Subject: Message Board Team (Week 23)

Hi everyone. Our team at the freeze was:
Barthez
Stam Brown S. Pearce Ferdinand
Vieira Pires Solano Beckham
Keane Viduka
we have 20 transfers and 4,390,000 SWŁ
As Sigh commented in another post, the strategy of picking players from team with extra games hasn't worked too well--I believe "sucks" is how Sigh so eloquently phrased it :)--only an "extra" 136 pts on top of the 594 from the weekend. Oh well, back to the ol' drawing board so to speak.
Any ideas on this weekend's matches? The only suggestion I have right now is to get rid of Vieira (suspension this weekend, if I'm not mistaken). Maybe pick up Roy Keane or Izzet as a replacement? Anyone else?

Hi Bubba. I picked up Keane (Roy) and Hasselbaink. Don't feel comfortable with Barthez at Chelsea but who else? Harte's been playing well. So has Gerrard.
Hope this helps. Wait for word from the mighty El Tel:)

Leeds faces Derby at home, that should be a good game for Leeds. I don't fancy Manu's chances against Chelsea, they haven't been up to their standards lately. Perhaps a surprise victory for Chelsea here.
Sunderland is tough at home so Liverpool will have their hands full.
That said I would go from Vieira to Keane myself, Roy's been putting up better numbers than e.g. Beckham lately.

Hi guys. Thanks for the input. I like the Vieira to Keane also. My own team already had Keane so I picked up Izzet. Any Southampton players "en fuego", as we say in the baseball boards? They play host this week to lowly Bradford.

Vieira to Keane looks solid, and is the only forced move,I think.Alternates would be Bowyer or Dyer if Sir Fergie persists in subbing his stars with Europe recommencing next week. But hopefully a repeat of the 3-3 is on the cards. I'm personally happy with the results of doubling up.It's simply a matter of some you win(Harte,Keane)and some you lose(Bakke dropped, when I was sure Bowyer would miss Everton).Viduka's perfectly valid but disallowed goal late on at Ipswich would have been all the validation needed. This will remain my strategy for when cancelled games get rescheduled. I am flattered to be considered 'The Mighty' El Tel

PS Becks took Posh to an Eminem 'concert' last night. No surprises if he's booked for foul and abusive language.

Hey, anyone looking at the goalie situation here? I don't have a good feeling about Barthez for the weekend. Any replacements or just let it be? Perhaps Seaman?

Hi Guys, I am sorry to butt in on your conversation but there seems to be nobody else on the boards.
El Tel, I agree with your doubling up tactic, some you win some you lose, Bakke was a pain though !! Good to see teletubbies pusing Liverwood all the way !!
The striker situation this week is a bit strange too, all the big teams play each other so picking a striker who 'should' score looks difficult, any ideas ?
Cheers,
Dai 'Liverwood' & 'Littlepool'

For goalie, I'm hanging onto Barthez on my own team. Hopefully there won't be a repeat of last year's 5-0 result. The usual replacements--e.g. Westerveld, Sorensen--don't seem to be any more promising. If you really want to get rid of Barthez, I suppose Seaman is as good a replacement as anyone else.

Dai, I agree striker is a bit of a toss-up this week. I'm gonna stick with my Leeds duo of Keane and Viduka unless something comes up (injury, etc.).

I'm Leeds up front and in goal, and optimistic.Mind you it wouldn't be the biggest shock if Martyn was dropped after Wed's clanger.Seaman looks past it to me.Jones of Soton for a one-off clean sheet? El Tel

What do you guys think about Marcus Stewart(S) for this week? He has had a string of good games lately, think it will continue?

Kanoute from West Ham & Keane from Leeds. However, I have a gut feeling about Chelsea and Hasselbaink. I think I'm trading Barthez for Martyn or Jones (he's been very good).

Me too Sigh about Hasselbaink. Don't really know why. I also want to make a switch at goalie. Don't know if I will but I will look into the replacements mentioned here.

You guys really like Jones? I was contemplating that, given the competetion, but I don't have a good idea of his abilities.

Know what? I took a flyer on Jones. If it doesn't work at least I tried something different.

Tom--I don't know about M. Stewart this week due to 1) Ipswich's poor form as of late and 2) Arsenal's strength at home. Having written this, he'll probably get a hat-trick just to spite me :P

I'm pleased at the amount of activity in this thread. I was beginning to think people had lost interest in Smallworld Premier League, but it seems like the "core" soccer gurupies is still game. Thanks everyone for the input.
Based on the discussion, the transfers this week are Vieira->Roy Keane and Barthez->Jones. So our team at the freeze is:
Jones
Stam Ferdinand S. Pearce Brown
Roy Keane Pires Solano Beckham
Robbie Keane Viduka
Transfers Remaining: 18 SWŁ Remaining: 8,790,000
Good luck everyone!

Very good gutfeeling about Barthez and Hasselbaink by me if I may say so. Barthez 0 swp and Hasselbaink a goal. Lovely.
