other than buying a VHS with a DVD burner in a combo unit, is there a way to do this?

No easy way that I know of.

If you have a FIreWire camera (mini DV), that has analog inputs,
and a FireWire card (PC) or any current Mac, you can use the
camera to be a bridge to input the VHS material. Then through
the use of Editing Software, you could burn a DVD.

With a Mac, this is fairly simple.

But any of these ways is far more time intesive than a VHS-
>DVD recorder (assuming that such a thing exists... I have my
own video editing suite and don't need such a device).

Of course, if it's not copyrighted material, you could take it to a
local production house for transfer.

Oh, and Tree, you gotta give props to Clemens. You
predicted that he would be a target/intimidated in the NL.

Not only is he the leagues top pitcher thus far, he's swinging a
good stick.

Face it, the dude is bad a$$.
