Subject: RIBC 2011: Regular Season Discussion

The season starts tomorrow. Make sure you have your starting lineups properly set.

I notice that as of this morning, Holt still has everyone on the bench. Maybe he's decided to spot us a head start this year?

As a Cards fan I hope it's neither. They'll probably let Franklin get crushed several more times before doing anything. That would suck. I'd rather see him get straightened out. Motte seems like the logical choice. He just hasn't pitched well since last season. I wouldn't even be surprised if they went with Bautista. LaRussa seems to have a deep mistrust of whippersnappers.

I noticed that yahoo has an Astrix for tied percentage stats this year. I am assuming it is taking the decimal another place or two as there aren't ties in these categories. Is this new?

Edinson Volquez has a 29.25 ERA in the first inning this season. His ERA is 1.93 in every inning after.

The Reds don't need a closer, they need an opener. I'd appreciate it as well.

In my indecision, I added and dropped him, so he didn't go on waivers. It's a good rule: to prevent a manager from picking up 5 people in a row and dropping them, with no intention of keeping them, and forcing them to waivers.

The pitching performances in the past week from guys on my roster (on my bench) give me hope, and lessen the need for starting pitching right now. Headley wasn't going to bring anything worthwhile anyway unless in a package, and I don't want to get rid of Longoria/Lind/Gordonopoulos/Helton.

With Sandoval on the shelf for a good bit of time. I'm browsing rosters to see who has an extra 3B or CI to trade and every team has similar issues--players on the DL.

I'm in need of a bat and have some pitching to offer in return.

yeah I have no depth at all, otherwise I'd check it out. 4 guys on the DL, two day-to-day, one recently returned from the DL, and one I had to cut loose to the FA pool due to going on the DL. The only good thing about it is that I don't have to make any lineup decisions.

I might be interested in dealing in a couple weeks or so.

If anyone needs an OF, I'll definitely be looking to move one at soon. I'll be overloaded there.

It it not formatted since I do not know how to do that, but here is the RIBC AAA PCL on Yahoo. You only need to pay attention to the first number which is total points. The rest are change, waiver and moves.

As you can see, my team (Ghostwood) stinks. My batters can't hit and my pitchers can't pitch. Aside from that, all is well.

went to check my lineup at about 11:30 central today and the Reds game already started. I had Bruce benched last night, so I missed out on his big game (2 hr). So pissed.

Very rarely do I not set a lineup the previous night, and very rarely does a game start before noon. This is bull crap.

I'm also wondering how I didn't notice A Avila was dropped. With Posada's antics I could have used him. Bad week.

OK, now you're just hoarding outfielders Holt! But I'm hoarding MI so do what you gotta do I guess haha.... Will trade involving MI, rather than pitching?

Thought I had a good chance at Tabata with the 4th priority. I was hoping the team with top priority would be tempted to save that, and saw that Holt was looking to move an outfielder, and then the 3rd priority was who dropped Tabata. My chances seemed promising. Nice pickup Holt.

Kenley Jansen's the consolation prize? Maybe getting foiled can benefit me.

As for trade potential, who needs Middle Infield help? My hoarding is starting to get out of hand. All shapes and sizes and potentials, I got it:

One more start at second for Allen Craig until he's eligible at Yahoo. Furcal finally returned. Kelly Johnson is maybe waking up? Aviles and Bartlett steal bases sometimes. Roberts and Barney might be for real?

Looking for CI/OF types. Not exactly keen to part with the speedier guys unless speed is coming back.

This a summary of players' RIBC pick in round 1 of the draft vs. their current Yahoo rank. I did not fare too badly with Cabrera, but some of the 1st rounders are doing miserably. It makes me think that in our type of draft the end of the draft is the place to be. Of course it could equalize over the remainder of the season.

NAME- RIBC PICK #-- CURRENT RANK

PUJOLS- 1-- 56
RAMIREZ- 2-- 178
CABRERA- 3-- 15
TULO- 4-- 74
VOTTO- 5-- 21
A. GONZALEZ- 6-- 6
C. GONZALEZ- 7-- 36
CRAWFORD- 8-- 235
LONGERIA- 9-- 776
HALLADAY- 10-- 12
CANO- 11-- 31
YOUKILIS- 12-- 72
BRAUN- 13-- 2
HAMILTON- 14-- 707

Glad to have learned my lesson early this season. Matt Joyce even cleared waivers, but dropped for 3 days and he had two 3-hit games. Lucky to even get the guy back.

Today saw two duds that didn't backfire on me though. It is probably a case of only noticing when it burns you, therefore thinking it happens a lot.

Murphy's Law is right.

I am confident that tonight's start was just a case of feeling backstabbed by me. Nothing serious. I wasn't gonna trade Halladay this year, but I have been looking for upgrades at CI and OBP for so long, this was too perfect.

Halladay will make me regret trading him, he always does. I think Cabrera is going to finish runner up in MVP to Jose Bautista though, so hopefully this one is a win-win.

Thanks for sending the offer. I was real close to accepting your initial offer but I can only gain 8 pts or so in saves and figured losing Holliday might cost me that many points. Very hard to say. When Bruce was on his tear earlier in the season he was one of the top players in the league. Hope it works out for both of us.

I'll have to watch my innings closer now. I was already over by 40 or so.

True Facts: Chris Davis's OBP at AAA (405) matches my team's slugging percentage (405), and his slugging percentage at AAA (824) exceeds my teams OPS (737). His OPS (1229) exceeds current eastern standard time (1041). Here's hoping he is lightning in a bottle.

It would make up for that fateful, homer decision I made many moons ago when I grabbed Jack Cust instead of Michael Morse off the waiver wire.

Heh, I fumbled Morse after having him on my roster, dropping him, then picking up Thome instead of following my gut and repicking up Morse after LaRoche went down for the season.

And I only wanted Thome for a one game matchup that I thought looked good, but bombed. Planned to grab Morse the next day.

Much like the draft, if you want somebody, don't delay.

Homer Bailey gave up 9 ERs and 12 hits in 4 innings against the Mets last night. My plan to climb in the standings by improving pitching took a major hit. I should learn by my past mistakes as Bailey hurt me last year also.

Looking to deal a starter for a firstbaseman or shortstop. Nothing lopsided.

Did you get my email Loki? Just curious as to whether the in-game message system works or not.

No I didn't. I think we can say that the in-game message system doesn't work.

Thnx for trading again. The previous message I sent you was just to say that I wasn't ignoring your offer. I sent out a few offers involving Kershaw and I was waiting to see if anyone wanted him before dealing another starter.

Holt-I see that you signed up for RIFC AAA #1. That is too bad. I will be in AAA #2 and was looking forward to finishing behind you in 3 leagues this year.

hahaaha - you might want to switch over to my league. I've been having a hard time in RIFC for two or three seasons now. It's an unforgiving format.

RIBC seems to get a little harder each year too. A few years ago it seemed there were always useful free agents available. Anymore, you can't wait for any news to come out. You have to be weeks ahead of the news.

That makes it difficult to recover from a bad draft in a league as deep as ours. In a 12 team league like Dirty Dozen a number of managers, excluding me, have made major climbs during the season with free agents. Re our trade, Wilson's last 2 starts have been his worst of 2011. I hope that is not an omen of the rest of his season.

No I was watching that game on TV. He was getting into trouble falling behind in counts. There was no velocity issue. He just wasn't hitting his spots. I read that he looked at tape and saw his mechanics were inconsistent. Hopefully will be straightened out by his next start.

Here's an article describing how he went through a similar stretch last season and worked it out. Ogando is the one that I expect the wheels to fall off of!

I could conceivably deal away any of my starters (Kennedy, Cain, Beachy, D. Hudson, Colon, Harang) for a bat. Most interested in either RBI or SB.

I'd probably rank my starters as listed above, so I'd want the most for Kennedy, and the least for Harang.

I really need a first baseman. The most likely deal is for me to trade an outfielder. It's the only place I have any depth right now. If anyone has a 1B they want to send packing then send me an offer or email me and I'll send an offer.

MBT-NY media is reporting that MLB is investigating reports that ARod has been playing in prohibited high stakes poker games and could face suspension. MLB's double standard.

That was quick. Mulling over a handfull of interesting offers aleady.

Prefer to move a bat. High interest in Sandoval. Gonna take an offer I can't refuse, but now that Lawie is finally up, he'll have 3B in addition to 2B eligibility early this week, so it could happen.

Wading thrugh each individual offer. If I accept one of your's Holt, it'll just be one. Through process of elimination, I'll begin sending out rejections and/or counter offers beginning today.

Looks like it's GO TIME and it appears several teams are in the market to try and prep for a stretch run.

C Carlos Ruiz was held out of the lineup because of a left testicle contusion. Ruiz was hit by a foul ball while behind the plate in the sixth inning of the Phillies' 3-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. "Hopefully in a day or so he'll be good to go," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said.

Testicle contusion.

Ramirez (shoulder), though still trying to return, may not be able to again this season, the Palm Beach Post reports.

omg. I can't believe I traded Kershaw for him. Worst trade ever. Didn't even get a single at bat.

This has been the most disappointing fantasy baseball season I've had in many years. Bombing out in this league as well as my long term keeper year. Just very, very frustrating.

holt-I like your pick up of Matt Moore. He probably will be called up in September and should help down the stretch. I picked him up earlier yesterday in our keeper league and should have thought about doing it in RIBC also.

MBT-I empathize. It took years to make it to RIBC, and it looks like I'll be back in AAA next year. I have made progress with my trades, but I think it will be too little too late.

The earliest reports (before the trade) on HanRam were pretty encouraging. I picked up and dropped a replacement for him twice before finally cutting bait.

Not a trade I'm proud of. I prefer something beneficial for both sides. Once they DL'ed him right after I accepted it, I wouldn't have minded if it got vetoed.

The deciding factor that caused me to pull the trigger was that he had absolutely nothing to do with getting my team where it is, so he was expendable.

James Shields for sale. Any deadline day deals?

Kenley Jansen finishes complete game, allowing 1 run, 6 baserunners, and striking out 22.

Or, more accurately, that's what I got out of him in his first 9 innings of work on my team. Excellent work, my friend.

This has been a great league. I don't understand what a team that drafted Morneau, Gordon Beckham, Brad Lidge and Jason Bay in its first 9 picks is doing in 3rd place, but there I am. Still not sure the crazy gains I made this month won't evaporate as mysteriously as they appeared, but it looks ever more certain by the day that I'll live to play again. Can't complain.

Wow, missed it by a hair.

Congrats to all qualifiers. Best league out there, and keeps getting tougher.

I think I regret referring this Graydog character.

Congrats to everyone really. Awesome league this year.
