Yes. Wouldn't surprise me if they are doing maintenance during the ASB, although I never saw that announced.

We are in the process of migrating servers. Unfortunately, this has taken longer than expected. Our technical staff is working diligently on resolving all issues. We hope to have everything back up and running soon. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I doubt if this is a busy time. I would think this would be a good time, with no games for 3 days. Certainly better than doing it on any game day.

Hey folks, I too was surprised and frustrated to see TSN site down today (games now up, forum still down) but thought I'd copy this message from "SSchrager -- Director of Programming and Product Development, Sporting News.com" from his blog:
Quote: "Hey All, Just a quick update. As you've noticed, the site has been going up an down all day. To make a long story short, this has to do with a lot of the upgrades we've been talking about. We just moved SN.com from 40 servers in Virginia to a new, state-of-the-art server farm here in Charlotte. This move is going to allow us to serve the site faster and handle a bunch of tech stuff that you don't want to hear about, right here in our backyard. Obviously this is a massive undertaking and there are lots of fires to put out. In the end this is anther "growing pain" that I deeply regret, but something we must do. We are working around the clock to make sure the downtime, inconveniences and problems are kept to a minimum. Thanx as always for your support and patience.
Shawn " Unquote
Isn't it reassuring when one with such a lofty position uses fun stuff like the 'alternate X' spelling of 'thanks'?
Thanks to Rotoguru for having an eye on the TSN stuff, it's needed.

I was unable to get onto the site during the day yesterday and today. I was able to get on the site last night from home. When I tried today, it said the site was down for routine maintainance and should be up this morning and to e-mail any urgent transactions to them and they would make sure they were recorded.

It's not just the game, it's the Sporting News MLB Scoreboard, the Fantasy Source, the whole shooting match.
My guess is the move of baseball over the weekend to different servers probably for football season didn't go so well after last night. Must've had a choke point.
Does anyone have the TSN email address for "emergency" trades? I'd appreciate it. I saved the $$ for Lee to Lincecum & don't want to skip him.

hills, maybe snapper is seeing what I'm seeing, which is that I've gotten some pages to load, but it takes 2 minutes to load each page. Just main SN, main Fantasy page, and even one time the forum page loaded once, but on none of these was i able to successfully log in.
So how do you think they'll handle about 25,000 escalation emails?

I'm picking up Lince today, but I don't even know how far I have to downgrade. Can't even remember which downgrade candidates I have. Luckily I do remember D Wright as a guy I've wanted to dump for weeks.

From tsn
Unfortunately, due to system problems, Salary Cap Baseball Challenge Season 2 had to be taken down indefinitely. We are honoring all escalation requests that were filled out correctly and sent by 7:15 eastern time. We realize this is disappointing, but it is vital in order to get the site stable for the rest of the season. The price update will still take place even if the game is not up. Because prices will be changing, we will not be taking escalation requests for tomorrow. We hope to resume trading at some point tomorrow. We sincerely apologize for this and are doing everything we can to correct it.

another TSN response, from moderator "bernieh" on his blog:
http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/bernieh/195290
and again SSchrager's blog has "updates":
http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/SSchrager/195157/
it's not good
"Our Director of Technology and Systems Administrator booked a last minute, early morning flight to Virginia this morning in order to recover all of the old hardware. The server that handles the baseball database that runs that game didn't react well to the upgrade. We tried for 24 hours to fix the problem remotely. When that didn't work, we decided to take drastic measures. As we speak, they are on the road, in a rented truck, driving back to Charlotte with 40 servers from Virginia. This way we can have all of the hardware here.
They got a later start, but they will be back tonight and will try and get the baseball server up ASAP. The plan is to have everything back up very early tomorrow, but as you can see, $#!+ happens.
We are moving heaven and earth to make this right. Stay tuned. I know the Fantasy guys are also working round the clock and have been posting updates."
Pathetic, if you ask me. A RENTED VAN?????

Interesting though, when I was able to see my Season 2 team page yesterday, I had 5 trades in a no trade league. Do you think the system blew up because they can't make a 5 into a 4 equal out? It's always the simple things that bite you in the butt.

They have a new GM each year at SN, it is a short-lived job. First it was Jeff G. a couple years ago, then kings33 lasted about a year, now Eric is in. Soon it will be Darnott!

Team pages are accessible for Ultimate, at least mine are, but the forums (of course!) are still offline. At this point one gets the sense that TSN is not planning on enabling the forums any time soon. Actually, not much to be gained (for them) if they do. They will be bashed unmercifully in the baseball forums the moment they come up, with a lot of people saying they are done with TSN forever. If that's the case, no need for them to risk the server load on people who won't be back. Not saying it's the smart thing to do, but I could see the reasoning...
Actually, Ultimate without the standard message board manipulation that goes on is quite a different game. I sort of wish they was a way to play it without the boards all the time. I'm sure someone like Kevin Correia, for example, would have never gone above 2% ownership if it wasn't for the message boards...

Ultimate has around 6000+ teams, with an average of 4-5 teams for each owner , so it is something like 1300-1500 Owners playing the game.
I do believe ( as an active TSN ultimate forum user) thar around 200-300 owners use the forum, so it is less than 15% owners...
I believe it is not enough to manipulate the market with trends that comes from the forum

PR Nightmare in 3, 2, 1...
I used to play a fully simulated soccer game online and, occasionally, they'd have some MAJOR issues. To me, they did two things right in EVERY instance.
1. They refunded all paying members an amount equal to the amount of downtime. So, if you paid $30/month and the service was down for 3 days (which happened), you got $3 credited to your account. Seems trivial, but the fact that it was done automatically and you didn't have to ask for it actually made me feel good about their customer service.
2. They CONSTANTLY added updates about what was going on. They explained the issues, what the plan was, and if things got messed up, they'd regroup and explain the new issues and new plan. They were smart about it and, on several occasions, I actually felt bad for them and wished I could help.
Maybe TSN could learn a few things...
