Subject: Kafenatid Question...

Anyone have a list of the options for time-settings for the draft manager?

Some guys I'm in a Yahoo league with are contemplating using it, and have settled on a date we want to wrap everything up by (3/23), but were wondering what settings are available for a "slow" draft. Thought we'd move at a leisurely pace for now, with the understanding that whatever remains to be finished on the 23rd will be done so that evening with a self-imposed clock that we'll keep track of manually.

I'm sure KKB could give more answers but I'll tell you what I've seen so far.

You can set the clock for any interval you want. (ie. a manager has 4hrs, 6hrs, whatever, to make his pick).

- You can set it to turn off at night from any time to anytime (off from 11pm-8am).

- You can turn it off on weekends. (off from Friday at 11pm-Mon 8am).

You can also change the settings at any time after the draft has started.

clv, as was mentioned above, you can set the clock to whatever interval you want (even, 3 hours, 14 minutes, if that's what you want) and you can also change that interval whenever you want throughout the draft.

In addition to this, there is a "Projected Finish" time for your draft so you have a decent idea of when your draft will finish. It usually always finishes a bit before the projected finish because people seem to move quicker towards the end, but you'll get a good sense of if you need to adjust the clock or not.

Should be all we needed to know, thanks. I posted the question to all members, will just have to get their input. Really like the idea that it's flexible...figure there aren't many picks many will need to do much thinking about over the first several rounds, so we could go ahead and have them out of the way, then as we approached the later rounds, the position battles SHOULD have somewhat "worked themselves out".

I understand WHY Yahoo has to have short clocks, etc., but it sure does lead to mistakes being made, particularly for those who haven't done all their homework. The flexibility sounds like it would fit perfectly...thanks.

KKB- I just shot you an email through Kafenatid.net On the Clock Fantasy Draft Manager. We are having a problem starting the draft for AA #3, League ID: 29.

Motley Crue and I are co-managing a team and we both registered for the draft. There are now 17 teams entered for a 16 team draft. Can you delete my registration from the draft so the commish can get it started? I am TBRaiders. Thanks.

Really sorry about this, Farn. It only makes sense that just one of us should have registered and used the same log-in. Maybe Motley Crue will let me pay the fee for using this service to make it up to everyone else in the league for the delay.

KKB - do you have a setting for non-snake drafts?

I'm in a keeper league, and we were talking about using your OTC thing...also, what about if draft picks have been traded?

For example, I may have 2 first round picks, while another manager has none...

J - both of those issues can be handled. Snake and non-snake are both available. And draft picks can be traded.

I've got another Kafenatid question:
Where are all these draft peeks coming from?
I was in 1 draft on Kafenatid (gurukeepers). I assume I was able to do a draft peek on RIBC to help out Matt S.
But I suddenly have draft peek access to:
ACS-sls office league??? I have no idea
Gold Member 2005??? I have no idea
Old Dirty Bastard Memorial League
Political Baseball 2005
RIBC - 2005
RIBC AA Sally
RIBC AA #2
RIBC AA#3

The first 3 I have no idea who those leagues are. I at least know what the Political League is (assuming its this one).

How does that work?

Also, is it possible to view drafts from prior years?

You can peek into any "public" draft (that is, any draft where the commish allows non-members to look at the draft results).

FYI, "ACS-sls office league" is my local office fantasy league I have with co-workers. We are using Kaffenatid this season. There is an option that allows it to be available for draft peek.

Khahan, "Draft Peeks" are available for any draft that has allowed their draft to be public. It's basically a way of "peeking" into how other leagues are drafting. The access isn't at the manager/user level, but rather at the draft/league level.

The reason all of these came up suddenly is because I've had about 5 draft/league signups over the last 3-4 days.

OK, next question then: Is there is a way to customize your draft peek page?

For example, if I don't really want to know whats going on in Gold Member 2005, can I remove it from my list?

Can I order the list however I want?
I can imagine at Kafenatid catches on and more and more drafts are put out there, this page could be very cumbersome.

Khahan, there is no way to customize this page at the moment and I'm not sure I plan on changing it at this point in time. It's basically just a Public Access page (you don't even have to be logged in or a part of a draft to view/use it), so making it customizable takes away some of that Public Access. I'll think about it, but the current answer would be that it's going to remain the way it is right now.

I have a question/suggestion. Is there or have you thought about a message forum associated with On The Clock for the prupose of discussing the draft as it happens?

I am very impressed with On The Clock. My one (unsolicited) recommendation for an enhancement would be for the system to come up with a way for the people drafting to enter a queue for a specific pick directly into the On the Clock somehow. Then when that pick comes up, instead of someone else being able to enter that pick, the system can do it for them from this queue. I realize that there is quite a bit of overhead to doing this and you probably want to keep the per-league cost nominal, but I figured I'd enter a wish list.

What Guru said.

The "problem" with On the Clock is that it always allows you the option to override the "STOP sign." This is because I want On the Clock to be flexible. For instance, there is a league drafting right now that will be drafting prospects that are not listed in Yahoo. How do I handle that with automatic picks? Short of having a list of every single player (including minor leaguers) with every single team at every single eligible position (which is different in different leagues), I don't see much of a way of implementing auto-picking. And I'm not nearly close enough to making enough money with On the Clock to quit my day job and devote my time to creating such a list, nor implementing the programming needed to take on such a task.

What it all boils down to is that I want flexibility in the program and right now I don't see a way of keeping the program flexible while also allowing auto-picking. This is why I created Designated Pickers and Queue Management, which allow someone to say, "Hey, if there's a run on closers, take A, B, C, then D. Otherwise, take E, F, G, then H." That's not easily done with an auto-picking system.

KKB, the ability to take guys not in Yahoo makes sense. Would there be a way to fill in the boxes (kind of like what you have now when you draft your guy) and then have the system just take whatever is in that box and make it your pick when the time is right? So that way it doesn't matter if the player is in the Yahoo system. All that matters is that somebody's name is in the box and able to be moved into the draft.

Farn, it sounds good, but what if that particular player is taken? I suppose the system could just reject it and give the player the clock, but then that creates an issue of a manager thinking a player was going to be selected and then them not being selected and then that manager may miss a pick because of not being available, etc.

The answer from there is that the manager could provide a supplement queue, but the system already has that, so there's no real advantage over what's already there.

would there be a way to have more than 1 box you could enter players to? So if the first guy is taken the system rejects it and takes whoever the next guy is that hasn't been taken?

Farn, but then what if that guy's taken? Then the next guy, then the next guy, then the next guy? At some point, I either limit the number of players you can enter, or create a way to enter any number you want. The point is that it still always goes back to flexibility and the most flexibility is created by allowing managers to simply type up a queue and send it to any of their Designated Pickers.

Honestly, I don't see how inputting a number of players is easier than just typing up the same info and sending it to a group of pre-determined people. I'm not trying to put down the idea, but I just have heard of or come up with a way of implementing an auto-pick that a) maintains flexibility, b) is FAR better than the current queue system, and c) isn't going to take me a year to implement and I'll need all those before I even start working on it.

Khahan, I realized I didn't fully answer your question(s) in #12. You can see drafts you have previously participated in (in the On the Clock home page), but not other drafts, whether they were public or not. That may be changed in the future, but that's the way it is for now.

When I am logged into my league's draft and click on view all picks, I cannot click on Position or Team to sort all the players. If I leave my league draft and go into draft peek, there is a link to click and sort by team or position.

Just curious if that was intentional or just something that you were unaware of? It's not a big deal because I can go through the draft peek to sort them, but it would be nice if I didn't have to.

KKB- I noticed when using OTC that the browser updates every 20 seconds or so (it looks like it's reloading/refreshing the ads.)

When it does, it resets the On-the-Clock clock back to the last reload/refresh, so it doesn't show me an accurate reading of how long someone has been up or if they've picked and we've moved on from them. If I hit F5 or the "regular" refresh button, it updates correctly.

It's not a huge deal, but I kept the draft waiting the other day because it looked like my turn was still four picks away. Then I noticed the glitch, hit F5, and had been on the clock for over an hour.

Is it a problem on my end? If so, can someone tell me how to tell my browser (IE 7.0.57-blah, blah, blah) to not do this?

It hasn't been doing that for me. It sounds like your browser is routinely pulling the page from your cache, rather than from the server.

In Internet Explorer, you can set that in Internet Options=>General and then click the "settings" button under browsing history. Mine is set to automatic, but if that doesn't work, select "every time I visit the page".

I don't see a similar setting for Firefox (although it may be there, too.)

Regardless, the reload always works fine for me in either browser.

KKB

I believe this has been proposed before and am not sure of the programming involved but the only major drawback (at least in my eyes) of the software is that when the draft is stopped managers cannot access their teams, ques or draft grids.

Is it possible to simply shut down the fields where you enter a players name if the draft is stopped rather than locking out the whole league?

(note I'm not talking about a draft pause onweekends type of thing but when the admin actually stops the draft).

[38-40], I believe Guru has it correct, but I can compensate for that. I'll try to get something worked up and implemented soon. Sorry for the issue.

[41], I think my brain may be failing me because I don't recall that one (it's probably even on my web site!). Anyhow, I do like the idea and will think about how to implement it. It should be possible.
