Subject: OT: Home Page / Bookmark / Saved User Name Help

  Posted by: The Left Wings - [1668298] Mon, Oct 14, 2002, 04:00

I'm just wondering what's going happened to setting one of these forums as my home page these days. In the last few years, I've been using either the hockey forum or the baseball forum as my homepage, so it automatically loads up whenever I turned on my browser. Since Friday, this hasn't been working the way it used to be. When I used Netscape 4.78, it gave me a 400 error. When I used Netscape 7, it moved me to the forum index page. Moreover, my user name hasn't been saved correctly. Usually it automatically fills the "Name" box with "The Left Wings". Now it only fills it with "The".

Anyone knows the problem?

Guru moved the forums to a new server, so maybe you're bookmarks got messed up? Maybe try resetting the Hockey/Baseball board as you're homepage?

You could also get rid of that POS Netscape, and save yourself many future headaches. :)

He moved the server but he said there should be no need to reset your bookmarks. Let him know that your old book mark is not working.

I've had sporadic problems the last few days with my bookmark on IE 5.5. I doubt it will continue.

The old bookmarks should automatically forward to the new URL. However, maybe your browser is balking at this, for some reason.

The reason I have not yet updated the old links is that, by going through the old link, your forum ID and handle should get transferred over. Once that has happened, you can use the new URL (just replace rotoguru3.com with rotoguru1.com).

If there is a problem transferring your handle over, this will probably happen everytime you access the old URL. If that's the case, you should probably reset your bookmarks so you don't go through the old server.

As far as I can tell, everything is working fine. But it would not surprise me that some browsers might have a hiccup here and there - esp. Netscape 7.

Ah. It looks like Netscape is causing problems with the transfer if the handle has a space in it. That explains the "The".

I should be able to cure that fairly quickly.

Maybe it will work OK in Netscape now.

Mike D - your problems may have been related to the space in your handle as well. It was working OK in MSIE 6, but perhaps not in 5.5.

I think it should be OK now, though. Let me know if that is not the case.

I had some troubles as well, but just manually updated the bookmark. Easy to do, and it works fine now.

Interesting. I'll try my 5.5 tonight at home. My (gasp) 4.7 here at work isn't transferring…..I know I know, hard to believe an IE 4 version is still being used. Not my call!

Thanks Guru. Netscape 7 works fine now. I'll just have to wait till the weekend to try Netscape 4.78.

You see, Rogue, there is no IE for Linux machines. Linux uses Netscape, Mozilla and a couple of other browsers.
