This thread will contain all of the individual pick rationales for the 2017-18 RIHC draft. RIHC managers should supply those rationales in the Rationale Collection thread. You will not be able to post directly into this thread.

I expect that this thread will be updated at least daily.

draft pick #2: I can't remember having such a high choice in RIHC, so logically as long as there is some drop off after the first few guys you want to be in that first tier. This year I though that the top 3 choices would be Harden/Westbrook/Ante... (this name is harder to write than Roethlisberger). I prefer Harden, which is the least likely of them being available at #3, so I took slot #2 and hope for the best.

I was really surprised about the #1 pick being Towns. I really thought Swish would take Harden or Antetokounmpo.

Harden was #1 on the ESPN player rater last year. With Westbrook having more competition on his own team he is likely to be less worth this year. I had Antetokounmpo at #2 and Westbook at #3.

There is no need to talk much about Harden. With Chris Paul in town he might see a slight dip in production, but even then he will hopefully be the best fantasy baller in the league.

1.03 Antetokounmpo, Giannis - MIL - SF
Draft position #3: No real reason, other than I would have been happy with any pick top 5, 3rd slot was available, so.....

I never expected Westbrook to be available, and had prepared to pick either Harden or Giannis. I'm shocked Westbrook went 1.06. As tempting as he was ( and he probably was the pick I should have made ), I decided to go with Giannis, having never owned him, ever, in fantasy hoops.

Many mock drafts had him #1, and other than 3's he contributes in every other cat, giving me a solid base to work off. At 22, his upside is ridiculous and I'm expecting huge things from him, even possibly knocking some in from beyond the arc. If he adds 3's to his arsenal, watch out.

The only knock I have is I have trouble pronouncing his name

I didn't really expect Westbrook to be available here, so was happy to take him. His usage will come down but I expect him to fill up the stat sheet and it will be fun to build a team around him.

No real surprises ahead of me other than some order differences. Kawhi Leonard probably scared some off with the preseason shutdown. He is solid everywhere so I was very happy to click the draft button!

John Wall, selected best available, high pts and assists. Was hoping Lebron would fall to me, but Da bomb grabbed him. Good Luck getting him to play with Irving dude, hehe.

1.11 Jokic, Nikola - DEN - C
The first 10 players picked were the ones I would have expected. With my first two picks, I figured I’d get a big and a guard. With Lilliard, Paul, and Irving available, I decided to get the big now, and wait for the guard after the turn.

Jokic started slowly last year, but finished strong, with 171pts, 11.6reb, and 6.1 assts after the ASB in 30 minutes. The addition of Millsap could change his usage a bit, but the minutes and offensive production should be there, along with a gaudy FG% and 80+% at the charity stripe. He’s not a prodigious shot blocker – but if he was, he’d probably be a top-5 player. I’m hoping to get solid contributions across the board.

Demarcus Cousins was my other thought, but I decided to go with the guy who was less of a knucklehead.
