Has anyone else noticed that they are missing points from Friday's Met-Tiger game? Points from that game don't show up on my weekly or monthly totals.

Wow, surprised I'm still a hair away from 1st. I only had 99.08 pts combined on saturday and sunday while burning through 23 IP. Guess some other folks made equally poor decisions with their pitching!

I'm finally starting to figure out my points per IP for SP's & RP's (by hand - ugh). points per game for each position is next. I will post them this week as soon as I am done. couple questions to make sure my numbers are based on the same thinkg yours all are.

are the "7" and the "+4.75" at the top of the adjusted standings what you are using for hitting points per game & SP innings for the position usage adjustment ?

and secondly, I assume you are only using SP numbers from true starters, and not from Paps, Gregg, etc. ?? including them in your RP numbers ?

thanks

Just received this from RH:

Hi Ukula,

The Week 3 standings are not final as we will be doing some points corrections, like from last Friday’s games as you mentioned. We will be correcting some mistakes from our stats provider and will make an announcement when that has been completed. We appreciate your feedback and your patience.

Thanks,

The RotoHog Team

Re: #6

yes mrbig, some others (like me) made some equally poor decisions on pitching over the weekend. I had about 80 points combined for friday & saturday.

can anyone answer my questions on post #9 ?

and lastly, anyone know why ryan howard is down over $6 today ?

donk44, lots of people are selling him :)

Why are they selling him? I don't know. I sold him because he was down a $1 at the time. It does seem to be a pattern for him. People buy in to get $$$ and sell the next morning.

LOL at "lots of people are selling him".

thought maybe he got hurt again, or was scheduled for a day off, but couldn't find any news like that. anyway, thanks for the response (and the laugh)

Thank you Bandos.

I will post some points per game & points per IP numbers this week, as soon as I get done tallying everything. wish I knew how to set up spreadsheets, cuz it sure takes a while doing it by hand. but I'm curious how I match up at various positions, etc., so I'll do it now while I have the time to.

I was looking through the closers I've used in June so far and I'm wondering how firmly Brad Hennessey has his job. In his 3 outings since he took over (I'm pretty sure i've had him since he took over) in 3 outings, he done this: 3 innings, 1 loss, 0 saves, 1K, 6H, 3ER. Not pretty! I'm more concerned with him on my regular non-rotohog team, but still. Using closers not named Papshmere in those SP slots is nice.

Gregg had been pretty good up until last night.

I had taken a look at closers again the other day through the 6th of June.

These are just some of my observations.
These guys are in order as most points year to date.

Cordero
5-4 to 5-9 a save everyday
Fewest points were 7.50
Two 24.35 point days.
5-10 to 5-16 no points
5-17 save
5-18 to 5-19 no saves
5-20 save
5-21 to 5-27 no saves
5-28 to 6-5 6 saves in 9 days(9 games)

Hoffman
5-20 to 5-27 5 saves in 8 days (7 games)
5-29 to 6-3 1 save in 6 games
6-5 to 6-6 back to back saves

Jenks
Not going to break it down, but the gist of it is 6 saves in the last 22 games.
Had to have had a lot before then

And it goes on and on.
I generally will go with a closer for anywhere from 3 to 6 or 7 days depending on the schedule and how often I think he might have a chance of getting into a game.
There truely is not set way to do this.
You are going to have good streaks and bad streaks.
I have had days with positive points from all 6.
I have had days with negative points from 3 or 4 of 6.
I haven't looked at my numbers lately, but overall have been doing good with RPs.

I'll be starting Wright today as well, but because ARod doesn't even play. I bought ARod back last night figuring he would be OUT at some point before tomorrow's game. I don't think you can afford not to be playing him right now.

I'm forgoing Arod tomorrow because Webb has been on a roll. Maybe I'm a fool for it, but there has to be a better 3b match-up then Arod agains Webb for my $$.

Glad I stuck with Howard despite early $$ losses. Unfortunate that I wasn't around for the freeze to avoid additional losses! Down about $40 on the day after missing most of the freezes.

I was tempted to go with Zambrano today given how poorly Houston has played this year. Wish I would have gone with my gut instead of the stats.

I must have lost my mind to play borowski - he is horrible. he must have the dirt on someone to have that job. I am taking an oath tonight to NEVER play him again, even if cleveland is the only game on the schedule.

I obviously need to pay more attention. I started Putz not realizing he wouldn't pitch today. Too bad Sizemore didn't go deep to make them pay!

Only played VMart, Howard, Wright and Suzuki in the field today (considered a bunch of others).

Dempster neutralizes Borowski. Nothing for Jenks.

Still have hopes for Hennesey, Heilman, and Wagner later today. Perhaps El Duque will struggle setting up a Heilman win and Wagner save-- thanks to an 9th inning home run by Wright. Hey, I can dream...

I hope nobody started Morris. He was due for an implosion. Thankfully I benched him in G20 and RIBC.

As far as starters, I didn't get much from my hitters(VMart, Sizemore, Soriano and Utley) Pitching side is better though as I avoided Borowski and have recorded saves from Alfonseca and Dempster. Accardo, Wagner, Hennessey and Marcum(don't ask ;-)) have all just started.

Borowski even killed me in Pick the Loser. I really don't like that guy.

I went with a full slate of hitters. I debated going light, but had enough hitters I liked without reaching at any position.

I am down about $30 on the day. I was around for the early freeze and still lost $16. I missed the late freeze because I was at the little league field with my 8 year old watching a game so I'll gladly accept those losses.

Bad news - I still only have $850.
More bad news - I'm at -6 points for today.
Good news - I've got both Accardo & Hennessey still alive and have only used 1G and 1IP.

hennessey is about as good as borowski (need I say more), which is why morris was left in to complete the game. he is just a random middle reliever type that happened to be in the right place at the right time to get annointed the "closer". but the giants have very little faith in him.

that being said, I played him today given the limited options.

Anytime. I tracked for a bit in April. I was lazy in May and just played without paying attention to the breakdowns. I have been hot in June (until yesterday!) so I decided to track it.

I agree that there are several good pitchers pitching today, but I just can't convince myself to trust any of them enough to use the innings. I had Maine earlier, but sold him. I may buy him back. The other mitigating factor is my son has a game tonight and I don't feel like losing the money on the early freeze pitchers especially since I'm not all that confident they will pitch up to their potential.

I'm going to take a beating $$$-wise tonight. I have almost exclusively early start players. The only guy I will be able to get out of at freeze is Wagner. I'm leaving a couple OF spots open so that's 7 hitter + 5 pitcher spots (1 starter). Want to start a pool on how much I lose between now and the time I return from my son's game?

I'm at ~$1063 right now. I'll let you know how much I lose.

Just because Peavy might be a near-lock for a win doesn't mean he's a great option. I mean, if he pitches like he did last time, but gets the win, he's still not as good of an option as I would optimally choose. Just saying, its not like TB has a weak offense.

Re: 82 That's interesting. Right after I postd I saw his price at $89.97 which struck me as odd. That seems to indicate that he received 2 buys after the $89.77 barrier.

2 SP for me (though I may end up with only 1).

I swear I will never figure out the trading patterns in this game. Utley doesn't even play today, but is up $4.46 on the day.

The Utley increase doesn't surprised me (I bought him). Get him while he's below $70!

Generally, I agree that the trading patterns are a little harder to figure out these days then early on. This in itself isn't entirely surprising.

Once one system becomes obvious and most people are using it, then some people start trying to beat the system by changing their strategy. This more effective strategy is slowly adopted by others until it becomes the new status quo, prompting another change in strategy. I think we've had so many changes in strategy, we're to the point where different managers are doing different things (and some have enough $$ that they aren't paying much attention), generally making things more difficult to predict.

The one constant seems to be picking up a good SP 3-4 days before his start to make $$. Once you get to the day of the start, some guys go up while others go down, and this seems to be very hard to predict.

The up-down day-of pattern I've noticed is one of extremes.

High-dollar guys dip in the morning as moneymakers take the over night gains and then bail because they don't intend to use them anyway. Most of these guys will sneak back to break-even for the day as gametime approaches then crash at lock.

Cheap ($25 and under) guys see morning gains and hold steady through the day with a slight uptick just before the freeze. These guys' freeze downside isn't near as large, even percentage-wise, as their high dollar counterparts.

I haven't watched the hitters that closely yet, but I imagine in a case like Utley's he had a large number of sells at yesterday's freeze followed by morning buy-backs at the reduced price. It's been established that getting someone's name on the front page as an early mover "chums the water" for both buys and sells.

I see the above mentioned trading patterns. It's not that there aren't any. I just wouldn't have predicted Utley taking off so early on a day he doesn't even play. To me it stands to reason that it's a lot of money to tie up on a day a guy doesn't even play. I suppose the pattern has bene established with pitchers (tieing up $70+ for guys like Peavy over the course of several days that they don't play).

I'm not so ingorant that I don't cash in. I was just surprised.

[91] - not necessarily a bug or a change in policy.

The only player who we have seen top out at $90 was ARod. Maybe the max price is not the same constant for every player. Pujols was initially priced higher than ARod ($53 vs. $48), so the max price may be higher for him.

BTW, Pujols is now up to an offered price of 90.80, so his price is presumably creeping upward while he is OUT. There is no way to know where it may top out - or if it will top out.

Stl Cards - hey I just realized that the entire top 10 in the Celebrity leagues get autographed Ozzie baseballs! That's SWEET! I'm sorry I can't let you get the congratulatory call, but a signed ball should be good for you ;-)

.......and yeah, it's probably prudent to seriously consider an anti-Weaver strategy. I have Soriano, and so far, so good. If ARod, Pujols and others didn't have such good matchups I probably would have taken Lee as well.

I'd been thinking about dumping Beckett all afternoon, but ended up sticking with him. Glad to hear I have company.

My pitching choices have worked out pretty well lately, so I was due for one of these.

Should have gone to Stanford. Forget 1st or even second tier pitchers, we're talking division 3.

Re: #107

Guru should have warned us that he had Beckett and was due for one of these.

Pettitte, for instance, looked like a good matchup, but just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on those.

thank goodness they finally pulled the plug on Beckett. RH shows -31.31, though I think it's "only" -28.31 (gave up 10 hits, but RH is showing 11).

now we just need a big sox rally to save the -6.5 for the loss.

I guess my differentiation in Germano and no Beckett worked real well today :)

And Peavy yesterday.
Guess I now stay away from SPs for awhile ;)

I'm feeling real sarcastic today. Great run support for Santana, way to go MN.

Count me among the Beckett holders. I went with Santana as well so at this point it's pretty much a wash. At least Beckett only wasted 5 IP on his debacle.

Woo hoo! Wickman blew it in the 9th so Santana didn't get the loss.

Niiice. A little late game redemption: Morneau saves himself from a negative game for me. Pujols also came through late.

I only went with 5 hitters today and came out allright.

There's going to be a TON of opportunity for differentiation today. I'll have 3 SP and I'm guessing that 2 that I don't have will be even more popular picks. Plenty outside of those 5 who would be reasonable choices too. Should be interesting.

There are 9 SPs going to day that could be picked by people to start.
Some have what should be fairly good chances and some could be in trouble.
Really guess it depends on if you want to burn up innings potentially, or if you feel like waiting.
Wasn't going to go with any SPs, but now I'm toying with a couple after all.

There are 3 matchups that I really like based on how teams have performed against the Opposing Starters over the last 15 days.

Hmmm, just need to decide.
