,000 today). Is that the highest one day drop so far?

Thanks El Tel. Looks like we posted at the same time. So far we have 2 suggestions for Le Saux's replacement: Silvinho and Desailly. Any others?

Desailly and Silvinho are both good. My vote goes to Le Saux -> Desailly.

I have a feeling Le Saux may be in for a big loss today, since he was yesterday's only 100-grand loser (apart from Beckham). So I will do Le Saux->Desailly even though there were only 3 votes, 2 for Desailly and 1 for Silvinho.

Nice pun Roo!

Here's our current team:

Flowers

Harte
Rowett
Pearce
Desailly

Scholes
Carrick
J. Cole
Hamann

Smith
Henry

Transfers Remaining: 12
SWŁ Remaining: 2,780,000
Lineup Value: 68,320,000 SWŁ

We don't have any worries for the time being as far as big money losers, so that's good. With all of our transfers, should we make any other moves before the roster freeze?

I quite like the current official sleeper of Smallworld. So that would be Carrick -> Anderton then. I think Anderton, back from injury, may do better against not so good Coventry than Carrick against surprisingly good Ipswich.

Some more food for thought (no votes here):

Drop Pearce? Somehow I don't like the idea of having too much Hammers in our roster before their game against Ipswich. Sure Pearce has done very well recently, but... With Adams possibly out with injury, Oleg Luzhny could be good replacement.

Do we really want to have Flowers when Foxes face the strong attack of ManU? It's even rumored that Beckham may return to this game. Maybe we'd be better off with Ed De Goey?

I've also had this idea about picking up Owen, but I don't think we really need to do this in MBT. Both Henry and Smith are just as likely to have good games as Owen is. But Derby's defense sure is a leaky one.

I like Ed de Goey. He's a stud. And what about Boksic?

Good insights Urmas. I'm a bit hesitant about picking up Anderton because of his past injury problems. Maybe a good performance this week will win me over. I still like Carrick, because he is the second-best sub-5 M Ł midfielder in terms of SWP/game and I think West Ham is due for a break-out game. They're too talented to continue with their meagre goals-per-game thus far.

I absolutely agree that this is a good time to trade out of Flowers. Man U can put up mad points and if that happens Flowers' value will drop a la Beckham. He's probably been one of the top three value gainers this season so any fall can avalanche. Who to get? I propose the following, based on poor-scoring opponents:

1) De Goey- v. Sunderland (7 goals)
2) Barthez- v. Leicester (7 goals)
3) the Man City 'keeper (will Weaver be healthy this week?)- v. Bradford (a league-low 4 goals)

I will cast my vote for De Goey, since his opponent next week will be Coventry (8 goals) at home, I think.

Two more things:

1) How long will Adams be out? If it's gonna be a while, we should consider what Urmas mentioned and think of getting Oleg Luzhny.

2) I think Boksic has a head injury.

1) SoccerUpdate lists Adams as doubtful for Villa game. TeamTalk says he'll undergo a fitness test before the game. I think he may be back sooner than we expect. Actually Luzhny may play anyway, so we shouldn't really let Adams stop us here. Sure, I'd prefer Stephen Carr of Tottenham, but I'm not sure we have enough cash. Maybe after picking up Ed de Goey?

2) That's right, Boksic has head injury. I'd prefer Smith and Henry (and Owen) to Boksic anyway.

I think we can be more or less sure, that Beckham won't play against Leicester. That'll take some force off the ManU offence, but they're still very strong. Barthez is doubtful too.

I traded Flowers->De Goey last night. Good thing, since Flowers went down 90K this morning. Our team at the freeze is:

De Goey

Harte
Rowett
Pearce
Desailly

Scholes
Carrick
J. Cole
Hamann

Smith
Henry

No shows by Scholes(Fergie tactics) and Hamaan(calf injury in training).I've gone Hamaan to Berger to protect money ,because he's sound for next Sat and looked good.
