0 Subject: 2007 Poli football keeper league discussion

Posted by: Tree
- [3533298] Wed, Jul 11, 2007, 08:48

i'd like keepers to be named by Monday, August 20, 11:59 pm eastern time, and for us to be ready to draft Wednesday morning at 9 am eastern, August 22, right after the second week of pre-season games end.

i'm going to be out of town a lot on and off during those two weeks right after the draft starts, but i should have computer access much of the time, so i'll be checking in as often as possible.

ugh. not having significant email last night sucked.

PD - can you take over Stuck's team?

as i mentioned before, i believe you can set up teams now with a co-manager. i'm not 100 percent sure what that entails, but that will allow Don to take back if and when he's ready.

as for Matt's team - Bili's friend might be the best - although possibly temporary - solution.

quick thoughts?

Starting at 2pm today I won't be around much so hopefully some things get fixed. Tomorrow I will be MIA at a concert till midnight or so (Found out they are streaming it live on Myspace too).

ok - 11 teams have named keepers, and that's good.

the only question mark obviously is Matt's old team - it bums me out he's gone totally MIA.

we're in a bind, but even if we can find an interim manager to take over the the team to name keepers and do the draft, that would help.

PD has not yet signed up for the Kafenatid draft, but he has the info, so i think that will be forthcoming.

the draft is *scheduled* to start tomorrow morning. if we don't have a 12th or my internet is down again tonight, we may have to delay it by a few hours, as i can't input keepers until all 12 managers are signed up for the draft.

There haven't been any objections to bili's friend; maybe he can confirm that and go with it absent any better solution.

I agree that at this point, culling teams is not a good solution.

I wrote him an email with the details, but he works construction, so he probably won't read it until tonight.

Just got off the phone with Clyde.

He's game I think, but would want to play to team, not just draft it. What happens if Sox shows up in a couple of days?

Also, he was pretty disappointed with his keepers, and I told him I'd trade him Chad Johnson and my 2nd round pick for his 1st rounder, so he actually has 4 players to keep. I told him this would have to be approved by the league, as it's after the trade deadline. Does anyone object?

I am glad to have Clyde step in.

Bili... His keepers cannot be worse than my keepers. I am against the trade described (especially since I would have taken that offer and moved you up two draft slots had the offer been made to me.)

He will have ample time to start rebuilding his roster in the draft over the next couple of seasons and his weak roster is another reason to not increase offensive keepers next year. (I guess it is weak...I have only seen my roster and have no idea what a winning roster looks like in this league)

Well, tax, the offer was/is made to you.

I've been trying to trade Chad for a month, with no offers.

Clyde has been effectively unable to trade, and that was his offer. I actually tossed in my second rounder because I was concerned that people would think I was taking advantage of him, but if you are offering me the first overall, I will take it, provided the league approves. Personally I think you had your chance, but Clyde hasn't, and so I would lean toward the lesser deal, but if that's your concern, so be it.

Clyde is a good manager, and he will compete with whatever he's given, so I'm not too concerned. Just thought he should get a chance to make some trades, and I feel objectively that I have the most to offer him.

Maybe the best answer would be to open trading back up for a couple of days. Let you (and anyone else interested) get into a bidding war for Chad. ;)

Seriously, probably the fairest thing is to open trading again and give Clyde a chance to see if someone's willing to offer him something better than Chad, or some other, better deal.

And you can give me your first overall.

My suggestion was mainly due to expedience, because Tree seems to be in a hurry.

Sounds like Punk's AWOL tomorrow anyway.

Reread the trade, Tax. My 2nd and Chad for his 1st rounder. Not his second rounder.

Well I obviously have made a motion; to the league, if not specifically the commish.

I certainly will abide by whatever is decided (however that is supposed to be), and appreciate you giving your input, though I feel very strongly that everyone should have an opportunity to trade before selecting keepers. Every team has, except Sox/Clyde.

I misread the trade...but like me, he would be trading blind because he does not know what you have to throw away. He only knows his roster, which liked mine, he didn't draft or assemble, but it sucks and he is stuck with it

I am in agreemnet with reopening trading, but as a condition precedent, all rosters need be posted so that we can see which players will not be kept and thus present draft picks as good or better than what we are trading for.

Otherwise, we should commence with drafting. Neither is my call, I am stating an opinion here.

I'll read about it tomorrow. G'night.

If anyone knows exactly where I can find my end of season roster I would be greatful. I can take a pretty reliable guess, but I can't verify it.

Also I was wondering how early an extra first round pick I could get if I gave up Clinton Portis? Listening to offers.

hey foks -

several points.

1. yes, my internet at home is still down. i can access just about everything with my Treo, but yahoo mobile sucks and i can't do much with that. additionally, making long posts on here isn't fun.

2. Baldwin, what on earth are you talking about? if you think there is an intentional attempt to keep people from the Right out of this league, you're just being ridiculous. i want good owners in this league - i couldn't give two $hits about political opinions when it comes to this league.

open spots were offered to right- (and left-)leaning members of this board, but they declined. Boikin - who did accept - i believe is fairly moderate, but leans right. Keep in mind that one of most right-leaning members of this board QUIT THE LEAGUE, and many other right-leaning members of this board abandoned the place altogether.

your accusation is inappropriate and offensive, and i'll not address the subject again.

3. Clyde coming into this league - bili, thanks for your efforts. i'm than open to welcoming newcomers and non-board members, especially since we're in dire straits at the moment. a couple of questions/concerns.

a. you said he works construction - is that going to make it difficult/impossible for him to draft during the day? because i think we're going to be faced with a rather fast draft, and i don't want to put him at a dis-advantage during the day.

b. i have no issues with the trade per se, although i think it's a little lopsided, but not terribly so. my issue is whether the trade was a condition to get him to join the league. if it was, then i take issue with it.

honestly, his keepers are pretty solid even without the trade: Brady is a top 5 QB, Parker a top 10 RB, Jacobs a top 20 RB, and Branch, Betts, and Watson all reasonable (albeit, not great) fourth keepers. The fourth keeper on this team would have been Vick, but obviously he's not a keeper anymore. that's the nature of fantasy football - no different, than say, Tiki Barber retiring.

4. the draft itself. i think it's pretty clear we need to postpone - probably until Friday, to get this thing sorted out. my weekend will be insane, but i'll draft as draft can.

i'm thinking of beginning the draft - if everyone is on board - friday morning at 9 am - with a 6 hour clock through the weekend, dropping to four hours if we need to come monday morning

any thoughts on all of the above?

plus Ray Lewis (Bal - DL) acquired via pre-draft trade.

btw - i'd like to follow up my comments about the keepers on Clyde's team re: Michael Vick - to a certain extend, i was in the same position with PacMan Jones. he was a definite keeper for me, but his off-season behaviour cost me that.

No, the trade wasn't a pre-condition. Yes he works construction, but his hours are something like 2-midnight, pacific, which would leave him free until almost 5 eastern, I think, which is when the majority of the action took place in past drafts.

He was fine with setting up long Qs, in any case.

I haven't gotten a chance to talk to him in any detail about this league. Just a quick phone call on his way to work.

I'll try and get him on the boards this morning, and explain katydid to him.

... and if Baldwin has a regular poster in mind who he can vouch for as a quality manager, who he thinks he could talk into jumping in, I think he should be given priority.

I only thought of Clyde because he's currently drafting in football, and he is extremely committed to every league I've ever played with him in.

i'm thinking the earliest first round pick you could get for Portis would be somewhere around the 4th or 5th round, based on the current trade market.

if Chad Johnson is worth a first, Torry Holt a second, and Ronnie Brown a third, i think you'd be thanking your lucky stars to get a fourth round pick for Portis, to be honest.

Mith & The Mentors (keepers in bold)

T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Cin - WR)
Julius Jones (Dal - RB)
Santana Moss (Was - WR)
Ronnie Brown (MIA - RB)
-- acquired via preseason trade with Tree
Antonio Bryant (SF - WR)
Mike Furrey (Det - WR)
Matt Jones (Jac - WR)
Wali Lundy (Hou - RB)
Eli Manning (NYG - QB)
Chad Pennington (NYJ - QB)
Anthony Thomas (Buf - RB)
Michael Turner (SD - RB)
Leon Washington (NYJ - RB)
Jason Witten (Dal - TE)

Jeff Wilkins (StL - K)

Antonio Pierce (NYG - DL)
Kerry Rhodes (NYJ - DB)

Rodney Harrison (NE - DB)
Ray Lewis (Bal - DL) -- traded to Tree
Bart Scott (Bal - DL)
Charles Woodson (GB - DB)

Details for the Ronnie Brown/Ray Lewis trade are in post 205 above.

ALSO - Given the situation that Clyde (and Perm Dude) find themselves in, I think it acceptable that they be allowed the leeway of completing a trade after the established deadline. However, I believe the proper way to do this is simply extend the league's keeper/trade deadline to allow Clyde and Perm Dude ample opportunity to consider potential trades before committing to their keepers.

Currently, Bili has exclusive access to Clyde, which should obviously also be rectified asap if we are going to allow post-deadline trades.

Notes to Clyde -

A quick review:

We play on yahoo. Check post 111 and you will see the settings. 4 offensive keepers, 2 defensive, as you know.

We will draft this year on this silly setup that some think makes things easier called Kafenatid.

I haven't used it in a year or two, so they may be right. It will be helpful for you, given your work schedule will force you to queue up a number of players. Once you get the hang of it, it makes things pretty easy, from what I remember.

You will have to sign up for both leagues. As soon as Tree (the commish) knocks Sox out of the Yahoo league, he'll send you a straight-forward, intelligible email with the passwords. Leave your email addy in a post here saying hi.

Don't get off-put by these guys. They think arguing is fun, so don't take them too seriously. They are mostly harmless. Except Baldwin.

You have a high 1st round pick, so you are going to get some trade offers to compete with the one we discussed with Chad. Obviously take the best deal, or feel free to change your mind and hold pat.

You will chew through some of these guys, but there are a number of good managers and it should be good, tough competition for you - just like you like it.

Welcome aboard!

Hey everyone, glad to jump into the fray........I didn't know B Jacobs was on the roster that I'm taking over, so I feel less of a need to make a trade now, but, of course, will perform due diligence and consider any and all offers : )

My Keepers:
Tom Brady
Willie Parker
Brandon Jacobs
Deion Branch

Adalius Thomas
Rashean Mathis

Tree: Addressing your concerns about the drafting--I don't have a problem with setting-up players in queue.

Baldwin: Even though I lean to da left, I will still give your trade offers a fair shake (only because Bili told he I had to, though) ; )

Actually rethinking, the offer I was pondering wouldn't would be of much help for you, Clyde.

But welcome to the league and thanks for taking over on short notice.

I'll vouch for Clyde's knowledge of baseball, at least. He's on par with just about anyone in any Rotoguru league. He stays active all season, his attention never waivers. He doesn't waste any of his precious time at the gym :)

You guys snagged a good one.

Go Clyde!

Clyde has registered for both Yahoo and Kafenatid already, much quicker than any of you mooks did, so he's ok in my book.

if i have internet access tonight, i'll input all the keepers. if i don't well, that's why i have a computer at my day job.
