I'm in a fairly un-standard league and have a question about my keepers. With Carlos Quentin going to the DL in the next day or so I'll have 2 definite keepers on my DL.
It's an 11 team, 10 player keeper league. The categories are: Hitting: Hits, Batting Average, Home Runs, Walks, OPS, Runs, RBI, SB Pitching: BAA, WHIP, ERA, Ks, Wins, Saves, Holds, CGs
My team: C- A.J. Pierzynski 1B- Adrian Gonzalez 2B- Jose Lopez 3B- Casey Blake SS- Michael Young LF- Chris Dickerson CF- Alexei Ramirez RF- Hunter Pence UTIL- James Loney UTIL- Brad Hawpe SP- Armando Galarraga SP- Ricky Nolasco SP- Empty P- Chad Qualls P- Jose Valverde P- Brandon Morrow RP- Brian Wilson RP- Brad Lidge Bench- Scott Kazmir Bench- Gavin Floyd Bench- Edinson Volquez Bench- Manny Parra Bench- Gil Meche Bench- Carlos Quentin DL- Carlos Lee DL- John Maine
Right now I'm thinking my keepers are: Lee, Quentin, Gonzalez, Young, Ramirez, Loney, Hawpe, Kazmir, Floyd, Volquez
This year is lost now that 2 of my best 3 players are done for the season. We can only have 2 DL players so I'm wondering if I should drop Maine to pick up another SP for the remainder of the year. From the reports I'm hearing Quentin isn't going to come back after having surgery next Monday, so Lee and Quentin will remain on the DL for the rest of the season.
Any advice on if I should drop Maine, and if I am not keeping the right guys, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys! |

If all is lost, why not just drop Pierzynski? Or can you not even use a bench spot for a DL'd player?

Only looked at this for two seconds but I would drop Lee and keep Pence or a closer.

RE 1: Well you can use bench spots for non DL players, but there isn't much on the FA wire to go after.
RE 2: There's only 1 closer who is going to be kept in this league and it's K-Rod. I don't trust any of my closers after this season anyway. Also I think Carlos Lee helping me in 5 categories over a closer helping in 1 will help in the long run.

To add to the first part of #3: I've kinda drained the FA market, AJ, Quentin, Ramirez, Lopez, Blake, Hawpe, Galarraga, Nolesco, Floyd, Parra and Meche have all been FA acquisitions of mine. :)

I think you only keep Loney if you really expect his power to develop. Not a sure thing.
Dickerson had some good minor league numbers and has been ripping the cover off the ball (and stealing often). If he keeps this up the next 3 weeks I'd even consider keeping him, depending on where he shows up on next years cheat sheets.

Thanks for the help guys. The Sox have yet to put Quentin on the DL so I haven't had to make this decision yet. I'm not going to drop anyone or add anyone (unless it's a stud who was dropped or something extraordinary) and stay pat. I'm in 3rd place right now, but the first place team is 30 points up on my team, so catching him is unlikely at best. I'll probably come back to this thread and ask for your all's advise when the keeper deadline comes closer.
