Players I see for sure:

Tommy Lasorda, Tug McGraw, Dave Parker, Bruce Sutter, Garry Templeton.

I also think that's Mike Schmidt in the front row.

And NYM # 12 is John Stearns.

And Bill Madlock behind Gary Templeton.

BH, are you saying that Padre in the middle Gary Templeton

If it is, then he was never on the Padres at the same time Sutcliffe was on the Dodgers, meaning that top left guy would be Sutcliffe.

You have to understand bluehen. He does things like this to laugh at us.

First, let's identify the picture.

Toral

It looks more like Buckner than Sutcliffe. The caption said this was a "1976 tour of Japan." Buckner was traded from the Dodgers to the Cubs after the 1976 season, so I'll call the guy on the left Buckner.

Toral, well we can laugh at him now then. He was wrong on two guys.

I am guessing this is an NL all-star team that went to play some games in Japan.

Anywhere from 1982-1984

The key right now is the Padre. If in fact it is Garry Templeton, then the picture is dated from 1982-1984.

If its Ozzie Smith, than it could be older, but no older than 1978.

Yeah, that is definitely Bert Blyleven.

So that means that is Ozzie Smith in the Padre uniform, and that means the picture is from 1978, 1979, or 1980.

More accurately, 1979... there was a tour of Japan by the NL All Stars, after which a few AL All-Stars joined the team for two more games. Which explains why this is almost exclusively NL players. (I guess Lopez didn't have anything better to do.)

Mets 18 is Joel "Two Timing" Youngblood (based on uni-number).

Left of him is Gary Mathews.

The Phillie in the center reminds me of Tug McGraw. Either that or its Bruce Jenner moonlighting in baseball.

The Phillie to the right of that looks like the Bull, but I didn't think he had a beard until much later.

Front row (kneeling) right to left:
Larry, Moe, Curly, Shemp and Joe

2nd row (standing)right to left
Greg Brady, Peter Brady, Bobby Brady, Mike Brady, Keith Partridge, Danny Partridge, Herman Munster,

1/2 row (kneeling in front of Herman Munster- Dodgers 2 jersey): Grampa Munster

3rd row (standing all Pirates, right to left)
DAvey Jones(#45), Captain Jack Sparrow (black shoulders, yellow shirt w/ the 'C'on the chest), Blackbeard

Back Row (standing right to left):
Gomez Adams, Fester Adams, Lurch (in suit and tie), Pugsley Adams, Davey Jones (cause of much friction on the team as both are on the Pirates), Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, John, Paul, Ringo and George

See, that wasn't so hard.

That's Dick Ruthven, who was traded back to the Phillies for Gene Garber. The civilian next to George Foster in the back row is NL publicity director Blake Cullen. The Padre kneeling to the right of Lasorda is Roger Craig. The big guy in the left rear could be Kirk Gibson. That's Blyleven partially concealed next to Candelaria. I think the big guy next to Candy is Jim Bibby. The blocked Expo probably is Gary Carter.

The guy in the top left looks like Eckersley. However...
The cap looks more like an Indians cap than a Red Sox cap, and Eck was on Cleveland from '75-'77 before moving to Boston.

(Actually, the cap logo look more like this:

But Boston caps have always had a "B" logo - unless this was some special cap.)

Here are Eckersley baseball cards for '76, '77, and '78 (taken in '75, 76', and '77):

He looks too young on those cards to be the guy in the upper left (particularly the moustache), so I'm guessing it's either an older Eckersley (after the Cleveland era) with the alternate Sox logo, or else it's an Eckersley look-alike.

Great picture.

This is the first time I've seen this but this was my hay day of baseball. I recognize many of the people involved.

Just educated guess. Was going to say it was the '79 all star game since LaSorda would have been the manager, but it obviously isn't. You have an AL player there. The NL was dominant at that time, but only one AL player? Also it must be a Japanese tour as they are in a Japanese ballpark.

The guy kneeling in front of LaSorda is the Dodgers trainer at the time, Bill Bueller.

I am not sure who else hasn't been named...

Here is a 1980 Eckersley card (presumably taken in 1979.)

The face looks pretty good, but the cap logo doesn't match. Still, the alternate Red Sox logo does seem to fit.

Joel Youngblood only played on the Mets from 77-82, so hat's the window now. If That's an Indianas hat, Eck only played for the Indians from 75-77.

It looks like a Cubs hat to me which means it would be Buckner. This would fit the timeframe (Buckner played on the Cubs from 1977-1984) and the fact that it's a majority of National League players.

...In 1979, three seasons into what would become his 19-year tenure as manager of the Dodgers, Lasorda led a National League All-Star squad on a postseason tour of Japan... source

MLB in Japan history
1979 - The NL All-Stars were 4-2-1 against the AL, then a combined US team went 1-1 vs. Japanese competition.

Still looking for box scores and rosters.

Lopez joined the Tigers in '79.

'79 wsa the eyar that everyone loved those ugly rings on their hats. As you can see, some have rings and some don't with the same team.

MBJ--you've got it. That's Kingman!

This is definitely 1979. Had it right the first time.

[86] I was joking. I knew Eckersley began his career as a starter. My comment was that he was apparently both starting and closing his own games in 1978-79.

Kingman looks like the best non-Eckersley fit. He was on the NL All Star team in both 1979 and 1980.

1980 Kingman card:

Apparently I can a little bit.

That building across the street says YMCA. The scoreboard sign says Coke.Another sign is an advertisement for Dunlop. Can't really tell what those other signs say. ;)

Any player still not identified?

I think the suit behind Matthews and Tanner is Lee Macphail...could not find a good pic of him from that era but this pic certainly resembles his son Andy but this would have been before Andy's time.

Thats what I was suggesting in post 57, just wasn't too sure on the beard. I know he had it later in his career, just couldn't find any "that era" photos of it.

Gary Carter had a perm. The black afro sticking out of the Expo hat is probably Ellis Valentine. MBJ with that call.
