I got a prize notification email from TSN today. Apparently it is for finishing in the top 100, because it mentions only that prize, and not a division winners prize. It would have been nice to have gotten all prizes consolidated in one set of release forms - especially when the amounts are so small.
There are a few wording anomalies. The email starts:
Dear TSN Strat-O-Matic Manager,
Congratulations on your outstanding performance in TSN Ultimate Baseball 2002!!!
Strat-O-Matic manager? C'mon guys, proofread your copy before sending it out!
Also, later on it states, "Please fill out the attached forms and fax them back to us at (775)261-2495 within 14 days so we may begin to expedite your prize accordingly."
Then it says, "Cash prizes may take up-to 2 months to be sent."
It sounds like the verb "expedite" was probably not particularly appropriate!
All-in-all, though, this has to be a record for speed in getting prize notifications out, even if it is sloppy and incomplete. I guess that's good.

umm,the message I received never mentions Strat-O-Matic Manager.
But does include the note return forms within 14 days or you "will forfeit the prize" or something like that. I have no fax machine and my internet service won't download the three forms. gee and I was going to leave in the morning for two to three weeks to spend with my dad who is 80 something at a farm we have in the middle of nowhere in WVA. dang.

Check the title of the email, Guru. Mine had something like (51-100) in the title. I don't recall whether it was addressed to Strat-O-Matic or not. I received it at school. It was a pleasant surprise since I finished at WWR 111.

FCJ, you'll need to specify which prize you won because one of the forms states the Fair Market Value of the prize. For example, mine specifically states the $25 prize. The other 2 forms appear to be generic.

Mine said the same strat o matic. I replied asking them if the division winnign prizes will be added in together--but I thought the exact same thing as Guru. Mine had $40 for finishing 21-30 place. wow, what a difference a day makes :(

yeah, i won prizes in all the baseball competitions, yet this form is just for the ultimate top 100, does it mean i will have to send in about 5 different forms all signed, or this one will cover all the money even though it just mentions 25$??
ok i know noone here can answer that, but i sent an email, i hope they answer fast, so i have time to find a shop that lets people send faxes.

Any Kinkos should have a fax you can use pretty cheap. If you don't have a Kinkos nearby, look for your local printing store as most of them will have fax services available.

Not sure if it's a fluke, mistake or what, but I got two top 100 prize notifications. Got a 10th and an 11-20. I had three teams finish in the top 20 (13, 19 and 20), but unless there are double managers in 1-12, I'm not sure how I got a 10th place notification. Nor am I sure why I got two since the rules clearly state that you only get one.
TSN, if this is incorrect, please email me at the email I've provided. I don't want to screw someone out of their rightful prize.

darkside - there might be one or more prize-ineligible managers who finished 1-10. That would allow you to rolldown (or is it roll up?) to the top ten.
But I don't know why you got multiple prize notices. Sounds like they forget to compensate for redundant awards, which means that there still may be some additional rolldown adjustments needed at all levels.

after posting earlier I checked all my mail and had three notices from TSN. the first for a 50-100 finish,one team did finish 82 or so. the second notice for a 7th place finish,then the third notice upgrading from 7th to 5th. I did have two teams in the top 10.
I'm still going to have to get the forms they want. Can't down load the forms and have no printer or anything. They are going to have to come up with some other options for folks like me,at least I would hope so.

Hmmm, wonder if this happened to any one else.
I recieved two notifications, the email said I was eligible for a prize of $30
The tax forms were different one said the prize was $25 and the other said $30
The $25 might have been a hoops prize I recieved and forwarded by mistake, if this happened to any one else make sure you fill out the proper one

indeed.. i was required to fill out the forms after winning $12 over the summer in the world cup game. it should be possible for them to keep these forms on file so that I wouldn't have to fill them out after every game i win, correct? this baseball season will mark the 4th set of forms i'll be kinko's-ing back to them.

Guys,
I apologize for the sloppiness on the emails. There are so many and I have been battling the flu trying to get the notifications out as soon as possible.
For multiply division winners please send a fax for each division won, please indicate the division won on the fax.
The faster you guys can get the faxes back to me the quicker I can get them to our accounting department. Once they have the information, then the prize fulfillment is in the home stretch.
I will try to keep you guys updated as to status of the prize process we are in going forward.

For the record, I recieved one email from TSN, but had 3 division winners. I emailed TSN and Larry promptly responded, telling me I needed a seperate tax form for each team ( I don't understand why, but that's their system- no big deal ). I'll do it gladly.
Some might not agree but I think the service we are getting is much improved and the down time on the site is minimal of late. Internet sites all have their gliches from time to time. A small price we pay for a well run fantasy game IMO.

Agree with Dave R, even though he is the Thousandaire here--winning Hoops and finishing strong as usual in bases. ;)
I won 2 divisions and haven't gotten an e-mail yet, but I'm sure it will be there soon. I can't say that for the former Small World.
Again, I'd like to make a request for the return of the top divisional prize like we had in hoops last year.

Question: As a Canadian, do I still need to fill out the IRS form?
"I will be subject to Federal, State, and Local income taxes"
"Accordingly, such information will subsequently be reported to me on Form 1099 (or its equivalent)"
These don't really seem to apply to me here... Just curious what other Canadians have done with the forms.

damn, my partner has to send 15 faxes in to them to claim her prizes, and since they only give her 14 days to do it, she has to send them while she is over here and being charged international fax rates for all 15 pieces of paper.
I want to know what the hell reason is there for three forms to be signed for all the prizes a person wins, that is ridiculous, it is the same company paying the same person.
Ok so sign each individual prize form and just one time sign the waiver and tax form. Doesn't that seem more logical.

beastiemiked, sorry for the delay in replying. Here's the body of the email Larry sent answering what I should do if I got both:
"It is possible that you may have received duplicate email notifications. There were some minor clerical errors that occurred with regards to the emails sent out. Please fax us the forms for the prize of the highest value. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused."
I then told him I'd already sent in both and he replied:
"If you have already sent forms it is redundant to send them again. We will sort them out from here. Thanks!"

If you haven't received your notification, I had multiple full & midseason emails by 10/7 along with 2 top 100 emails for both games (only 1 of which I could use).
I had to switch my email address during the season due to getting DSL, and TSN sent it to the proper one, so switching wasn't a problem for me at least.
I'd check the email address listed for the account in my registration and email Larry #31 at TSN if everything checks out on your end.
You've got 2 weeks to get the forms in. What's the start date on that clock? Who knows?

Guys:
Ultimate Baseball prizes are going out this week, PFT Baseball prizes are going out in early January (as far as I know).
This is consistent with our two-to-three month cycle.
As far as why prizes take so long -- the main reason is tax forms. Because we give out cash prizes, we need to secure these prizes against tax IDs (because it can be viewed as income), and the faxes back and forth between our users and our staff, our staff and our legal team, our legal team and our accountants, our accountants and our bills paid department -- well, you get the idea.
In short, this feels like a fairly big problem to me, and one that we need to look into improving next year. Sorry to take so long on this, thanks for your patience.

About the length... I guess maybe posting an article explaining why prizes take so long would be sufficient. If the process is a long one (and can't be sped up) then maybe explaining to everyone why its a long process would help them understand.

Erik B., starting a new thread about the new process is fine, well, and good, but what about baseball prizes? Were the prizes indeed mailed out the week of Dec. 23? If so, it's been 2 weeks now and I still have nothing from TSN in my mailbox and it appears as though nobody else does either. Any confirmation one way or another as to if the "check is in the mail?"

The Mrs. got a check for her winnings in the mail. It wasn't the correct amount as it didn't include the $20 for her top 100 finish in Midseason baseball.
I guess it's a moot point as the notification emails are destroyed. Her PC's HD failed and has been replaced since then and she doesn't remember what her WWR was anyway (I've slept since then).
The check arrived.

Checks did start going out the last week in December, and continued the first week in January. The time that it took to get you your checks is unacceptable to me, and we're now going through some fairly serious changes to process.

My check arrived, I got a $100 check, but I expected more. Won 2 divisions and a top 30 finish should entitle me to more. Not entirely sure what the top 30 prize is...but I know its more than $0!

I just received my check yesterday. I finished 69th in the world, which gave me $25, and I won my division ($50). They just lumped it together into one check for $75.

I got my $250 today. Two hundred and fifty big ones.. Two hundred and fifty dolarinos. I feel like Navin R. Johnson.
Anyways, this did include a $100 for a top 10 finish (12th, actually, but with duplicates/ineligibles top 10) and 3 division winners.

I got my check today. It was a combination of Top 100 and divisional prizes and was the corret amount.
For those of you who received a check for the wrong amount, did you send a separate claim for each prize? Or did you try and claim more than one on the same form? There were different forms for WWR and Divisional winnings. You were also supposed to send in separate forms for each division.

FS Top 100
FS Division win
MS Division win times 3
It did not include the big kahuna, the $500 from the midseason grand prize.
And yes, I sent so many faxes, I've lost count.

I got my baseball check yesterday, and like my better half's, it was missing the Midseason Top 50 prize money.
FYI - TSN, you can check my manager's profile under deepsnapper01 and see where you've updated it to show the Midseason Ultimate Baseball WWR#10.
I also don't understand why I identified all the divisions I won when you didn't ID them on the check register. What was your QC? How did you cross reference?
21 fax pages from me were too many it appears as 3 must have been lost. I told you to pick the pages UP!(#39)
I'm short $30. for my midseason finish and the Mrs. is $20. for her's. What happens now?

Good point deepsnapper, I was surprised that despite the fact that I claimed more than one divisional prize, they were indistinguishable (though listed indiviually) on the check stub. I expected them to be identified separately as opposed to listing "Division Award" multiple times.

Gang,
Just an FYI, if you are a multiple prize winner, you will be receiving multiple checks.
Some received separate checks while others did not. It was dependant on when your fax was received by our accounting department. Additionally, checks were batched by game with Ultimate Game prizes holding precedence.
I should have a bit more information later in the week.
I would like DMAN for informing me of the need to point this out.

I posted the following message on the TSN message board this morning also.
Any update on when the individual prizes for the Midseason Ultimate game will be sent out?
I've bought five 2003 teams and I haven't received my prize for 10th in the 2002 midseason ultimate baseball game.
TSN's last post referencing $ is TSNLarry's #138. Unfortunately, it's almost 3 weeks old.
