I've never played in the RIBC leagues and would like to. What is the bottom rung of the competition and how does one apply?

AA is the lowest(entry) level. I will be commishing one of the AA leagues as I cant seem to finish higher than 10th in this format. rrrr.

BUT, invitations for RIBC and AAA need to go out and be accepted. Then we will know who is available to fill AA leagues.

Hopefully I'll qualify for the AAA league this year. IIRC several Managers who finished ahead of me abandoned their teams for long stretches, something not befitting the standards of RIBC, I imagine.

Agree. MITH had a rough go of it last year. Chuck, whoever he is, will probably never play in an ribc league again. And disappointingly, CanEHdian Pride abandoned his team and it actually qualified for the majors.

But, if you need some help getting things organized, Guru, shoot me an email. Be glad to help you with set up or help handle some of the pre-season organization.

My participation in the RIBC, is up in the air. I am planning a trip to Nepal for most of the month of March to do a 3 week trek. If so, I will not have internet access like I did last year, and will not be able to draft my team. I will know by about the 21st-22nd of Feb. If the political conditions continue to destabilize in Nepal, however, I'll go somewhere else and will be able to figure something out once again...

I'll throw my name in the hat again this year. I finished 8th in AA league #3 last season. I doubt that puts me any better than AA this year. I agree, for having checked all season, it was frustrating to see people who gave up ahaed of you. I consoled myself with the fact I had Prior, Halladay, Delgado, Garret Anderson and Maggs all on my team, and they all missed significant stretches. It could be that, or the fact I traded up to draft Sammy Sosa...

Either way, count me in.

I have sent out (email) invitations to RIBC qualifiers for this season. Those include the top 6 from last year's RIBC, the top 6 from last year's AAA, and the winner of each AA league. Based on post 39, it looks like I will have to add at least one more name, but I'm waiting to hear from the rest of the invitees before deciding who else to invite.

I'm leaning toward having two AAA leagues this year, rather than just one. Those qualifying for the AAA leagues would be:
1. All non-returning RIBC teams (those finishing 7-16)
2. Last year's AAA teams ranked 7-12
3. Last year's AA teams ranked 2-6

Again, it is likely that at least one of those AAA qualifiers will get moved up this year, which will open up a slot in AAA. In addition, it's likely that some AAA qualifiers will opt not to play this year, which again opens up more slots.

So, here is the sequence of events:
1. I will wait until I get 16 commitments for the RIBC. These will be handled via email.

2. Once the RIBC slots are filled, I will post a list of the AAA qualifiers, as well as a waiting list. A thread will be set up to organize the AAA leagues. I will also need two volunteers to Commish those two leagues.

3. Bandos has already started a AA sign-up thread, which is fine. If you sign up for a AA league and then have a chance to move up, that's fine. We will need a commissioner for each AA league as well.

I spent a lot of time thinking about it... and I'll still submit a team to the RIBC. It'll be hard for me to keep as close and eye on the team as in previous years... but the grouping of managers that I see their lead me to think it's going to be some fun competition nonetheless.

I thought that my Rotoguru hockey team this year would never recover from a missed draft (online), due to a previous commitment than ran conflict... yet their still sitting in a very competitive 2nd place out of 10.

Thanks for the encouragement to play BH...

On a side note, is their anybody here who is interested in joining a keeper league with prospects. In-season rules are basically the same as the RIBC's. I posted a rough draft of a league constitution in the thread titled "Keeper League" that was originally posted by Hubble. Anybody who would like to join please post in that thread or e-mail me.

I'm in too, I will commish one of the AAA's if others didn't have their hearts set on it.

I am gonna post the top 40 or so remaining teams, then after any opt out or get called up we should be able to fill 2 leagues.

Down from RIBC (9): MattS, Slackjawed, Darkside, BMD, Peter N, Species, Youngroman, Ref, RFS

7-12 AAA (6): League Dumbass, Caper, LAD, Tosh, Chuck, Filthy

2-6 AA's (15): R9, baseballislife, uptown bombers, taax, coldwater, treasonists, s R, ksoze, tommyd, wild oak, da bomb, cobwebs, rev, piccolos, midwest

13-16 AAA (4): Khahan, MITH, Blackbeard, Goatlocker

7-8 AA's (6): nerf, rand, philsphan, just lurking, gunit, slumpbusters.

My thought is that we can probably start filling up a first AAA with any that are interested and aren't waiting for a potential RIBC opening. Any thoughts??

I haven't heard from Eh in a long time. Not sure how much you care, but he totally stopped managing his AAA team in mid-July last year, and got very lucky to finish in the top 6. He's a good guy, but he obviously doesn't seem to care very much about the RIBC initiative.

That said, I have no problem whatsoever if you allow "The League Dumbass" to take his place. He finished one slot behind Eh in AAA, and has proven to be an active and competitive Gurupie for many years.

I was jus skimming through last year's AAA thread. It appears that Chuck was frequently cited for inactivity in the 2nd half. He still managed to finish in 11th place, which would tentatively qualify him to remain in AAA this year. But could those who were closer to the situation help advise me on the appropriateness of that (without even knowing whether he is even interested this year).

Ditto for any of the AA leagues. Do any of the managers finishing in the upper half (see post 54) raise concerns over inactivity or otherwise inappropriate behavior that should make their potential ascension to AAA questionable?

Both years I have been in this RIBC format, there have always been a few managers who dissapear for a period of time (including during the draft). In all the cases, they have come back with sincere apologies and almost every time, an acceptable explanations.

I know that there are always times when fantasy takes a back seat. But I hope everyone that would commit to any of the RIBC leagues, can at least remember that, if it is not too much of an inconvenience, to just let their league mates know that their attention may be rightly so elsewhere for a while. It just stinks when we are left in the dark.

From guru's original outline for 2 AAA's:

will play (15): darkside, peter n, species, youngroman, loki, tosh, filthy, r9, andrew, uptown, taxman, ksoze, dabomb, cobwebs, rev.

Agree with JeffG in post 81. I can't possibly begin to understand what Chuck went through, but I do wish he had been a little more communicative, especially during the draft.

On another note, I would certainly love to have The League Dumbass up in the majors. After all, if he hadn't traded me Giambi, I might not be up there myself...

Blackbeard was me by the way and I'm pretty sure I'm in AA-signed up for it-but will play wherever.

I'll be out of town for a few days to attend my uncle's funeral. I just wanted to check in. Currently I'm in Bandos AA league, but I'll take the call up to AAA if a spot opens up. At the very latest I'll be back online Sunday. Thanks to everyone involved for all of the work. Setting these leagues up is no small task. Everyone appreciates it.

chris is scared of me and blue hen doesn't know what he's talking about.

Things are finely settling down for me and I predict a much more focused fantasy season. Since last December I've gotten engaged, switched to my 3rd job and bought and moved into a new place. I think I'm ready to take it to the next level this year.

I've left the decision w/ Guru but I think I'm primed for a good finish this year.

If I'm asked to play AAA, can do.
Am signed up right now for AA with Bandos.

Somebody just let me know.

Email is sure way to make sure I see it.

I'm playing too, looks like my chances of being back in the majors are very slim, so AAA it is.

Is there going to be any plan to try to seperate some of the managers who did equally well last year with in the AAA leagues. For instance, if the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place managers from each AA league are all in one league and the 5th and 6th place from each league are all in the other league, it could be much easier to make it to the RIBC in the second league then the other.

Just a thought, its up to the Guru, but from what he said I see something like this.

In one league:

From last years RIBC: 9,11,13,15 place teams
From last years AAA: 8,10,12, place teams
From last years AAs: 2nd from 2nd league, 3rd from 3rd league, 4th from 1st league, 5th from 2nd league, 6th from 3rd league, 3rd from 1st league, 5th from 3rd league, 6th from 1st league and one more.

2nd league:

From last years RIBC: 8,10,12,14,16 place teams
From last years AAA: 7,9,11 place teams
From last years AAs: 2nd from 1st league, 3rd from 2nd league, 4th from the 3rd league, 5th from first league, 6th from 2nd league, 2nd from 3rd league, 4th from 2nd league and one more.

I guess the other 2, and any replacement managers would come from the other 10 that Filthy listed.

Any thoughts?

I now have commitments from all 16 RIBC invitees. No one declined, including CEHP, who adequately explained his situation last year and said he is committed to see it through this year.

Here is the list:

I'll set up an RIBC thread shortly to begin preseason discussion.

If there are two AAA qualifiers (see post 54) who volunteer to commish the two leagues, I'd suggest that they start a league thread and start the sign-up process.

The first 30 listed are immediately qualified. I'd suggest that the 7th place finishers in the AA leagues (there are 4, due to a tie in one league) should have first priority for the last two spots and any other open spots, followed by the two 8th place AA finishers. If we need more names after that, we'll figure out a pecking order.

If you need to break a tie for the last spot(s), then I'll leave it to the league commish to figure it out. Either a coin flip or "first come first served" are acceptable.

OK, so, "the first 30 are immediately qualified" for RIBC AAA leagues are:

Down from RIBC (9): MattS, Slackjawed, Darkside, BMD, Peter N, Species, Youngroman, Ref, RFS

7-12 AAA (6): League Dumbass, Caper, LAD, Tosh, Chuck, Filthy

2-6 AA's (15): R9, baseballislife, uptown bombers, taax, coldwater, treasonists, s R, ksoze, tommyd, wild oak, da bomb, cobwebs, rev, piccolos, midwest

Then post 83 Filthy summarized who had expressed interest in playing:

From guru's original outline for 2 AAA's:

will play (20): darkside, peter n, species, youngroman, loki, tosh, filthy, r9, andrew, uptown, taxman, ksoze, dabomb, cobwebs, rev, slackjawed, bmd, coldwater, treasonists, wild oak (aka Trevor Sharpe).

waiting on (8): matt s, ref, rfs, J, caper, s r, tommyd, piccolos.

Filthy, if you want to Commish the 1st AAA, start a thread and let's roll!

No. Basically the above is summarizing any level of interest noted by those managers posting in this thread. For example, Matt S. might be iffy:

Tue, Feb 07, 2006, 00:15 My participation in the RIBC, is up in the air.

I think more importantly, you guys have to come up with clever names for the two AAA leagues. Mudcats and Sally in AA may be tough to beat ;)

Done. But in real baseball the Sally League (South Atlantic League, or SAL) is an A-ball league - so it looks pretty weak to me! ;-)

I jumped the gun a bit. In Filthy's post noting 28 invitees, I think he already removed midwest and Chuck. With rfs officially out, we have 3 spots for 4 7th place AA'ers, those being: Philsfan, JL, Nerfherders and Rand.

I won't speak for him, but Ref was pretty down on RIBC last year. He might decide to pass. As it stands now, we have 3 spots and 4 candidates, pending verification from others we are waiting on:

waiting on (6): matt s, ref, J, caper, s r, tommyd.

I've emailed Ref - should hear back tonight. Matt S is going to see the Dali Lama or something, but said he would check in around Feb 21st. I left a note in another thread for J. No idea how to get a hold of caper, s r or tommyd.

Actually, YES. Brain fart in post 107.

We've got 21 'confirmed' invitees from this thread: darkside, peter n, species, youngroman, loki, tosh, filthy, r9, andrew, uptown, taxman, ksoze, dabomb, cobwebs, rev, slackjawed, bmd, coldwater, treasonists, wild oak (aka Trevor Sharpe), piccolos

We have 6 people we're waiting on.

That's 27. We need 32.

So, I'm sure Guru won't mind me declaring that the 4 7th place AA finishers are hereby invited to AAA (as outlined in post 96): Rand, Nerfherders, Philsphan and JL. Feel free to sign up for the PCL, or we do need a Commish for the 2nd AAA league (which I'd recommend we call the International League after the real AAA league).

That leaves 1 spot open as well as six players we are awaiting confirmation of whether they are playing. 8th place finishers, stand by.

Guru - might I recommend any additional spots be reserved for the 4 last place AAA'ers? I'd rather keep someone who had already earned a AAA spot than someone who finished in the bottom half of last year's AA - but that's just one opinion.

Species - that's OK, as long as the bottom AAA teams didn't quit partway through the season.
