NYDN:Andy Pettitte prepared to announce retirement from New York Yankees Friday at Yankee Stadium
Andy Pettitte left the Bronx to be closer to home once before, but this time it finally appears his departure from the Yankees will be for good.
The five-time World Series champion phoned owner Hal Steinbrenner on Wednesday to officially inform the team of his intention to end his storied career. The decision ends a winter-long uncertainty, but leaves an undeniable hole in the Yanks' 2011 rotation. Sad day. Very rare quality gamer who will be remembered fondly for a long time. He probably has the best public image of any player tied to steriods.
