Subject: Scoring question in Game 5

In Game 5 of the ALCS JD Drew's game winning hit bounced into the stands so it was a ground rule double but in the box score JD was only credited with a single. If JD hit it over the wall he would have been credited with a HR. Why the discrepancy?

He never went to 2B.

Like Robin Venturas "walk-off Grand Slam/Single" when he got mobbed at 1B.

My guess would have been that Drew never touched second base after his hit.

But actually I checked the rule. Rule 4.11 (c)

4.11 The score of a regulation game is the total runs scored by each team at the moment the game ends.

(c)If the home team scores the winning run in its half of the ninth inning (or it's half of an extra inning after a tie), the game ends IMMEDIATELY when the winning run is scored. EXCEPTION: If the last batter in a game hits a home run out of the playing field, the batter-runner and all runners on base are permitted to score, etc etc etc.

It's actually 10.06(f)

Basically it says the batter gets credit for as many bases as it takes for the runner to score the winning run as long as batter runs out the hit.
