Well, the monthly contest has sure made a difference in the top 100. Me thinks that the value of the adjusted standings is more minimal though I will run them after 10 am to reflect the current IP usage anyhow.
I am beginning to think Cliff has the right idea. Whenever I really research a guy, I seem to be wrong (like sitting Holliday and his 0'fer, or sitting Lackey against SEA) though I have been right as well. Maybe just lock and load for a few days?! |

Locking and loading gave me Vlad's big nite. Still need to go back and look at the last week, but will see what is really happening. Trying to do the changes around the Monday / Thurs games off. Saves having to be at every single freeze.
Had bought Brad Penny early, now just not sure whether or not I want to go with him today or not.
Will think about it for a bit.

NY/NY and BOS/ATL expecting some precip tonight.
No idea how bad it will be. Weather.com has it pretty bad in BOS.

I see that the GP counts are still not working properly. I got charged with a game at SS yesterday from Reyes, who didn't play.
As of this morning, I now have four position slots showing incorrect GP counts. Three of the four are in my favor, though.

We know that there are contenders outside the top 100, especially now that so many teams have maxed out innings going for May prizes. Check out the Drifters at number 19 in the adjusted standings. He is at 4750 -4/-7. That is a good gauge for those outside the top 100 right now.
What an awful week for me so far.

If you're using 7.25/g and 4.8/ip, then I believe I'm in 3rd place with 5163 adjusted points. My raw data is 4642.52 and -9/-95 (assuming that's accurate) if anyone wants to check my math. I'm at #115 in the unadjusted standings. If you use more conservative adjustments (say 7/g and 4.5/ip) then I drop to 4th or 5th overall.

I'm really struggling w/ RP's.
I've only notched 2 saves over the course of the last 7 days - 1 of them from Papelbon yesterday.
Also, i've held Helton for 5 straight games in my utility spot, mustering a mighty -12 points. It's going to be tough to release him and watch him go off against KC this weekend, but it's too valuable of a roster spot to bog down w/ a negative average over a week.

I was looking at just how bad ARod has been.
I've used him 9 times this month for a total of 4.28points. TOTAL!
My 3B slot as a whole has gotten me just 27.56 (thats 17 days) And 25.15 of that came from David Wright on May 14!
I suck!

Thanks for the updated standings. I am running for a May prize and am surpised that I have not taken a huge hit in the adjusted rankings. My suspicion is that there are lots of teams outside of the overall 100 who would jump into the top 25 and top 50 of the adjusted list.

Bandos, Thanks for the update.
Just decided to go away from players in the NY/Bos games.
Really trying to sit things for the weekend and leave them alone. Only sell today will be tonite to move Brad Penny. And I'm still not sure I want to start him. Need to think about it some more.

Currently 108, but 20 in the adjusted standings for me. I can only guess that 20 would really be more like 40 knowing there are more temas like my own out there.

Considering how horrible I have been (except for saves in the 1st week) this month, I'm quite pleased to still be strong in the adjusted standings.
Hey mrbig - FYI - I emailed RotoHog and if you were to be in a prize-winning position, you don't have to tank because they told me that the top prize would go to the next highest ranking team. So when you are 2nd in the standings behind me in September, don't worrry, as your 2nd place prize will indeed go to the next eligible team! ;-)

Hypothetical situation: Mrbig hasn't confirmed or denied this yet (maybe because I haven't asked directly), but I may have referred him (he's in my league, and about half the people in the league used my referral code). He can't win the prize. If I'm first late in the season, and he's second, do I tank? Seems like I would get $10K more if he comes in ahead of me.

I don't know that I used a referral code because I actually heard of RH from multiple sources. If I did use a code, it was probably from a buddy of mine that runs an NL-only league since I am sure he is the first place I heard about RH from.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Species;-) I was actually hoping to have the opportunity to tank so I would have an excuse and could just "pretend" that I won. Now you've ruined it!!!
I'm planning on going with Penny (thought about Young), Weaver, Haren, and Bedard this weekend. Not your typical studs, but I like the way these guys have been pitching and their matchups. I'll probably be disappointed with Bedard, like I have with the rest of my starts against Washington. But eventually the odds should even out, right? Right!!?

mrbig, I keep thinking the same thoughts about Washington, but so far no joy.
Right now I own both Penny and Capuano. I have Penny and Myers in SP slots for now. Just not sure whether I will go with Penny or Capuano. Still thinking about it. So far, I have been pretty lucky with picking the right Second or Third Level Studs.

Species - Just wanted to confirm...they told you that all prizes would move down one spot if mrbig finishes in the money? Or just that 2nd place finishing would win the grand prize if he comes in first? Because a week ago they told me they hand't decided yet, but were leaning towards giving the $100k to the next highest finisher...they didn't say anything about the rest of the prizes.

And I needed it, since I also picked up Doug Davis and Braden Looper!

Well that hurt. Penny killed me. 8.62 total points between 9 hitters, 2 relievers, and Penny. At least I had to saves to keep me from a negative day.
Have fun at the top Species, hopefully its a short stay:-)

Just came by to see if big had posted. Was wondering what happened. Species has indeed reclaimed the top spot, at least by my numbers (I prefer 7/hitter, 4.5/ip)

I was smart enough to change my mind and not go with Penny.
Yeh, Right.
I got Cupacinnoed instead. Thank goodness for Myers to ease a little of that pain.
Still killed a great hitter day. Ended up at 77.09 when I should have been well over 100.
Oh well, just need to think more with Pitcher choices. And I knew better, that is the hard part.

Everyone is going to get hammered with SP occasionally. Honestly, this was the first time I had big negatives so I guess it was coming. I've been pretty mediocre picking SP so far. Not a lot of outstanding starts, but not too many stinkers either. Getting lots of those OK starts against the Nationals and Royals. I think I'm about ready to start going with Santana every week.

OK, thought it was time to take another look at where I am. And this is cumulative.
SP = 5.50 Points/inning RP = 15.66 Points/inning Total P = 8.23 Points/inning
Hitters = 5.33 Points/game
Hittters are getting better, but still killing me. Very, very happy on the pitching side though.

Woo hoo! Finally a decent SP performance from Haren. He dominated tonight before giving up that 2 run HR.....but I'll still take it.

Pops, Think about Paps or King Felix. Probably the best two options. Or Germano if you really want to go out on a limb.

After some thought and research, this is how pitching breaks down for me today:
SP Jonathan Papelbon SP Felix Hernandez RP Al Reyes RP J.J. Putz P Randy Johnson P Francisco Rodriguez
Bedard looking like a monster though 2, doh!

When is the time to buy the studs off tomorrow? Like, are they bottomed out now, or will they still go down after 10 tonite and tomorrow morning? Just trying to catch a bottom on a few of the guys I know I want back...

Re: 35
You've already missed the bottom on the guys who play tomorrow.
Generally, on the top players, the bottom for the day happens within 20-60 mins. after their freeze time.
Well, Bedard finishes with 55, and as of now it looks like that freggin clock error is going to cost me 70-80 pts with the way Felix is pitching.

Had Bedard today. Baez needs to be cut or something, but can't complain about the results. Three 50+ efforts from my SP this weekend with Haren, Weaver, and Bedard.

Pops-- Not talking about the players who play tomorrow. Talking about the players who are OFF tomorrow.
As a partial answer, these prices have gone down (a bit) since I asked, but not by much:
Utley from 55.70-->54.99 Magglio from 43.53-->42.82 Vlad from 65.57-->64.86

Chuck, If you have the money, tomorrow morning should be close to bottom. If not, just buy tomorrow nite at 8:00 West Coast time when the money unfreezes.
That usually is the bottom or close. I don't think they'll go up enough tomorrow during the day to hurt waiting. I don't necessarilly have the money to hold a lot of players, so will reset my lineup tonite at 8 for tomorrow and then make sells at freeze time tomorrow for those I'm replacing at 8 tomorrow nite for Tues, Weds. Probably no sells Tues unless I have an SP to move.

Re 38:
I think 39 is spot on. If you have the money, tomorrow morning will mean you catch nearly all of the upside. I somewhat disagree that players won't go up during the day tomorrow, I think you'll see a few guys tack on $3-$5 tomorrow before the nightly wave of buying.
------------------
I emailed RH about my clock issues today. I was going to chalk it up as manual error after Bedard, but the exact same thing happened with K-Rod! I replaced him w/ Wags and that looks like it's going to get me nowhere - similar to the forced Bedard -> Felix move.
RH replied, the following is a quote from their response.
"You sold Bedard at 10:24:59 AM according to our logs."
1 second, OUCH! They didn't dig up the K-Rod sale, but i'm assuming it was the exact same thing.
Also, appaently, i'm going to have to synch up w/ the atomic clock (again), b/c RH tells me they do it every day to keep things on the level.
A 70 point lesson learned the hard way - i'll stop being greedy about sells.
In other Annihilator roster news Teahen, held throughout the weekend, was dropped at the last minute for Sheffield. Another case of Annihilators vs. the law of averages - I don't need to tell you which side is undeafeated.

Hi Guys--I've been lurking for a little while, but thought I might jump in with a tip for Pops about how NOT to get caught selling early (happened to me a couple times...)
Just do a practice sell at any point when your computer clock turns over, even the minute before actual lock time. When the confirmation window pops up, check the countdown clock in the upper right corner for official Rotohog time, and see how many seconds you're off. Then cancel out of the sale instead of confirming. Odds are you're within the 10 second countdown period, and can adjust your confirmation click for the real (non-practice) sale until you're safely past lock time. Occasionally, I've found I'm more than 10 seconds fast and simply do a silent "1 One Thousand," "2 One Thousand," etc. until I know I'm safe. More of an art than a science, I know, but I'm not losing money any more and I haven't sold early in weeks.
By the way, I've already learned SOOOO much from you guys, and will probably hang around the rest of the season. Hope I'm not violating any unwritten "no girls allowed" rule. :-)

CBS Sportsline does not even have tomorrow's game listed on their schedule for tomorrow:

bachsmom - public forum, enjoy!
Pops - I use the method described by bachsmom as well. Click the sell button to see exactly what time RotoHog has. If it's within 5 seconds, I just count it down with an extra second or two added on. Your price is FROZEN so an extra second or two won't hurt.....just don't wait TOO long, because I've been caught not confirming fast enough and it says I'm out of time.
So I click sell a lot, and if I'm early I just click "back" (not cancel - takes too long to load), and click sell again to get a new time.

I'll echo what Species said. I do a test sell withith the last minute to gauge the time. I click the Back button and wait it out using myu windows clock. This works very well.

The off days seem to be the best money making days lately. Picking up Monday playing studs as early as Saturday has made me some decent gains so far. It seems a lot of peeps are only looking one day ahead. Now I just have to figure out how to pick a SP that doesn't cancel out my hitting points. lol
PS. For anyone taking holidays, Its tough to walk away from this for a week at a time. I left a stud lineup in and dropped 50 spots. Hard to determine exactly tho, with so many going for monthly prize.

am also a long time looker 1st time poster. What I do is before a sale is do an atomic update of my PC clock before sales. It's dead on after a reset with Rotohoags clock. Currently in 143rd place with + 15 and -97. and a proud owner of promised to be shipped someday T- Shirt. Thank God they don't give T- Shirts for monthly prize. I think I will try for a monthly prize latter after all the hotshots DQ for the year. Love the board. Here's looking at ya
